Family is Forever!

Hello Stamplings,

I hope this finds you feeling chipper after a lovely weekend. There is nothing like the fresh laundry smell of a Monday morning with the promise of a clean slate laid out before you for the week. I can see some of you smiling and some of you gagging on your coffee because you're starting today with a visit to the dentist. Well, after that then, I hope you have a great week!

A while back I won over at Paru's Card Making Challenge and this month Paru is featuring each of the winners, as well as her featured Guest Designer, the very talented Tracey McNeely! As you will see on the challenge post, Paru shares with us that during August India celebrates the wonderful festival of Rakshabandhan to honor family and the special relationship that exists between brothers and sisters. Isn't that a fantastic idea?!

So I've made two cards to share, both celebrating that Family is Forever.

Onefer
I made the silhouette panel by combining two stamps. The overhanging tree and grass on the left is from SU. The children frolicking on the right by another group of trees is from Flourishes, called "Kids Play." The NBUS "family is forever" sediment is from Stamps of Life. I attached the panel to a card base of PTI pp. To make it more festive, I punched out a few sequints from the paper and attached them as a bit of blingaling.

Twofer
I went mono chrome all the way with this QACAS card. Besides using the same "Kids Play" stamp, I added a NBUS flock of birds from Lavinia Stamps and a "family" word die-cut from "My Creative Time" set. I am entering this card in Die Cut Divas and The Male Room.

~~~
Thank you, Paru, for this honor! If you would like to play along with this month's challenge, you can find the challenge details HERE.
Speaking of family, I want to let you know that Adam is almost halfway through with wearing his neck and chest brace. He is managing school with no problems. Now if the parents can just keep those two brothers from forgetting the situation and rough-housing like normal, all will be well!
Of course, I had to look up the origin of "rough-housing." It is an Americanism dating back to 1895. It is obviously formed from the words "rough" and "house." In this case rough means "to handle roughly, but with playful intent." House is tacked on because it referred to playing rough inside the house, as opposed to outdoors.
When rough-housing occurs, it is immediately followed by a parent yelling, "Take it outdoors!"
Now we know. I mean, we prolly could have figured that out for ourselves without Dr. Google's help, but now we can be sure of it.
~~~

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!

Good to hear things are going well for Adam, Darnell ... long may it continue (despite the rough-housing!). What wonderful cards ... the first is fun and playful with the bright pp and actual sequints ... awesome silhouette combining cause these all look as though they were meant to be together! Your second is warm and cosy in the soft kraft ... it's as though this family is being wrapped in warm sunshine! I'd be the one doing the handstand on both! Congratulations on being featured at Paru's! LYAMYMA! Big hugs & bisous, Anita :)

Your cards celebrating family are beautiful, Darnell. The first one with the combining of two stamps is remarkable. Looks like a single image, they go together so well. The second in kraft looks wonderful, too. So relieved to hear that the boys kind of forget the situation and play rough, like normal, I'm sure. Just as long as they don't create new issues, right? Thanks for the history on the word. Fascinating! Hope you have a nice start to your new week. :)

We should definitely have a "celebrate family" day here in the US Auntie! I love that idea and I am in love with your cards. I love silhouettes and of course make me really fall in love with your cards. Love how you use two silhouette stamps, you would have never know it! Both cards are fabulous! And you have reminded me about my "family" die that I have like yours from MCT. Haven't used it in a long time! I've been thinking about Adam and wondering how he was doing and making out with school. Glad to hear he is doing well! Boy's and their roughhousing, yep, with 6 of them, there was a lot of roughhousing in my house and it was told to take it outside as well. Thanks for the history behind it! Hope you are doing well too Auntie! Hugs, Brenda

Wonderful cards and wonderful sentiment. I so totally agree. We just got back from a great time spending time with our kids and grands celebrating our 50th anniversary.

Two fantastic cards today, both unique in design but both giving a clear message! I'm so glad to hear Adam is doing well and feeling well enough to rough-house with his brother - even though that's not a great idea just yet! I hope he continues on his road to a speedy and complete recovery. And how are you doing after your surgery? Hopefully it's smooth sailing for you as well! Isn't it miraculous how doctors can put our broken bodies back together again? We're all fortunate :) Stay well and take care! Hugs!

Family is everything to me and I love these cards. The children playing is so sweet and the bling makes it even more happy. To see them playing into the evening is cute. I'm happy Adam is doing so well. Rough-housing is built into boys from birth!

I love looking up words and learning the source of a word. I like both cards, but the mono card is stunning, lots of impact. And that's the one you submitted to Die Cut Divas, which I am so happy that you did. Good luck in the challenge and again, glad you joined us at Die Cut Divas.

