This is E = Embossing week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar. Recently, my friend Hilary posted beautiful embossed cards covered with vellum on her blog, Fiddling About. She had gotten the idea from another friend of ours, Leslie, of Running With Scissors. I couldn't wait to CASE their cards!

For my summery card, I used a NBUS e/f from Gina K.'s kit called, "Sunny Days & Breezy Nights." I chose a pretty pink color for the strawberry design and I covered it with thin vellum using a double-stick adhesive sheet. I've embossed with vellum before and sometimes it cuts right through in places if the vellum is thin. But I have never thought of adding the vellum to an adhesive sheet first, which not only gives it weight, it is easy to stick to the colored card without any adhesive showing or vellum flapping.
I'm not sure why, but some of my embossing folders looked better debossed in vellum and some looked better embossed in vellum, but either way, no loss. If the vellum gave me a bit of a blurry image, I just made a card using the other side of the panel face up, even though it does waste a piece of vellum and adhesive sheet. (I think of the person who decides to upcycle one of my cards and finds a pretty white slip underneath the front panel! Erf?)
Where was I? Sorry. Anyway, that's why the above card is debossed. This one happened to be prettier debossed than embossed. I chose a simple NBUS sediment from Simon Says Stamp called, "Simple Sending Love" to finish it off without covering up too many juicy strawberries.

Using the same process for my Christmas card, I chose a NBUS e/f from Simon Says Stamp called, "Poinsettia Oval." The sediment is from Creative Expressions by Sue Wilson. This card is much prettier in person, but looking at it now, I'm thinking I might run off another one in just vellum or in white to match the sediment and then fussy-cut the poinsettia to pop it on top. Mmm?

This vellum embossing process was so fun and addicting! As Hilary told me, "You will love the thrill you get when you open the embossing folder." (Even if it is accidentally debossed!🙃)

Two lovely cards, Darnell! I especially like the Christmas card. This is a technique I've never tried, so I'm filing it away. Like you, I struggle sometimes trying to figure out which side of an EF is the right one. Once I figure it out, I put a piece of Washi tape on it, so I know for sure the next time! Have a good week!
You have such a way with words, Darnell, that I think you need to change 'embossed' to 'upbossed' and that way you'll remember that the up side is the bumpy side of the folder. LOL That technique is fabulous and gives the look of running a white ink pad over the embossed areas without all the extra ink getting where you don't want it. It really accents those strawberries. Thanks for sharing that card with us at Just Us Girls.

A couple of great results from your emboss/deboss session and thank you for sharing one of them with us for the Allsorts challenge. You're not alone in making conscious (sometimes wrong) decisions as to which is the right or wrong way for E/Fs 🤣
Thanks for reminding me I wanted to try that vellum trick! I do love that there are two sides to paper. It has save several projects. I do love the debossed strawberries, and your second card is so lovely.
Embossing is one of my favorite techniques, but I mess up fairly regulary, too, putting one-sided cardstock in the folder the wrong way up. I love the idea of adding double-stick tape to the back of the vellum before embossing it. I think I'll give that a try. It sure would make quick work of it!
As to the ancient undies drawer - I have samples of full and half slips, pantyhose, girdle-type thingies, strapless bras, you name it! I just hope I get them tossed out before I suddenly succumb to a fatal something-or-other. My kids would have a field day going through those items!
Two fabulous cards Darnell, I like the strawberry debossed card and your Christmas card is stunning also. Vellum adds a nice elegance. Glad you shared your strawberry card with us at Allsorts challenge! I have the same drawer as you, keep thinking they will all come back in style, especially if I get rid of them!

For some reason I have a half-slip tucked under my underwear - which I most days remember to wear.

Wow, these are so pretty. The embossed vellum enhances the design so much. Those strawberries look luscious. I like that soft color for a Christmas card. I know about the drawer. I have pantyhose in a plastic egg still waiting for me.

Both of your 'bossed' cards are lovely, sis! I usually rub my finger along the panels to try and figure out if its pushing in or out - but even that doesn't always work.... ugh - I came to see the Christmas one - and it's a beauty with the subtle vellum design - love the light blue background and your pretty die cut sentiment! Y'all, it's me that upcycles whatever Darnell sends me. I'm not ashamed to admit it either.
Okay, both cards are very nice but I really really love the strawberries. I also understand the embossing on the wrong side. I've even used the last piece of that special hoarded piece of card stock that I loved so much to only stare at it and wonder if I should cry, throw it in the recycle bin, say a cuss word (just kidding) or just make the best of it. I wonder what Hammy would do. Those embossing folders can really boss us around some days.
oh my, that is a lovely card (well, both actually, but I am partial to the strawberries). I too struggle with embossing folders -- which side is which. Clever idea the one commenter had about putting washi tape on the top side. It amazes me how practical and clever some people are. Me, I just struggle and, like you mentioned, the paper has 2 sides.
yes, I too have a drawer of slips, half slips, girdles, too small swimsuits, panty hose. At least I don't have any garter belts! HA Remember those contraptions???

Embossed/debossed, what's the big diff if it ends up being this pretty?!! Two great cards!
Now the confessions, I'll say it, I use both sides, depending on what I think looks better and that goes way back to Michele and I inking the folders before running them through -- ink one side or the other. As for which side is correct, "lumpy side down".... now I won't say the mental picture that I get, but I'm sure you'll get it!
Your debossed strawberries card is beautiful and I really love your pretty Christmas card with the embossed poinsettia. That sounds like a great idea to fussy cut the poinsettia to pop it up. Have a great week.
I've yet to try this technique and I can see that I need to get to it! What beautiful cards whether they are embossed or debossed! I agree that it's hard to tell which end is up! I can't decide which I like the best. I'm loving the pink and white strawberries and the beautiful sentiment and the Christmas card is beautiful and serene!
