Love and Baboons

Hello Createers!

I hope your week is going well!

We are over the crest of the week and whooshing downhill to the weekend! Whee! Here in America it is all about Super Bowl Frenzy, especially in the San Francisco Bay Area where the Big Event will take place on Sunday. I hope your favorite team wins, whichever one that is!

Here on the blog, I'm working hard with Hammy and The Hammettes to escalate Mt. NBUS. Today we are playing with hearts and balloons. Oh, did I say baboons in the title? Sorry if you got all becited about seeing baboons instead of balloons.

We'll start with love in honor of the season.

The NBUS dies on this card are the Stitched Jumbo Fishtail Banners from My Favorite Things and the Light Ray Heart from Simon Says Stamp. The stitched rectangle is from Lil' Inker and the love word is from Paper Smooches. A shiny cool card that a even a guy person would like.

Next, I wanted to use the balloon snippets that came from the corner die I used in my last post. I knew if I put them in my bits and boobs ~ oops, darn these ginfers ~ bobs schtuff (BABS), they would likely die of old age before I got back to them. So I made another shaker card, using another NBUS item.

Isn't that a fun design with the jar tilted to one side and the balloons and sequints escapading out the top? You're thinking I'm a genius, I'll bet, but the truth is the darn die moved during production. I was disgrunt led and reached for another piece of card stock and then I thought, well,  that's wasteful, so I just went with it like I meant for it to be that way. To make it even crazier, I stamped the stamps cattywampus, too!

If you look up the definition of cattywampus (spelled other ways), you will find the synonyms "askew" and "awry." It's like a gift from the dictionary gods where the defining words are just as silly-sounding and wonderful as the word you were looking up!

And, yes, I tend to overfill my shaker pockets just like I do my belly.

The jar is from Paper Smooches and the NBUS stamps are from the Smirthday set by Technique Tuesday.

Time Rips, er, Flies ~ NBUS #132

Hi There!

I am still in love with all things Shari Carroll emanating from the Online Card Class I am taking. She did this incredible emboss resist watercolor painting which had amazing depth and part of the image faded off the paper in an awesome fashion. Several of the card artists taking the class have CASEd her perfectly! I don't have a cool honeycomb or hexagon or similar background stamp like Shari used, so I used a NBUS block background stamp called "Inspiration Mosaic" by Gina K. Designs.

And I made this.

Even though this background stamp isn't as dramatic for this type of painting, it is still a pretty color block of watercolor painting. Like the inspiration, I had the edge fade away and I turned my card to have the fade-out be at the bottom. 

Then I went in search of a challenge to give me inspiration for how to use my pretty background. I decided to play in the current TIME OUT Challenge which is "Time Flies ~ Love Lasts." 

I pulled out my little container of clock/time stash and found the perfect wood veneer timepiece which I smooshed through a pool of purple watercolor paint. 

I giggled out loud when I found that I had a stamp that actually said "time flies!" It's NBUS, and I don't know who makes it, but it was cool to find it. I next pulled out my "love" word dies and knew immediately that the block script of this love die (also NBUS) from Papertrey Ink would be a perfect die for the block pattern of the background.

S'kewl, right? You're with me so far? 

And then somehow it all went horribly wrong when I decided to travel back to 2003 and rip off the bottom of my card. My thinking was something having to do with the paints dripping down beyond the block pattern and fading away and so it might be cool to have the card be ripped along the edges of the paints. 

You know, like time tearing through the fabric of our love, or love lasts through the torn ridges of time, or ... or? Dude, what were you thinking?

The bottom line (oh, hahaha) is that a lot of work and effort went into this card before I decided to rip into it and I'm for sure not going to not share it with you, even if it means I have to resort to double negatives to do it. 

And that's what happened. I'm moving on. I suggest you do the same. Just move along folks. There's nothing more anyone can do for this card. Officer, would you please put up the crime scene tape and bring in forensics? And would someone please find me that doggone hamster?!

How We Can Help Newtown's Families

To all my friends and family:

 

Thanks to my friend, Jean, I have just become aware of a way that we can all help the children of Newtown, Connecticut as they try to cope with the devastation they are enduring.  Here is the graphic for this "love-raiser," as I'm calling it, and the link:  Drawn Together

I know that you are all in a bit of a tizzy with your own busyness of this holiday season, but I also know that you are having a difficult time even attempting to process what the holidays will be like for the surviving children and the families of Newtown.  I also know that your pain will be diminished if you take a few minutes to try and diminish the pain of others.  It's how it works.

 

Drawn Together is initiated by Amber Kemp-Gerstel and her proposal and request is articulate, thoughtful, and moving.  I want to thank Amber with all my heart for putting this together for us.  The work involved in making the kits is going to be enormous.  You are a beatitude, Amber.  Mwah!

 

Thank you, all, for any way you can help.  As your own young children or grandchildren are home from school for the holidays, perhaps they, too, would like to get involved and make sweet cards to send to the little children of Newtown.  All of the information is on Amber's blog.
