Septimus Alredius!

Hello Stamplings!

I hope this finds you feeling well!

Following last Monday's post, I did call in Scour and Reorg. The timing turned out to be good because the busyness helped take my mind off yet another senseless school shooting in this country which left two children dead, many injured, and anyone there mentally troubled for the rest of their lives. I want to rant on about it, but that's not why you're here.

We've turned the calendar today for the ninth time in 2025! Happy Labor Day to those celebrating! There are only three more turns to go and the yuletide will be coming in! This week's I.D.E.A.S. Calendar is I = Ink/Color Medium. With the Playhouse turned topsy-turvy by my crew, not to mention my mental state, I consorted with B.O.B. and I found two inky panels previously made with Brusho powders. And, thus:

Onefer
Some of my bloggie friends made cards a coupla weeks ago using the Northern Lights technique. This isn't that, but a shoutout to them for the inspiration to see this panel as very Northern-Light-ish, so I simply used an old wooded SU silhouette tree stamp in the foreground. (I meant to say wooden stamp, but you have to love the English language because ha-ha, it's also wooded!)

This left me with turkoyce hills, so I covered them with snow using my NBUS Simon Hurley Astro Paste. It's crazy how impossible (especially in the sun) it is to photograph the stunning schparkle of this paste when it dries. In real life the whole bottom area is covered like in the lower left-hand corner.

I'm playing in Jingle Belles where the brief is "Cardstock Christmas." I used black and watercolor cardstock only.

Twofer
For this design ... wait. Where's the rest of this Brusho panel? Wheeeel, what happened was, I went to CASE my friend Susan's card because her design reminded me that I have the same Santa and his sleigh silhouette stamp which I thought would be perfect for a Northern Lights sky. Using my MISTI, my first stamping of the sleigh in black with a heavy hand still wasn't enough coverage, so I reinked the stamp and stamped it a second time. When I lifted the lid of my MISTI, I saw that the Brusho panel had moved in spite of a grip pad and magnets. Wah. Wah.

My cursing made Stanley dive under his blankets, but Hammy calmly suggested that I just cut off Santa and his sleigh and use the partial panel on a card. B.O.B. provided the die-cut sediment and Pinkfresh Studio Washi butterfly which led to the Sizzix cloud e/f and, well, B.O.B.'s your uncle! And now I'm on Santa's naughty list. (Like I wasn't already!)

I'm playing in Addicted to Stamps and More where they are celebrating Challenge 500! Congratulations!! This time the brief is Die Cuts / Stencils. Also, Simon Says Stamp Wednesday where the brief is Anything Goes featuring Pinkfresh Studio.

Bonus!
After I stamped the trees for my Onefer above, I put a white folded card in my MISTI and stamped off the heavy black ink. Bonus! It gave me another perfectly useable card for my Christmas stash. I've always had a fondness for black and white evergreen trees and simple sediment for a Christmas card design. For this card, I used a sediment from SSS "Holiday Greetings Mix 1." I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to add a period to that sediment.

I'm playing again at ABC Christmas Challenge under Q is for Quick! It doesn't get much more QACAS than this!

Lesson

And then what happened was, bless my heart, I thought why not run it through my Gemini using an embossing plate to add falling snow for, you know, interest. Only I didn't ask my little rompers, so I grabbed my 3D snow when I should have grabbed my 1D snow and now here's a lesson for all of us on how sometimes cards don't need more interest!
That poor little bird is about to be knocked out of the sky by that snowfall those snowballs!😆

Great that your tidying session helped to take your mind off the horrendous event mentioned in your first paragraph - mindless violence is so abhorrent but a sad part of life I fear.
Three gorgeous inky cards and great that BOB provided most of the bits and pieces. Loved seeing the pic of your giant snowballs falling onto those delicate trees, whacking the poor bird on the way. Raised a smile here 🤣

How perfect that you're celebrating ATSM's 500th post with a Brusho inspired panel. I was only looking at Kylie's Brusho tute on You Tube yesterday! Well rescued by the way. :)

Lovely cards, Darnell! I am with you on your sentiments about the news from this last week. Oh my goodness. 😓 Perhaps as card makers we can bring joy that can make a small difference. I love your night sky card, and am intrigued by the Lunar Paste. I’ve seen it online but after what you said about it I want to get some! I’ll bet it would be perfect on Christmas cards. Thanks for your inspiration!

