Today Is a Good Day!

Hello Stamplings!

I know, I'm back pretty quickly, but before they close, I want to support a few challenges with a QACAS OLC (quick and clean and simple one-layer card).

But first, sorry, it was rude of me not to ask how you're doing? The Heat Dome over the US and parts of Europe is like something out of a science fiction movie. Since we can't escape it, then we just have to decide that today is a good day to have a good day!
Peeking from the side of my card is a portion of a NBUS flower stamp from Craft Emotions. It doesn't say on the packaging, but I think they are magnolia flowers. I've done the direct-to-stamp inking and spritzing technique in Ukranian blue and yellow colors. The sediment is unmarked. After I touched up the image with my Ziggies and colored pencils, I ran the card through my Gemini using the SU Subtle e/f. I love how the sun lit the texture so it looks like the background is made of stucco.

Challenges
~~~
No Twofer today, but I'll leave you with a couple of eggcorns. I haven't shared any in a long time:
  • escape goat, instead of scape goat.
  • hearbuds, instead of ear buds.
  • plate mats, instead of place mats.
  • radar detester, instead of radar detector.
  • real goal-getter, instead of real go-getter.
  • very close veins, instead of varicose veins.
You gotta love 'em. Seems like every family has one or two. Does yours? You prolly remember my family favorite was my Aunt Alzada's: "hard roll to hold," instead of "hard row to hoe."😂
~~~

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse, being a follower, and leaving some love!

Aren't you the wealth of knowledge, Darnell. I'd never heard the word 'eggcorn' although I do know of the mix up in words that it means. Thanks for informing me.
Thank you too for sending that lovely QACAS card to our gallery at The Flower Challenge.

Pretty flower peeking in to say have a good day. Those are fun eggcorns, especially the radar one. Ours is not too, not very. Meaning not too bad, not very good. Not too cute, not very ugly, not too hot, not very cold. It depends on what we are talking about. Maybe you had to be there. Have a good day!

I love this sentiment and the sweet Ukrainian colored flowers, Dolly! You are doing great with those flower stamps! The embossing does look like stucco. I love the texture! No eggcorns that I can think of this morning but I enjoyed yours!

Beautiful flowers. That is a great sentiment. I have to find a pretty font and print it out to use on a card.

A lovely card, Darnell. The colors, design and saying are just perfect to help us through the day. Thanks and hugs to you!

Verna Angerhofer said...

That is so beautiful with the simplicity of the design and I love the sentiment. The colors are gorgeous too!

I love the blue and yellow of the pretty magnolia flowers Darnell, one of my favourite combinations at the moment and the added words looking like they were hand written are perfect. Sorry you are having it extremely hot at the moment, it is rather energy sapping when it gets like that. We have had a few nice days and today it is very close so I know we will soon be having storms. x

It's a lovely floral and I don't think I've ever embossed over a stamped image before. It makes for a much more dynamic one layer card! I loved reading the "eggcorns," and had never heard any of them. It's been hot and humid here, but as usual, it didn't last too long. Relief today and tomorrow, then back to the high temps on the weekend. But nothing like you get on a regular basis.

I love that embossed texture in the background against those pretty magnolias! Great color combo too! I never heard of eggcorns before but I really enjoyed reading them :)

Beautiful one layer CAS card, love the effect you have achieved with the stamping and those colours and I just love that sentiment. I think I might have to reproduce it as it would make a change from my usual just for you and is useful for almost any occasion. Thanks for that and for the list of alternative saying xx

A beautiful crisp QACAS card! You're very precise with your markers. Love the eggcorns. I know we have some in our family, but they don't come to mind at the moment. Love your Aunt Alzada's "hard roll to hold", hahahahaha! Thanks!

Beautiful one layer CAS darnell, the flowers peeking out the edge are lovely and I agree, the textured paper seems really a stucco on a wall!

Your card is beautiful, but the yellow/blue color combo always makes my heart ache for the Ukrainian people. How I wish their horror would end and peace would evelop them like a comforting blanket once again.

Your clean and pretty flower card sent me a nice cool breeze, Darnell! I started taking a walk at high noon (95 degrees) today and quickly realized that was a mistake!! Enjoying your blog post in an airconditioned room is heaven! ;-D Love the placement of the flowers and sentiment, keeping a lot of space wide open. The eggcorns you listed made me and my husband laugh out loud. Thanks for sharing!

