Go Fly a Kite! And Have a Birthday Burger!

Hello Stamplings!

I mean that title in the best way, of course! Yesterday was Go Fly A Kite Day! I know many of you weren't flying kites, however, and I hope your property wasn't damaged by the nasty line of storms and tornadoes over the last several days.🤞

I brought a little friend of Hammy's to brighten your Monday . . .

Onefer
As it turns out, I gave my kite dies and stamps away (or they're in the wrong cupboard🤪), so this beloved Stampingbella stamp is standing in with his heart balloon kite! His name is Milton. I think you can see why Hammy loves him!

It's E = Embossing week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar. I stamped Milton with Versamark and then heat-embossed him in copper e/p. Hammy waited on board with his winker while I painted Milton with my Ziggies.

After wards, I used my SU Subtle e/f to emboss him and the yellow background panel. Someone might have mistookenly stamped Milton crooked, so I cut down the panel and placed it an angle, so his left foot is level now. And then what happened was, we loved painting, winking, and embossing Milton so much, we did it again:
It's especially easy making two when you use the same colored brushes. I wish I would remember to do doubles (or more) of all my cards every time. Slap! I stamped this guy level, but a little too far to the right, so I used metallic stickers on the left to balance him.

I'm playing in the Alphabert Challenge (Z is for Zoology - any animal) and Krafty Chicks (CAS).

Twofer
I noticed a couple of challenges which reminded me I have this excellent NBUS Washi tape from Alexandra Renke for making easy manly birthday cards. For the sketch challenge, I used a circle die to cut out the bbq kettles and then backed them with black circles, so they would stand out against the texture of this SU e/f.

I used the sketch from CAS Colours & Sketches, flipping it horizontally, and AAA Birthday wants us to use Washi Tape.
Here you can see the Washi tape uncut:
Alexandra Renke's papers and Washi tapes are incredibly artistic and detailed. And beautiful. For this roll, there are actually seven different paintings of grills and a set of grilling tongs before the images repeat! If you've got a griller (male or female) in your family, it's a great design!

Or, if you don't plan to make 1500 cards, I'd be happy to share my roll with you. They peel on and off paper easily, so I can stick a few pulls on a coupla card panels and pop them in the mail to you. Just let me know.

~~~
If I had the energy and if I knew 20 years ago what I know now, I would have started a Clearinghouse for our hobby. You could send in the NBUS or gently-used products which you don't want any more and get a credit, which you could then spend on other people's discards.
Wouldn't that be a great idea? Especially more so now with the cost of everything being so high. I'm sure all the famous designers and companies read my blog🤣, so maybe someone will take the idea and run with it! Or maybe someone has and I've never heard of it?
~~~

Enjoy your week!
No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!* Go fly a kite!

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!

p.s. I just realized it is Earth Day on Wednesday this week! Give the earth a hug!!
*Life is too short!

He's such an adorably cute little fellow - love these two cards and also your clever use of the washi tape.

All the cards are beautiful, Darnell. Grilling weather can't come soon enough. I'm done with bad weather! xoxo

Always great to start my day with a smile from Darnell! Great cards, my friend.

Hammy's little friend is just as cute as he is. I like that effect of embossing over the design. No wone would actually know the corrections for your mistakes unless you confessed. I am fortunate to be a part of one of those swaps. The Wishful Thinking shop in Nashville IN has an annual trash to treasure sale. You get store credit for your sales which is like getting free stuff.

Wonderful cards. Such a cutie! A clearinghouse is an amazing idea I have done that with friends - shipped off a few items to them. They have sent me things in return.

Darn, I missed flying my kite yesterday!! Milton is cute as can be with his balloon. Both cards are fun ones and Hammy did great, as usual with his winking. The BBQ tape is a fun way to make cards, especially male cards. A clearing house sounds like a great idea. I haven't heard anyone mention it before so you may be on to something.

Milton is such a doll! I love his jolly belly and sweet demeanor, it's obvious why Hammy loves him. He makes a great card. Speaking of great cards, your bbq cards are amazing too. Your washi tape trick is great for those masculine cards!

You really brought Milton to life with your fabulous Ziggie coloring, Darnell. Those are both such cute cards and those grills make great masculine cards.

Gosh, that little Milton is adorable- lovely designs to show him off, love the texture from that very subtle ef. Great way of using the washi tape for your CAS masculine cards.
I've often thought that some enterprising soul should start a swap shop for crafters. Would do it myself but I'm far too lazy!

