Thinking of You

Hello Stamplings!

The whole country and prolly the whole world is watching as Hurricane Florence bears down on the East Coast with dire predictions that it will be the "storm of a lifetime!" I hope everyone who lives in the impacted area was able to evacuate to safety. I can't even imagine and my heart goes out to all who are dealing with the situation, including public service staff and first responders.

Here's a little card I made to let you know I'm thinking of you.
I had all my leaf stamps and dies out on my desk for this month's Twofer, so I used my NBUS "Bold Greenery" from MFT for this card, cut from a smooched alcoholic Yupo paper. The coloring of the card base and panels looks a little uneven in the photo because it's a beautiful matte cream paper from my stash that has a beautiful sheen. It doesn't photograph well, but it's like buttery leather to the touch and I wish I knew the name so I could find some more of it. The sentiment is from MFT's Lable Tape set. I'm entering this card in the MFT 2018 Card Design Super Star: Clean and Simple Genius!

~~~
And here we go from the sublime to the wicked! I don't make a lot of Halloweenie cards, but Hammy loved this cute "Witch Feet" stamp and die set from Hero Arts, so I had to get it. The stitched center oval from MFT is popped up with foam tape.
The drawings of these cool shoes and socks made me wonder, "What ever happened to knee socks?" Geez, I wore the heck out of knee socks in the winter to keep my legs warm under my jeans. I had them in every color. Do folks in winter climates still wear them? I never see them in adverts or in the stores. Funny how some things, even practical things, just go away.
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
Love the colours on the leaves; that is my favorite this time... We don't "do" haloween here, but I like the legs!! Hugs, Gerrina
Fabulous Leaf card Darnell. Every element looks perfect to me. Your witches booties are too darned cute. I like cute halloween not creepy halloween and this fits the bill.
It must be so frightening for people who live in the path of the hurricane, I have several blog friends in the area and can't stop thinking about them... my heart goes out to them too.... :(
Your 'Thinking of You' card is so pretty, I love the beautiful leaves. The witch legs are adorable, I want some shoes and socks like that now - it would certainly amuse the two or three children that we manage to see on Halloween... It is hard work eating all those leftover sweets....
And, yes I do still wear knee socks, but usually only when I wear my wellies! Hugs, Annie xxx
Hi Darnell, Loving both cards.
Can't imagine how people are coping in the path of the hurricane. Hope all the animals are taken to safety as well.
Hope you have a nice day. Sue
I hear the hurricane has been downgraded but it still must be scary. Your die cut fronds are so pretty too.
Love your witchy feet with their sketchy socks TFS at JUGS. I tend to wear ankle socks in the winter as my calves were always too defined after 6 years of hockey for the full length ones to stay up! Think they made a comeback in the Brittany 'schoolgirl' era, we couldn't wait to ditch them when we were at school though. ;)
I really hope, that hurricane will lost its power during its way to the earth. And all people can turn back to their not damaged homes.
I'm admiring your coloured leaves. Great card to tell someone you are thinking of him. The card with the witch shoes is fantastic. :-) Superb design and superb knee socks. You made me think about when it was the last time I saw knee socks in stores in my land... :-)
See you!
Hugs,
Sonja
Wonderful Thinking of You card Darnell - we prayed for your country and those in the path of the storm this evening.
That Hammy - he gets the blame for all sorts of things, plus you make him work on your masterpieces, and all he gets is some glitter on his fur... what a hard life he gets!
Blessings
I'm thinking of everyone too.... Your card is so lovely with that pocket of beautifully coloured leaves. I love that Halloween card ... what a super design! The inlaid oval looks amazing.. Going to have to pin this!
Have a good day!
Umm.. no pin button?
Oh my gosh, those leaves do make one beautiful card! I love how you added those colors - and the witches shoes and stylin' knee socks knocked my socks off! (pun intended) I never wore knee socks, but now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing them anymore?! Hmmm, maybe our legs got shorter in the past few generations or something? LOL
Praying for all the people in the path of Hurricane Florence. The last big damaging hurricane I went through here In Louisiana was Hurricane Katrina. We lost two cars, 29 trees and our whole fence was ripped up. Thank god our house was spared. Every tree that went down missed our house by inches. Love your cards especially the one with the witches feet
Have a great day!
Sorry I've been MIA for so long in commentland. I've been on a mission to find knee socks...hahahahahaha! I'm echoing your concern for the Eastern seaboard, and hope too, that everyone stays safe. Beautiful leafy card. That paper looks amazing behind the greenery. And such great witchy feets! Cool idea to use that oval and add the little webs for balance. Clever girl! Hope all is well with you. Bev
Hoping everyone is safe. Love the leaves on that card! Super cute Halloween card!