What a wonderful one layer CAS card, Darnell - and in blue and yellow, one of my favourite colour combinations. A fabulous sentiment too.

Wow Darnell, your spritzed stamping is lovely! I always make such a mess if I spritz it, the colours run into each other. But yours is so clear and detailed. Thanks so much for playing along with us at Perfectly CAS this month!

Oh Darnell, I just LOVE this sentiment! SO very true!!!! I love all the texture and these gorgeous blooms! So happy you joined us at The Paper Players this week!

An exquisite card Darnell - no Hammy to add schparkle?? Too hot for him??
You could send some of that heat Down Under as it's been very wet here, and has now turned (frosty) cold...
I had not heard the expression Eggcorn before, but I did enjoy your examples :) A bright spot on a gloomy day in a house with Covid... I am not affected at this point, and God willing I will escape it.
Blessings

Hello, Darnell! I like your CAS card with beautiful texture! That's a great sentiment too - it's always a good day to have a good day, isn't it?! Sounds like you are suffering in the heat - it's humid here but manageable - I hope you get some relief soon! I enjoyed reading your eggcorns, so funny! Have a great weekend and try to stay cool!

Beautiful colors, perfect card! And your eggcorns are pretty adorable too. Yes my family has them too but I can never remember them until they're said -- my grandma, my mom and our neighbor across the street are great at using them

Just love your delicate blossoms and they look amazing embossed with Subtle (love that ef!)! Hadn't heard of eggcorns before - so fun; I went to the link you furnished and read about them. Thanks for the chuckles!

I love your flowers but your fabulous sentiment does it for me Darnell. Thank you for sharing with us at Less is More.

Love your CAS one layer card - a technique that I don't do well. Love the blue/yellow colors.
It has been HOT here as well, good day to stay inside - most days. It is raining a bit here - not nearly enough but a little. Have a good week.

What a beautiful CAS card Darnell! I love your artistic use of colour and the fabulous texture and what a charming sentiment too. I very much enjoyed your Eggcorns and would like to confess that I believed I was eating Cold Slaw for quite a long time! My youngest son's discovery of limpets in the rock pools on a beach holiday when he was tiny coincided with the Olympic Games on TV, so our family have always called them Olympets as he did. Thank you for setting off the happy memories my friend! Vicky x

Good Morning Darnell! Thanks for dropping by my humble corner of the internet and your lovely comment! I love your card - and I love your support of the Ukrainian people! The husbands of two Ukrainian friends (refugees who joined our choir in February) are now in the thick of the fighting and we are very worried about them. One of them has a young son and has to put on a brave face for his sake but it must be harder and harder to do so. I'm going to take a leaf out of your book and make a card for them this week to help brighten their day a little when I see them this weekend!
Speaking of brightening days, thank you for brightening mine with your eggcorns! Though I am embarrassed to say I've been using "card shark" all my life and only realised this morning it should be "card sharp". Still at least the whole idea of eggcorns is that they often make more sense than the correct term - unlike say gazpacho or peach tree dish!

Kate said...

I forgot to add that the direct to stamp technique is something I've not tried in donkey's ears - not very successfully as the ink would dry to quickly!! Now that I have a stamping platform I might give it another go - maybe go all Glass Menagerie and make some "blue roses"!

Nope. Never heard of an eggcorn but you did have me chuckling Darnell.. and thanks so much for your pick me up comment on my post last night my time or day prolly your time! 😆🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love your QACAS, think I especially love the defiant attitude of joy now .. no mutter wot!
I wonder if the wise men whinged half way through their journey following the star, with too much sand in their sandals or summat, like I’ve been doing tonight.
I’ve decided I’m a whingebucket.
Yup that’s me.
(Where’d the wisemen pop in from?.. prolly cos know I’m way behind in their cards!)

Mostly I’m glass half full, but when the reverse happens I need a good shake .. or a cheer me up like your post … thank you love you lots and pray for you each day!
Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, hugs Shaz in Oz.x

Your stamping looks amazing, Darnell. I love that the twigs look like they have double lines. This is the effect of wet watercolor stamping and I like it very much. It looks like a very precise drawing. I also love the color selection. Support for Ukraine is right when this cruel war is fought on their lands.
I hope you have good days. You are so optimistic that you can find something good in any situation. That's why we all love reading your blog :-)
