April Fools, Fishes, and Bunnies

Hello, Fools!

I thought I would go into the origin of the celebration of April Fool's Day, so I checked Wikipedia and I immediately found this line:

Precursors of April Fool's Day include the Roman festival of Hilaria ...

Now you will find a TON of information on Wiki about how the tradition of celebrating April Fool's Day started and how it is practiced in various parts of the world, but I think the best information of all is in that opening line. In fact, I wish that we celebrated The Festival of Hilaria instead of April Fool's Day!! Wouldn't that be hilaria?! I think so. (And I didn't even make that up!!)

Source
Another tibbit of information given is that in some places it started out being called April Fish Day. In places where that is celebrated, a rascallion makes a paper fish and then successfully attaches it to the back of someone who then becomes the "fool." Sort of nicer than attaching a "kick me" sign to someone's back. Not that I would know anything about doing something that naughty.

~~~
For my card on this foolish day, I chose to make a bunny rather than a fish. I was inspired by the current Lucky Dip challenge at Less Is More, where the theme is "Round and Round." Thank you, ladies, for another fun challenge!
We'd love you to display our banner
And here's my card:
I used my circle punches to create the round bunny body out of a store-bought note card covered in pretty springtime words. I used my heart punch to make the ears and feet, rounding half of the heart to make it more bunny ear- and foot-appropopo. The round bunny tail is made from a cotton ball pulled from the top of a medicine bottle. The bunny grass is hand drawn with markers and pencils and a silvery green glitter pen was used to write "Happy Spring" in the lawn.
~~~

More paper snippets used in today's card, so I'm off to Pixie's Snippets Playground to share my bunny with the gang there.

In between spring showers on Sunday, the Dukester kept me company as I deadheaded my Azalea bushes. As you can tell from my attire, it must have been all of 67 degrees, which is pretty much freezing cold in California.
You might notice that I have cut off a portion of my backside. The ability to crop photos is up near the top of my Gratitude List. I'm hoping you aren't very good at porportionizing, although, of course, you are, aren't you, being a card artist and all. Well, I'll just ignore that.

I had a few years of blissfully living in a land I like to call Delirium in between having a young son on the premises and now having young grandsons. Children, with their brutal honesty, have a way of bringing you crashing back to a land called Reality.

Why just recently, Henry was playing in the family room, I was in the kitchen, and Papa and Adam were off doing something. I asked Henry if he would like the Legos which are kept in a plastic box under Adam's bed just inside the door to their room. "Sure," he said. I dried my hands and went to their room, bending over in the doorway to retrieve the box.

I hadn't realized that Henry had gotten up and followed me.

Henry hadn't realized that I was going to abruptly stop in the doorway and suddenly bend over, so he had to come to a screeching halt just inches from my bottom.

Stunned, he blurted, "WHOA! You have a BIG butt!"

I thought about explaining how having a big butt is my genetic body type and that it does't bother me because I can't see it. Or telling him that grandma is all on-trend in this age of Kardashian big butts, but he's too young to know about stuff like that, thank goodness.

And anyways, I'm pretty sure he was just teasing me, you know? I mean, I think he knew he wasn't going to be here today for April Fool's Day, so he fooled me early, right?