A pretty card and a cute card. Very nice. Love the colors on the leaves.
I actually have seen knee socks in the past few years. I think they call them boot socks now. I remember wearing the heck out of them, too. We weren't allowed to wear pants to school until 3rd grade was almost over. [Bunny]
Your witchy feet caught my attention at LIM before I even checked my email today. So cute and perfect for the challenge. I love your colorful leaves with the accompanying frame and sentiment labels. I too have been praying for those in the storm zone which includes two of my brothers and their families. One lost his vacation house in an earlier hurricane and now this one threatens it again. At least when he rebuilt he put his new river house up on stilts so the water can surge under. And this is inland. I can't imagine the damage along the coast.
Yes, this hurricane is one to be wary of! I'm thinking and praying for all in this storm's path but more than that I hope those who didn't evacuate use common sense and don't do anything foolish to put first responders and public service staff in harms way. It is indeed a very dire storm that needs to be taken seriously. Wow, this card is stunning Auntie! Your smooshed alcoholic Yupo paper leaves are stunning! Love the simple design of this card as well and that paper you used is just beautiful. Love the sentiment too. Then there is your witch feet card, how fun and cute is this one?!!! I love it! Yes, I remember knee highs well and don't know why they aren't worn anymore. Nope, no one wears them anymore and not even sure they can be bought anymore. Now here in the North, people wear "long johns", although the ladies long johns are called something prettier but for the life of me I can't remember what they are called! lol I don't wear them because I don't like all that stuff around my waist and they would make me too hot. lol At least tights are still in. I think. Who knows anymore. lol But I do miss the knee highs too! Hugs, Brenda
Two wonderful cards, Darnell! Your first leafy card is so pretty in those colours. Very kind of you to be thinking of those affected by the approaching hurricane. And good luck in MFT’s superstar challenge. Your second witchy feet card is super fun... fun subject, fun layout. That stamp set is adorable. I wish Halloween was big here. So good to see you joining us at Less is More. xx
Have a wonderful day!
Your Thinking of You card is filled with love and thoughtfulness my friend. I think we are all sending thoughts and prayers that all those in the eye of the storm have left the area.
Your 2nd card gives us smiles thinking of hammy wearing 2 pairs of witchy shoes. BTW the knee socks have turned into warm tights:-)
TFS both your wonderfully creative cards, Dolly. Hugs..Nancy
Talking of socks...yes I remember those long ones...still have some from along time ago..perhaps they never wear out so now they don't make them! xx
That is so very sweet that you made a card for the people going through this hurricane. I love the card with the bright leaves coming out of the square vase that is for the saying. I love knee socks and can still find them at The Bay
I love your gorgeous alcofrolic leaves Darnell in those pretty colours, and the design with them coming out of the sentiment pocket looks great, and as for the winkle pickers/witches boots...they are so cute and love the way you have coloured the socks, and also th spider webs, and cutting it with the stitched oval die makes a wonderful background. Believe it or not I wore white knee socks to school until I was about sixteen, and in the summer they were downgraded to ankle socks. Can you imagine any self respecting teenager wearing them now..lol. x
conil said...
Yes, this hurricane scares the heck out of me and I'm on the opposite coast. Can't even imagine the horror these people are going through. Just the anticipation would do me in...just want everyone to stay safe.
You card for the victims surely will catch MFT's eye...it really is lovely. I can see, also, that Less is More's challenge is going to be full of black/white/other color...the other color being predominantly, orange. That's what I did too, as you know.
What beautiful rainbow colored leaves! Such a cheerful card! Love, love, love the fun witch shoes and knee socks! I wore a lot of knee socks too. Now I wear "trouser socks". They aren't as heavy but they do stay up better.
Your AI leaves are gorgeous Dolly! Love the variety of colours on each leaf sprig. And those witches feet are so fun!
I wore knee socks when I was in elementary school. Not after that. I remember my mom taking 1/2" wide elastic cording and sewing the ends together to create a "garter" to hold them up. The good ol' days! :) Love, Lolly
Beautiful leaves, Darnell! I love how the colors are balanced throughout all the leaves in your design. I can see why Hammy was partial to those feet - so cute! You could even use the striped one as elf feet and maybe have them sticking out of a Christmas tree. I remember one day in the third grade, my mom had to come to school to pick me up from the nurse's office. Barbara Tulley sat with me to keep me company, and the first thing Mom said was, "Why can't you keep your knee socks up like Barbara?!" Ah, the things we remember...
Love the coloring you did on the leaves. And aren’t those witches feet the cutest....love! My Halloween cards are up on bloglovin. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs
Oh, those leaves! Gorgeous and infused with thoughtfulness and compassion for those in the path of the storm. You have such a wonderful heart. I have three vials of alcohol inks awaiting attention, along with a pad of Yupo paper. Need to find some playing time.
