CAS(E) #31, LIM #122 ~ Please CASE the Front Door

And we're back around to Friday ~ whoosh!

You will often find me in the thumbnail links at the Less Is More (LIM) challenges hosted by the fun and talented Chrissie and Jen.  This week is Colour Week and they have come up with the most unique color challenge ever:  we are to use the color of our front door!  That was just too clever of an idea for me not to play along, but I cut it really close and almost had their front door closed in my face!  The sponsor for this week's LIM challenge is  Lily of the Valley.

I actually have two front doors, the Big House (that's a little joke) and the Playhouse.  Since the Playhouse door is white,

I went with the Big House front door, which is a burgundy wine sorta color:

For my sketch, I used this sensational sketch by Chrissy over at CAS(E) This Sketch:

I actually do have real feathers I've picked up over the years and I've used them on cards now and then.  Now they seem to be a hot new trend and I'm all set except but however, since I was applying the sketch to the LIM front-door theme, I felt the urge to make a "new home" card:

I could have used a feather and made a nest for a new home card, now I think about it.  That woulda been cute, but nests are still a sensitive subject for me.  So . . .

Speaking of trends, I have to say I am enjoying the wood veneer trend.  Usually I let the trend wagon drive around the block a few times before I hop on, but these little wooden embellies are too darn stinkin' cute for me to resist!  This card is going to a family moving on "up" from a one-story to a two-story, hip-hip-woohoopdeedoo!

BTW, IIJM (is it just me):  I'm not sure what the designer had in mind with the curlieQ over the front door, but I think it makes the house look like it has a mustache.

~~~
Oh, and I thought you might get a kick out of the first photo I took.  Do you see anything achew?  (Bless you.)
I actually took three photos before I noticed and then I giggled myself silly for several minutes before I could settle down, uncross my legs, and fix it.  It's not easy gluing stuff to those wood veneer pieces.  In my file folder entitled, "You Learn Something New Every Day," that was today's entry.  (It's also not easy getting all those words on a file folder tab.)
~~~

I have two more new friends for you to meet today!  You will so enjoy getting to know Bev Gomez of Stamping with Bev and Sherrie M. of A Little Bit of Everything Me!  Both of these ladies are fun and very talented, so you won't wanna miss visiting them.  Welcome, Bev and Sherrie, and thank you so much for joining the Playhouse journey!

~~~
Enjoy your day!   No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS*!
Thank you so much for stopping by the Playhouse.  Special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment or join as a follower!
What, I'm the first one here? That never happens, especially on YOUR blog, Darnell! Well at least I'll be saving some scrolling time. Your embossed brick background is perfect for your new house theme. And now I can't look at your mustache house without a big smile on my face! Too funny!
Love the card and I agree it does look like a mustache! Might be giving LIM a miss this week as I'm just back from a short break and my front door is white and glass!
Love it Darnell! I had the same thought about the mustache! LOL
I can't unsee the mustache! It's there, all right :) (Alright? hmm)
As for the escaping embellishment...SO glad it's not just me! lol!
I can see the mustache too! Love, love, love this card (love your front door too), the two story house element is a brilliant idea and love the way you created the brick wall background - amazing. This challenge would not do for me - our front door is very dark brown - not much to play with there... I do slipping embellishments too..... Hugs, Annie xxx
Hi Darnell, that's so funny. I didn't see the moustache until you mentioned it and now I can't not see it, if you see what I mean ;-)
Lovely card, and yes I have trouble with embellishments. Sometimes I use that gel glue (Pinflair make a good one) as it seems to hold everything, although it does take a while to set. Your house looks beautiful, and the garden too in your previous post. You and Mister clearly work hard at keeping it so lovely.
Oh Darnell, you do make me laugh!! I must admit I can see that moustache on the cute wooden house. I love the embossing and perfectly matched colour.
The glue soaks into the wood doesn't it - glad it's not only me that struggles!!! I love how you stacked the two houses - I have the same ones so must remember that when I need a bigger statement from them.
Wonderful card and great post. I haven't jumped on the wood trend train yet, but I will today and all because I love your card.
Also, had to say your landscaping is wonderful. I'm going to show it to my LSA next week. I really love the way you all used the brick and how the lawn meanders around the tree area.
Hi Darnell, LOVE your new home card, very creative. I notice things after I take photos as well (out of line or missing something). The colour is a perfect match to your front door. By the way your front landscaping is beautiful and I'm still envious of your 'playhouse'. Cheers, Shirleyx
I thought that was supposed to be a mustache and it was a boy house and the one above was a girl house, but that was getting a little weird, so then my brain started seeing it as a two story house with a flourish. Well, anyway, It's a fun card for a new home and I love the brick background.
The brick background works great with your little house. My husband has a mustache and it looks nothing like what's on the house. I saw it as a portico.
I have those same little houses, and thought the same thing...it sure darn does look like a mustache! Your card is fun. I love how you've made the bricky color as the door in the tiny house. Another fab card, Darnell. Bev
Great take on your front door, and that little flower must be mighty slippery! LOL Great card :)
Just lovin' your two storey house graced with a very grand moustache.......not seen these cute houses before so must be an American thing but would love a die of these! Great piece of embossing and love the skew-wiff embellie! lol Had to laugh at your radishes.....that happens to mine when I can't keep up with eating them (or the slugs get 'em before me....), but they are pretty little flowers. Lovin the blue flowers - looks like a convulvulous to me (try saying that after a swift gin....or two!) but I've just had another look and think they are campanulas.....so pretty. As for Duke - well all I can say is he is definitely a Knauss family dawg! lol
fantastic card for both challenges, darnell! those little veneer pieces are way too cute, aren't they! thanks so much for your sweet comments on my DD card and about my appearance in the summer 2013 take ten! :)
Fabulous CAS card, hun, I adore the beautiful house wood veneer! Oh I wish I had a front door as pretty as yours, ine is boring off-white, and not very inspiring1 Actually, it could do with a thorough clean, since it's really off-white-spattered-with-mud. Which I'm sure would inspire Tim Holtz to make something grungy and artistic, but I just want to scrub it clean! Obviously I'm not a true artist who finds inspiration in everything lol!
love Mags B xxx
I love your front door, new house CASE card. I am in love with those wood embellies, too--but so far have done way more buying than using. I love that brick background.
What a fun thing to do! My front door is black which would be a lovely color to play off. Lots to do with that! And your card is awesome!!! I too have some wood pieces. I really, REALLY tried not to fall for the trend, but couldn't help it!!!
You are so right! It does look like a mustache!!
But I don't see anything in the first photo that would be wrong!!
Have an awesome weekend!!
Every house needs a mustache LOL - I am embracing the wood veneers too and LOVE your 2 story house - never thought to stack them and it is brilliant way to personalize the card. When we went from one level (which I loved) to 2 stories my kiddos were thrilled to finally have stairs - apparently it improves the social status of preschoolers?!
I so love your playhouse and it could of been an easy choice but I do love the card created especially the red bricks embossed, clever, really clever.
