Freshly Made Sketches #47 ~ By Jennifer T.

Hal E. Lula, it's Sunday!

We did it!  The twins and the geezers and the dog all had a really delightful time together for an entire week!  No one so much as scratched their . . . no, wait, Henry did scrape his forehead on the pool slide on the last day of camp.  Oh, and he also bonked his backhead on the restaurant booth on the last day at our let's-eat-out lunch.  But that's not too bad for two very activated little boys!  Thank goodness!!  The care of these priceless possessions while their parents were thousands of miles away was a heavy responsibility.  The parents deserved this vacation, so we are very grateful that everything went so smoothly for everyone and we all made many tender and fun memories.

A light and fun responsibility rattling around in my cranial cavity has been getting a card made and submitted for the Freshly Made Sketches before the linky-doodle closes.  Jennifer T. designed this week's wonderful sketch:

And I made this card:

To me, the background papers are the coolest. I love that contemporary black and white leaf paper (I believe by DCVW), and the beautiful handmade green leaf paper I've had for years. I struggle with covering up gorgeous paper, even if it is covered up by other gorgeous paper.

In this case, I detoured a weebit out of my CAS comfort zone and hope the layout is enhanced by the layering of these two patterned papers, and that neither are dehanced as a result.   With those layers, I kept the additional three layers related and unbusy using ribbon, cardstock, and a Memory Box branch die.  No stamps nor ink used.
~~~
I will leave you with a few fun photos:
Chocolate ice cream at the end of a hot summer day:
Duke sitting and staring out the patio door for literally two hours without moving.  Why?
I finally discovered that Nemesis Squirrel had taken to eating his favorite unripened sunflowers in a tree directly opposite the patio door.  Dukester was being slowly tortured, but never moved a muscle, nor whined.  He was a Pointer Sister, Baby.
It turns out that Nemesis Squirrel was not the only thing holding Duke's interest.  We also had Bathing Beauty Bird:
With the temperature, thus,
for the manyteenth day in a row, Saturday afternoon we veggied and watched the Olympics in the air-conditioned inside.
Yes, I know that looks like cartoons, but that's the Olympic channel.  Not sure why they filled some time with cartoons instead of with highlights, if nothing was happening live.  I'll bet I was in the bathroom when the call came in to ask my advice on the matter.
I've got a busy week planned and hope to craft, as well.  Now I'm heading out to climb Laundry Mountain.  I'm sure I'll see some of you there, or maybe later at the Cooking Cavern . . .
Enjoy!   As always, thank you for stopping by to visit.   Special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower or leave a comment!
Holy cow, I had to do a double take at that thermometer. Where do you live? Death Valley, I suppose.
Anyhoo on to the card. Just gorgeous. I understand your reluctance to cover up gorgeous paper, but you've covered it up with a gorgeous image, so you're forgiven. Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches!
LOL! You'd think! No, we live in the Bay Area of northern CA! We do get these temps a couple of days each summer, but usually not so many days in a row.
My grandkids have headed home as well...we had buckets of fun but are exhausted!!!
DH is watchding the replays of sports and the closing ceremonies and me catching up on bloggy comments.
Grandkids are so wonderful but the boundless energy in high heat waves can certainly tire you out. We were only 34 or 35...you certainly had us beat there! teehee
Duke is quite the dog! I know my Abby would have tried to be patient (while grumbling) but would have eventually lost her cool :)
As for the twinks' injuries - heck, I'm pretty sure I do at least that much to myself in the course of a day. Flat-out miraculous that they are so unscathed after a whole week!
Loving the ribbon layers on your card - and that branch die is to die for!
I bet you've had a ball with the twinks. Well done for returning them pretty much in the condition that you received them.
Your card is gorgeous, and I love how the branch reflects the fine lines in the background paper.
We've been longing for warmer weather before summer pass us by completely, but as soon as it gets over 20degC, with typical Britishness, we complain it's too hot. We'd never survive your temperatures!
Those are some beautiful papers! Glad you used them, sometimes I just look at pretty ones and put them back. You and Mister are so thoughtful to want to give your son and DIL time away especially without making them feel guilty! I'm sure the twinks will always remember these times with you.
