Autumn Birthday Redux ~ ColourQ #215; STB

Hi, Wonderful Whooshers!  TGIF!

I have to start today by clarifying my last post about being crowned.  I seemed to have confuzzled some of you.  I was talking about going to the dentist and having one of my teeth crowned.  The drug I mentioned was the Novocain shot I was given to numb the tooth area.  I was just having a little fun with a very unfun event!

But yesterday there were only fun events happening here.  Included was a lovely lunch with the ladies where we talked about the vagaries of our husbands.  Isn't 'vagaries' a great word?  It means:

1.
an unexpected and inexplicable change in a situation or in someone's behavior, "the vagaries of the weather"

synonyms:
change, fluctuation, variation, quirk, peculiarity, oddity, eccentricity, unpredictability, caprice, foible, whim, whimsy

I love the word, but I rarely remember to use it.  If husbands aren't quirky, I don't know who is.  I've been known to use less quaint words to describe my Mister.  Cough.

~~~
I'm still switching between autumn and Christmas cards and today I am back with two more autumnal birthday cards.  One is for our favorite son, whose birthday is Sunday, and one is for one of my besties, Nancy, whose birthday is also Sunday.
My first card is very similar to a card I made a few weeks back.  Here is the outside:
And here is the inside:
~~~

For my second card, I used the great fall/autumn colors of the current challenge at ColourQ:
And I'll enter it in the current Seize the Birthday "with texture" challenge.
I sure hope you get a chance to join in these fun challenges!  The links provided will give you all the fine print and the generous prize and sponsor details.

~~~
My card:
I hope you can see that cool wood grain frame impression plate from Lil' Inkers.  The leaves were from the Dollar store.  I added some drops of Dimensional Magic.
~~~

Today I am delighted to have you meet our newest friend, Kathleen of Plain & Simple.  Kath has been blogging her cards for a couple of years.  She has great style and a whole lotta humor shows in her card art.  I know you'll enjoy going to meet her and seeing her wonderful creations!  Welcome, Kath, and thank you for joining the party!

The fun photo is of an onion from her garden in the shape of a bird!  Ah, the vagaries of onions!

~~~
Enjoy your day!  No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment and/or join as a follower!  Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!
Ha ha!! I had to go back to my comment to see if it sounded like I was confused!! Phew...I think I'm safe! I totally got that it was in reference to a trip to the dentist, and I thought it was HILARIOUS!!! (And told in perfect Darnell style!!!). Today's cards are gorgeous (as always!). I especially know your 'favourite' son is going to love his mama's creation!!
... I figured dentist right off the hop...
Gorgeous colors and inking technique on your first card. Beautifully balanced with the swell stitched sun, the sentiment and the perfectly placed enamel dots. Stunning HB varicolored image! Your son is gonna love this one!
Awesome leaves on the second card - seriously a dollar store find? Love the water droplets and REALLY LOVE the wee green sproinkies on the tag!
Both are wonderful Darnell and brilliant. I especially love the leaves, a weekness for me as you can do so much with a leaf stamp/image/embellishment.
I wasn't sure what you were talking about yesterday but knew if I waited you would end up clarifying the situation and you do make me laugh - with your wonderful way with words. It's just that some days my brain doesn't fire too well lol! Have a lovely weekend x
It seems that we could have a very similar sense of humour, I really was a tad confused over yesterday's post and would never have guessed what it was all about. Brilliant post.
Two fabulous cards posted today and adore the colours.
Well I certainly wasn't expecting such an introduction, or to see my little birdie on the post.
Thank you so much.
I'm guessing it was those vagaries that got you moved to a table at the back yesterday, Darnell, they can have that effect!
Two stunning cards with gorgeous rich colours ... completely yummy sun burst (or should that be son burst?) and amazing texture-y dew dropped leaves ... awesome!
Anita :)
I love the inking on the first card and yes, I did notice the woodgrain frame on the second. I first noticed the mitered corners and new it wasn't just a regular embossing folder. The Dimensional Magic really adds to the leaves.
Ahhhhh!!! So it was the dentist...!! Good!!! I'm glad I'm not a total wackadoo these days...!!!
Great cards -- the sentiment on the 2nd card reminds me of my fave part in Alice in wonderland -- "a very happy unbirthday! To you" /// lol !!
Hope they both love your fab cards -- did you see the DT call at lil inkers...?!!
I'm not sure that I make any cards without their awesomeness!!! Love their stuff!! Enjoy the weekend!! Xo
Well, I have to say, having the "warped" sense of humor I have, I understood perfectly about your being "crowned"...scarey isn't it...but there are times people look at me as if I am nuts as I can laugh at the worse times, like when my shoe caught on fire and another time when I ate dog biscuits (not on purpose) and laughed until I cried, (walking thru the mall by myself)...but the white coats haven't come for me yet. Anywho, your two fall cards are very pretty and perfect for this time of the year, your friend and your son will both enjoy them I am sure!!
I got the 'crowning' essence quite well, especially since anything even remotely dentist-y gives me the heebie-jeebies! Dentists are nice people, I'm sure. As for husbands-with-vagaries: please add mine to the group. He is quirky; cute, but definitely quirky! LOVE your cards here! Nancy will be thrilled, and your favourite son will be delighted! Does this mean a visit with the grandkids and grand-dog over the weekend? Cake? Treats? Now that you've been crowned with the proper fortifications, you should be good-to-go with indulging in carmely and chocolately confections once again! Happy Saturday! Hugs,
c
Darnell I always know I am going to first laugh and then ooh and aah when I visit your blog. You always write the funniest stories to go along with your beautiful cards. I love that Lil Inker sun and all the great inking you did inside and out. I did notice the woodgrain frame and I wondered why I don't pull that one out more often. Fabulous!
I actually did understand the drug reference from the previous post (although I had to read it a few times) but now I want to know what vagaries were discussed!? I am loving your fall colors. I need to go through my NBUS stash and create some fall/Thanksgiving cards before the season is over and they have to stay in my NBUS stash for another year!
