Love and Baboons

Hello Createers!

I hope your week is going well!

We are over the crest of the week and whooshing downhill to the weekend! Whee! Here in America it is all about Super Bowl Frenzy, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area where the Big Event will take place on Sunday. I hope your favorite team wins, whichever one that is!

Here on the blog, I'm working hard with Hammy and The Hammettes to escalate Mt. NBUS. Today we are playing with hearts and balloons. Oh, did I say baboons in the title? Sorry if you got all becited about seeing baboons instead of balloons.

We'll start with love in honor of the season.
The NBUS dies on this card are the Stitched Jumbo Fishtail Banners from My Favorite Things and the Light Ray Heart from Simon Says Stamp. The stitched rectangle is from Lil' Inker and the love word is from Paper Smooches. A shiny cool card that a even a guy person would like.

Next, I wanted to use the balloon snippets that came from the corner die I used in my last post. I knew if I put them in my bits and boobs ~ oops, darn these ginfers ~ bobs schtuff (BABS), they would likely die of old age before I got back to them. So I made another shaker card, using another NBUS item.
Isn't that a fun design with the jar tilted to one side and the balloons and sequints escapading out the top? You're thinking I'm a genius, I'll bet, but the truth is the darn die moved during production. I was disgrunt led and reached for another piece of card stock and then I thought, well,  that's wasteful, so I just went with it like I meant for it to be that way. To make it even crazier, I stamped the stamps cattywampus, too!

If you look up the definition of cattywampus (spelled other ways), you will find the synonyms "askew" and "awry." It's like a gift from the dictionary gods where the defining words are just as silly-sounding and wonderful as the word you were looking up!

And, yes, I tend to overfill my shaker pockets just like I do my belly.

The jar is from Paper Smooches and the NBUS stamps are from the Smirthday set by Technique Tuesday.

I really ought to have learned by now not to read your posts while drinking tea . Gorgeous cards though, I love the die you used for the heart.
You must have a veritable LAKE of NBUS. One day I'm going to come over there and wallow in it! (Being hippo-like in proportions I am well qualified for wallowing)

I have never seen a sunray heart before and it looks a-ma-zing - so beautiful and of course I love the red and white together.

I did think the shaker jar was planned that way, after all, you would pick it up to shake it and it looks like you deliberately did that to create movement - very clever!! Big hugs, Annie xx

Great cards Darnell! Love the shine on the first and the heart die looks awesome! Fun shaker card, even if it is a little cattywampusy! Sometimes our "mistakes" make great cards!

Wow, both cards are fabulous but I love the sheen on the first card. So classy, Darnell! Ok, so I did come over here to see what the baboons were all about. The title of your post just made me laugh.

Tis a brilliant jar of tipsy baboons you have got there. Love it. I just adore that cattywampus word. I shall write it down on my list of letters to use for my challenges!!
Wonder wot colour a cattywampus butterfly is!!!!!!!!! Has anyone ever seen one?

Oh darn Darnell, I thought we were going on a safari. tehe Fab cards, especially the catyywampus one. What do you use to add height for your shaker? Double stick foam tape? Your shaky bits and boobs (bobs) don't seem to stick to the edges of the shaker. giggle tehe Hugs

Two fabulous cards Darnell, and I really love your silver and red creation with all the great stitched layers and the adorable SS heart die and then your jar full of BABS and the pretty baboons...oops! I mean balloons, floating about all over the place, and all on that super blue card. I have been feeling rather down since our son went back to Australia after a few weeks spent in the UK but your fun post has cheered me up today! x

Susanne Vargas said...

You could have fooled me with your askew jar! I would have totally believed you had planned it that way! Looks perfect with the balloons floating out of it! And your metallic love card is so cool!

designbydonna said...

The heart card is simple but stunning. But I really love the balloon shaker card. Great save on the kattywampus die cut. Before I read the rest of the post, I thought what a great effect, looking like the sequins and balloons are escaping the party in a jar. Just like you intended!

Happy Dance said...

Mmmmmm.....shiny. Like ravens and certain other creatures, I'm almost always captivated by shiny things. So it naturally follows that I'm totally smitten with your Valentine. LOVE that SSS heart die perfectly held by those fishy tail banners. Pretty sure the Mr. would love this, if it were for him....though if all the little hamsters haven't seen this, it could be for one of them as well. Very cool card! And I love your askewery shaker card! The wind is just blowing from the west to the east is all! Perfect when balloons are involved! Gorgeous blue, and what a perfect way to delve into Mt. Nebus! OH! And by the way, you ARE a genius. True story!!! Miss you. Bev

The wonky shaker jar rocks...quite literally actually! Love the blue and pink color combo! AWESOME heart card! Now that I see the SSS Light Ray heart in action I wish I would have bought it instead of the curly/swirly one that I ordered!

Hello Darnell,
each of your next card is better than the previous one. Beautiful graphics, and a better idea of the perfect selection of colors and materials. The first card is inspired outfit sports and I can see very clearly the relationship. In the second tab, set the die by chance, and I think that there are no accidents. This card has a movement, a moment grasped as the photograph. A jar is tilted, the balloons fly away ... Revelation.
hugs,
BozenA

Two super card Darnell. What beautiful dies you used on the heart card. I've not see either before and the card looks just like satin. Stunning.

I think my favourite is the second though. I love the smiley face on the balloon and I thought the shaker jar was meant to be that way. It certainly works well anyway. That was serendipitous! I love your new word cattywampus. I've just written that one down. Barbxx

And that ray heart ... how cool is that?? Is this Mister's V-Day card?? He will love it! Still haven't made one for Gord, but it's next on my list. xx

Is that shiny card a Valentine for your guy. It shines like a brand new motorcycle. Very impressive and powerful, just like a bike. Your second card makes me smile. Remembering how many times I've goofed with the old Big Shot. Think it's very responsible of you to use it as is and fill it with snippets. I'll bet the EPA sends you thank you notes.

Love both cards! The first one is fab with the gorgeous heart and I love the cattywampus second card. That is a fab word! I love the jar filled with sparkles and balloons! I am still looking for those baboons too though! xxx

I was so intrigued to see how you could link Love and Baboons together in your card making Darnell. However you definitely nailed the love and balloons with your two fantastic cards. That's a colour combo and the jumbo fishtail banners with the light ray heart make a very classy card.
I think the production malfunction of your second card actually turned out to be a stroke of luck as the jar looks perfectly placed at it's jaunty angle. Loving that cattywampus stamped stamp too. Your a genius! Hugs Lottie x

Cattywampus...love it! Added to my vocab list for the students (and is sure to generate, as most things do, eye-ball rolling). Speaking of baboons (well, I'm speaking of them): every time I hear or see said word, I'm reminded of my French Canadian uncle who, when his kids were pouting or sniveling about something, would proclaim they were 'making a baboon'. "Think" that in your best slightly French accent (baboooon); it's rather funny and actually, quite fitting. Anyway, I've devolved...degressed...Your heart/tag card is shimmery swoon-inducing; your jar, sequints and balloon card, wonderfully delightful. I happen to quite like 'askew'...because that's what I am...slightly askew...