{Cough.}

Now where are those walking shoes I bought in the 1900s?

~~~
Enjoy your day of hilaria! Enjoy crafting your fishes or your bunnies and slapping them unknowingly onto the backs of innocent people and then yelling, "April Fool" and running away!
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment and/or join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!
I absolutely adore your gorgeous bunny card, very clever use of the punches. I think it was meant as an April Fool joke on you, are sure he was not talking about the bunny.... Thanks for the giggle though and no - you don't have a big butt at all! Hugs, Annie xxx
Grins and giggles. Grins about your sweet bunny card! Love the note card body, and the cottony little tail. Hand lettering??!!! Way to go, my friend. Now. Giggles. As far as butts go... My grandma told us kids that grandmas were SUPPOSED to be chubby. That way they had soft laps and gave soft hugs! Besides, chairs are harder these days...I need the extra padding! Kids sure are funny. Someday, he'll be horrified that he actually said that! And grandma will just laugh. Great card. Bev (a properly chubby grandma!)
Hi Darnell, your bunny card is just so darn cute and very creative, I like the spring words on the paper that you die cut. Oh too funny about your grandson's comments. Maybe it was just because he was close? Kids are can say the funniest things, I recall my granddaughter asking me why I had "grey spots" in my hair as she pointed to my roots. Have a great day, Shirleyxx
Clever and cute, Darnell ... what a splendid bunny cotton tail! 1st April here we do the fish thing. Did you know that a butt is a fish ... Henry must've been talking about the fish already attached to your back (in elegant French style, of course)when he was so startled by your abrupt stop! Glad that's all explained! Hugs, Anita :)
OMGosh, Darnell...you are such a RIOT! Or, should I say, 'HILARIA'! I lost count how many times you made me laugh during this post...but, you are so great at doing that ~ Thank you!
I love your bunny card! How clever you are to use circle punches and hearts...not to mention the cotton ball from a med bottle!!! So creative and completely adorable!
Thanks so much for sharing your photo and story with us...I'm sure Henry was 'April Fooling' you in advance...wink, wink!
You have some of the most fabulous out of the box idea's a really true crafter, not following like sheep what everyone else is doing, great respect for that and also for the comedy value of your posts.
I also have to say a huge thank you for offering the RD prize to me and I really hope that you don't think that I have thrown the kindness in your face by turning it down, I also forgot to say 'no thank you' to the prize, I really don't enter for the prizes, but I am also on a mission to use up papers that I already have and as I said to Sarn, the stamp was an animal and I just can not colour animals. Thank you so much once again for thinking of me.
Henry, it must be to do with the name, my 5 year old Grandson is called Austin Henry and he told us the other week that by the time he had a girlfriend we would be dead, my eldest Grandson Ethan Henry had such a look of horror on his face and their Dad, John Henry was working away,in Honalulu, so we have three Henry's in the family,
Well, let's see....the post is hilaria for sure! Don't you just love those grands when they come up with things like that. My 2 granddaughters and I were shopping the other day and I made the comment (to myself and out loud) that all the clothes were old lady-ish looking. I had to pick them up off the floor they were laughing so hard! Gotta love 'em!
Now, on to your card - totally precious! Cute way to make the little bunny too. Love it!
Using a store bought card on your handmade card. Is that kosher? It sure turned out cute though.
You gotta love the comments from kids, always so truthful and yet hilarious at the same time! I asked Max this morning 'did he know what a bladder was?'. He didn't and I told him it was 'a bag where the wee waits till you go to the toilet'. He said that his one is quite small and I asked 'how do you know?'....he pulled down his pants and pointed at his 'saggy area' underneath his 'whatsit'. What could I say?? Told him that his bladder was inside his body and that area is for something else and then said we were late for school! So funny. By the way I so LOVE your card and can't believe its circles and hearts, your a genius!!!!
Great post - a card with a bunny backside & discussion of your own ;) Many years ago my little guy was telling some story about "beautiful moms" and used our neighbor as an example - LOL dear husband & I still tease him about it (in fairness, she is beautiful in a leggy, blond model kind of way).
Just had my usual chuckle here at the Playhouse, and enjoyed the cute card. Clever use of a storebought card to get the paper. Cutie rabbit. I have those same genes as you. It also comes from living a fun life! Gives you more sitting room where there's only a tiny space (or something like that!) Supports your big brain...Oh well, we all deal with it. Think back in the Renaissance..buxom & curvaceous women were the desirable ones, not the skinny scrawnies. (Yeah, that made me feel better too!) Hugs & TFS Loved the bunny.