Milton is adorable!! Great colouring and I love the designs for both cards. I'm with you ... why don't I make two at the same time. Probably because I never know what I'm doing until I'm at the end. :) I could really use an assist on building my stash ... especially Christmas cards. I believe I have about a dozen done so far and it's almost May. Only 88 more to go before December. The BBQ card is awesome for those Grilling relatives. Hope you are having a wonderful day, my friend. Love, Lolly

I couldn't have flown a kite yesterday anyway 'cuz there was not a breath of wind. However, I'll be sure and hug the earth on Wednesday. I'd like to hug Milton. He's so cute, and I believe I've mentioned a time or two how I admire your watercoloring. I think I have this guy as a stamp off someone sent me... hmmm. You know... I never dared get into washi tape or I'd overindulge, and heaven knows I do enough of that already, but that doesn't stop me from loving what I see done with it. I think your circle sketch is a clever way of using it, and I like the border sketch just as much! BTW, I'm certain all the famous designers and companies DO read your blog.

Oh Darnell, I love Milton. What a great stamp. Clever use of the washi images too. Great idea about the used book exchange but for stamping supplies.

I just LOVE this precious little mouse, sis (he isn't a hammy is he and if he is I hope he isn't insulted his tail threw me off?) - and he's so WONDERFULLY colored! I've seen a FB group that sells their extra craft supplies but it includes yarn and fabrics and other stuff - haven't checked it out except for seeing it go by in my feed - Tim Holtz fans have a FB Group where they post Tim's stuff for sale and so do fans of Eileen Hull a Sizzix designer. Milton is too adorable for his own good and it looks like he's eating well! The Washi grills are lots of fun. What will they think of next! Cute cards, Darnell!

Super post! I think I have a stamp set with a barbecue in it! Not
as simple as washi tape but.........!

Milton is adorable and he looks like he is lots of fun! I see why Hammy likes him. I love his heart shaped kite and I hope he found it as windy as it was here yesterday. I'm loving the grills on the Washi tape. Next time you send something this way, I'd like a strip or two. No rush though. You made two fabulous masculine cards with it!

Milton is a cute little feller and I love our coloring and embossing. All your cards look great.

Love your Clearinghouse idea which I've often wished for! Such fun cards--love the dry embossing over Milton! That is great Washi!

Cuteness 😍 plus with Milton lovely cards, as are Barble cards we are apt to throw a prawn or Sanger (sausage) on the barbie. Babies or BBQ are bit of an institution in Oz, and few males in our family that think they're BBQ or griller champions!😅😂🤣 I'm partial to a real barbie with family or friends as long as they're cooking and not me!! Never cooked one in my life.

I hope to link over to your IDEASand NBUS tomorrow, ie Wednesday. Sending praying hugs for you and Mister Darnell. Shaz in Oz.x

Oh, man, Milton is magnificent! I'd like to tickle his little belly. Your bbq grill cards are great masculine cards. I had not thought of looking for male-themed masculine tape, but I guess I should. I have so much trouble thinking of ideas for masculine cards - and there are SO MANY men in my family! I think I need to do some online shopping...

I love reading your posts so much I’m sad when I get to the end 😂. It’s like picking up a favourite magazine with all the headlines, pictures, tips and funny bits! Fabulous Hammy cards (I forget to do two at a time too), and I wondered why it was so windy (I thought it was the beans we had for tea). Love the washi tape cards too, it’s great to have a masculine one. The clearing house is a good idea. Me and some friends have a sort of library, where we lend and borrow stuff……imagine if there were big craft libraries…..we’d all be rich! I do hope the storms didn’t cause too much damage, and I’ll be digging Earth day, I have lots of weeds. Have a good day xxx

Milton is adorable Darnell, wonky or to the side!! ;) Your idea of the clearinghouse sounds a great one, we all have bits or more that are under used and too good to throwaway. My bestie keeps giving me all her DP, says I will use it, but it justs keeps building up! :)

Milton is so cute! He even has a heart at the end of his tail. Love both of your designs and I think the second one worked out better with the two strips down the side. Great use of the very unique and useful washi tape.

Super wonderful cards, Darnell!! I love Milton and you colored him so perfectly. Several years ago, I believe there was a site where you could rent stamps - use them for a week or so and return them. I never tried it, but that would have been nice, too.

Love the image in the first two! And the bright colours on both! Great use of washitape on the other two and I love the gray textured background! Hugs, Gerrina

I love Hammy's friend. He told me he wants to come home and live with us. Oh my, that washi tape. I have 3 grillers in the family. None of which is me. I'd love to have a few of those. You have my address. I'll send you some postage stamps as a trade. Hugs, [Bunny]

Love your idea for turning over our older gently used supplies! I'm in if you start it up :)) Great cards today - wonderful hamster image (and great recovery for the crooked stamping). And great grilling cards for the guys!

I just adore Milton, he's mega cute Darnell and beautifully coloured with your ziggies and I love both designs. The twofer is great using this washi tape and perfect for a masculine card, and the three little circles over the pretty embossed background work brilliantly using the CAS Colours & Sketches design. x