Fabulous twofers Darnell, I love the silhouette image and the dotty paper looks great on the first, and how inventive to use the spots as sequins, and then the second with the circular die cut detail shows off the sweet frolicing children beautifully. I am so pleased to hear that Adam is doing so well with the brace. I must say I didn't think it would be possible for him to go to school as normal but it is good he isn't just sitting around and getting bored. x

I so appreciate you looking stuff up on Google for me. Saves me heaps of time. So glad that Adam is recovering successfully. Hopefully, further incidents won't be so alarming...ya know, like bruises and scraped knees.
Congratulations on your Guest Design spot. Your cards are certainly worthy of this Indian festival. That stamp with the children is a pure delight. Paru picked the right person for this GT assignment.

Congratulations on being a winner at the Paru Challenge, Dolly. Your Family cards are so creative and beautiful. I think Family is especially at the top of your list of thoughts after Adam's accident. Thank you so much for the update. Kids are amazing and it sounds like Adam has adjusted so well to his brace.

Loved reading the origin of rough-housing :-) I am not sure what is always more fun and creative...your cards or your post write ups:-) Love and Hugs...Nancy

I love to see different card versions using the same image. It’s so fun too see how many possibilities there are using the same image or supplies. I think both cards look fabulous, fun sequin paper and the second card looks great with all that Kraft paper.

I love this silhouette stamp of the kids frolicking outside! Outside is the best place to rough-house. Or is that rough-out? Congratulations on your win and your delightful family cards! I'm so glad that Adam is doing so well.

I am happy to hear that Adam is doing better. So hard to keep boys from "rough housing" though. Thank you for the ideation of where the word came from!!

Your cards are stunning!! I love the scene you created with all those different stamps on the first card. It is so lovely!! I really like simplicity of the second on that kraft. Beautiful design!!

I guess I'm missing out all around your house, Darnell. First your surgery and then Adam. I must keep up. I'm glad he's doing well. Your family cards are wonderful. I love the silhouette of the children playing and that stamp worked perfectly with the tree and grass on the first card.

Whew, I'm glad to hear that Adam is doing well and I do hope that he can avoid any kind of surgery. What a scare that must have been for him and for all the old folks! Wow, that silhouette stamp of the kiddos doing cartwheels on the lawn is so charming..I may need to get one for myself! There's just something about a simple design that captures the mood so perfectly. Great creative idea to die cut a few of the printed sequins to pretty up your stamped panel too.

Awesome family cards. Family really is forever, isn't it! I love that image of the cartwheeling kids. It reminds me when my four were small and simply "had" to leap everywhere they went. Oh for a little of that energy now.

The NBUS goes on forever, doesn't it? What a perfect combination the two silhouette stamps are on your first card. The frolicking is so life like. Love both! It sounds like Adam is making a good recovery, and so quickly! Kids are so resilient. I'm glad to hear this good news!

Love your stamped twofers - I have seen this silhouette before and almost - "almost" put it in my basket but....love it. My favorite is the mono - no reason just because. I am happy your grandson is doing ok getting around at school - kids just seem to adapt easier than adults in those situations. Great job.

How totally fabulous! Love your wild and free silhouette family, super interpretation of theme. Thanks for playing at The Male Room.

Both cards are so sweet and it shows how one can use one stamp and create a card that is more for girls while the other can be for boys. I can't help but think of my mom....my family is getting smaller now. I am glad your son is better and, yes no rough-housing! :)

What a great holiday! We should start celebrating it! Although I don't have a brother I have the most wonderful sister! Your cards are delightful! I would have never noticed that the first one is made out of two stamps, they work so well together! And your polka-sequined PP is fun (have you ever researched where the word polka dot comes from? Does it look like they are dancing the polka?)! Also love the monochromatic version!
Glad to hear that Adam is hanging in there and is able to go to school!

Wonderful to hear Adam is getting better and I love both your cards. The kraft version very eye catching. The interpretation of rough housing very appropriate I think, my sons my brothers I remember it well. My brothers were shaking taking it outside then breaking a limb or two. Always started in fun and ended in misery. I can home from work one night, walked in and said to Jay 'wheres dad?' 'With Aaron and Dale says he. I walk down the hall no-one around. Go back ' where are they'? 'Oh didnt dad call you? Aaron and Dale were munching around and Aaron 4 got his arm broken by Dale 12. How you might ask, well of course as all kids do Dale was on the ground legs in the air, Aaron perched on his feet then he flipped him!! Ahh the joys of boys :) Hugs Aileen

Both are fantastic for featuring family! The whimsical polka dots are such fun and the monochrome looks amazing. I'm just learning about Adam and am so glad it wasn't more severe. Thankfully he is making great progress with recovery and is able to continue with school. Of course, rough-housing isn't recommended but is a sure sign he is feeling better!