All the cards are wonderful. I wish you lots of luck reorganizing your space. Hard to do at anytime. Thank you for sharing your delightful cards. Even if it was a tad frustrating to create them at times. ;)

Northern lights without the frustration, Dolly! What a pretty scene and I'm sure the schparkle is awesome even if the camera doesn't want to show it. I believe that it's good you didn't waste the beautiful colors in the second card! The butterfly looks quite happy there. Not wasting any ink was a fabulous idea for the threefer. I like a heavy snow with large flakes floating down. I think the bird is dodging them just fine. LOL, it's good you got a photo both ways.

Thanks for sharing your process of creating these great cards! I could almost see those wheels turning as you thought about the Brusho panel, the mis-stamped Santa and the snowball snowfall.

I have happy and not-so-happy accidents all. the. time. Surprisingly, they seldom get binned. Somehow, I usually manage to perform a little triage and save them (sort of). I cannot shake the mantra of my youth: waste not, want not!

Love the northen lights look. We on the edge of the path to view northern lights tonight, but I am not driving out to the country at 3 am to view. So I will just view the ones on your card. Good save on the Blieve one. I like the drama of black and white too.

Great cards, Darnell, and although there were a couple of mishaps along the way, they are all great at teaching us lessons too (Santa and your snow are showing us the way)! Now hopefully I can just 1) learn from you and 2) remember that learning - ha! Truly, they are great cards

It's always a treat to see your creations and read your humorous posts sis! Those trees are beautiful with Northern lights, CAS beauty and even a snowball snowstorm! And a lovely butterfly in the clouds popped in the middle!

Good for you spending time to reorg and purge. Something I need to do desperately, but somehow I get distracted by card making. :) Such a terrible tragedy for everyone involved. These senseless events seem to happen too often. May heart goes out to the families involved. Great work on your Christmas card (and bonus card). We have all had trouble images shifting right before a second stamping. You've made good use of your saved panel to create a lovely card, Dolly. And I love to see the older stamp from SU! being used. I have kept that stamp for many years too and use it often. It's a classic. Thanks once again for the IDEAS challenge ... it keeps me making cards. I'll be adding one in a few minutes to your linky! :) xx

It seems every time Rich turns on the TV there's more horror. I retreat to my Golden Retriever bubble knowing there will be no solace for many. Your first card looks remarkably like northern lights without even trying. Beautiful! I'm sorry about the mishap with card #2. Nevertheless, you created something lovely from the salvaged remains. I love the look of the trees in #3. They appear to be dusted with snow, and will soon be covered with a lot more in that heavy snowfall! The 3D snow is pretty amazing!

What a great set of cards, but I am so sorry about the snow incident and just when I was really admiring the simple black and white nature of the perfect CAS card. Never mibd. These things happen to us all. Love the pretend northern lights and all that sparkle too xx

I always love reading your entertaining blog posts, Darnell! And looking at your cards, too. These are all lovely, and I especially love the third one - before the blizzard. :-) The last one is nice, too, though.

Gorgeous batch of cards with ink, Darnell - thanks for the inspiration!! Great save on the inky panel for the butterfly - love it! 3D texture? Why not! Looks amazing, even if you think it's too much!

Your colorful sky is sensational, and I'm absolutely thrilled with this card!!!
You did everything right with the third card, too. The idea of adding the snow with an embossing folder was perfect!
I hope I find enough time to play along.

Your post is just filled with inspiration, Darnell! It's always great to find something in your stash that is "just right," and the panels with Brusho powders are gorgeous! I do love your CAS Christmas card.

Your Brusho panel does look like Northern Lights, whether intended or not, and the trees are a great way to let the light shine, Darnell. Rescue is sometimes the name of the card making game and you did great with the second panel. So sad about the snowfall. Why do we always think our cards "need more"?

Beautiful cards Darnell I just love that tree stamp and the variegations of cards you make it look so easy and the blending is something l am about to try out seeing cards like yours are so effective x

What a fabulous save Darnell. See there are no mistakes in crafting only opportunities. I can only send you overseas hugs from here in Wales - it is horrifying to read of that happened yet again - I lived in Texas for a few years and was somewhat relieved to come back home to rural Wales and no guns. Thank you for sharing with us at ATSM