Now, those witch legs...as a huge Halloween fan, I'm crushing allll over them! I'd wear those socks in a minute, especially given it's snowing furiously here - just in time for the two races this weekend (grrrr...I'm sure it will melt by then, but the temperatures they will be chilly). The spider webs tickle my fancy, too! Such a treat to see you in the Just Us Girl gallery!
Two fabulous cards ..... love the leaves on the first one, the colours look amazing. I do love Halloween, but don't make that many cards. Your witches feet are so cute though ..... love the socks! Mine will be coming out soon .... I don't like cold feet! xx
Brilliant witchy feet ... just downright fun ... no surprise Hammy wanted this set! Knee socks ... not worn since I was a teenager ... unless we count skiing and hiking! LYAMYMA ... VS! Fabulous cards! Very touching and simple with the first, but I love the witch feet! So many possibilities. Yes you can still get knee socks here, mostly for kiddies (my girls wear them to school), but the teenagers find funky coloured ones to wear with the shortest of short skirts..... things never change! xx
Brenda in IN said...
That is a lovely, colorful card you made for them and a very kind idea. This is a monster storm that will leave so much destruction behind. I hope people will listen and evacuate. There is already so much water everywhere. Your boots and socks card is delightful. I still have knee socks that I do wear when it is bitter cold because my floors get so cold. I love how both of your cards are framed.
Well I never....knee socks! What a blast from the past! I used to love mine too. I'm also loving your two beautiful cards Darnell. The artsy look to those fantastic leaves on the first card is just beautiful. I'm totally with Hammy on the witch feet stamp set; it is awesome and you've used that pop of colour brilliantly. Thank you so much for sharing that one with us at Less is More xx
Such a fun second card and love those stamped witches feet x
Always wore knee high socks a a child and was OCD about having to have them both completely straight and in line! x
Great cards Darnell. I have been watching the progress of the storm on TV today, there appear to be several monsters about. I wear knee socks in my riding boots and welly boots in the winter to keep my toes toasty on frosty morning rides and walkies!! xx
Such beautiful leaves, and with your photograph and description I can almost feel the buttery smoothness of the paper. LOVE the Halloween card! Such fun to make. I'll probably make more than I send, but a girl's gotta have fun. Your card is such a creative use of the stamps. Once again, I'm not going to manage the Twofer challenge. We're leaving again on Sunday and busy busy all this week. I did start, but can't finish before we go. I have many stamping friends in the path of the hurricane and my heart goes out to them and all others who will suffer its effects. Oh, and BTW, I still sometimes wear knee socks in the winter.
Two gorgeous cards, Darnell ! I really love your leaves made with alcohol inks, those colours are so beautiful together ! And your socks cards is so fun. A perfect take on our challenge too ! That funny what you say about knee socks and so true. My daughter who is only 14 years old always ask me to buy knee socks (coloured one) but it is true, I cannot find knee socks for women (only the ones for skying !). Even normal socks, a little bite coloured and fun, are very difficult to find for women. It's not fashion ! But really in winter who cares about fashion inside the shoes ??
Before I forget, thanks so much for sharing and for playing along at Less is More !
Gorgeous cards! I really love the leafy one. I used to wear a lot of knee socks, too, but no more. I think you're right that they are no longer the fashion. Too bad because they certainly add a modicum of warmth--especially here in Minnesota in the winter.
Beautiful card for the MFT superstar competition Darnell and I wish you all the luck in the world! I wish I could make interesting smooshed yupo pieces. They make for fabulous cards when used with stunning dies!! I think I may invest in those greenery dies 🙈. And I have no idea what happened to knee high socks, we don’t see them over here either and boy do we need them during the winter! Hope all is well with you and the family, Im so behind on blogs, I am sorry but hope to do better. I’ve only made 3 Christmas cards by the way. Palpitations at the thought of that. Lisa xx
Gorgeous cards Darnell! I love the beautiful leaves on the first card and the way you have framed everything makes for a very classy design. The second card really makes me smile and the middle pair of boots looks just like a pair I wore in the 70s - minus the curled tip of course lol!
Hope you are well my friend - I'm chasing my tail as usual.
Your trio of leaves look beautiful framed in white! And your witch boots card is fun with the popped up oval!
That's a good question but I have no idea either why knee sock disappeared! I also wore them when I was a kid!
Wow!! That first card is just beautiful with the white background and those alcohol ink colored greenery dies. Those mixed colors make this card perfect for any time of year. As for knee socks, I had no idea the aren't in style anymore..how embarrassing! I pull mine out every winter and still wear them under my jeans. Does this mean that I'll have to learn how to knit when these finally wear out??
