I hope this finds you doing well, staying busy, and enjoying some creativity ~ whether in your craft area or your garden. So many places have short summer seasons so the days have to be relished as much as possible. Well, and sure, there's hot dogs, too, to be relished. It makes me pause and wonder, what do relish companies make and sell during the winter months? Sauerkraut? Chicken broth?
I know you want to live in my mind for just one day, don't you? Let me know when you want to come by and I'll kick out some of the squirrels.
This design turned out to be a tribute to the old Papertrey Ink company who made both the balloon circle die and the wonderfully-fonted sediment which I embossed in gold. Inspired by the current challenge at CAS Mix Up, I tried a new-to-me technique of dropping alcoholic inks onto vellum paper. What a fun trip that was! Usually I have a sort of sixth sense about knowing when to stop adding more and more of this or that to a technique or design.
I found out that I have no such sixth sense when it comes to AI on vellum. I played, loved the result, but then I cocked my head, checked my hamster, and played some more, rinse, repeat! As you will see in the close-up, at one point I added shimmery acrylic paint to the mix. Wait. What? Yep! I'm telling you, it's addicting! And so cool. The end result is dark and moody from one angle and killer bright and shiny from the other angle:
The linen card design itself using the vellum balloons is uber-duber QACAS. Is that some kind of rainbow mirror card I used for the matting, you ask? Nope. Just what the camera and Mr. Sun put together as a cheery surprise for us.
- CAS Mix Up: Hosted by Coni: Alcohol Inks on Vellum. In addition, I stamped, heat-embossed, and die-cut.
- Seize the Birthday: Anything goes.
- Watercooler Wednesday: Dawn: All About Occasions.
Uber-doober QACAS II. This little poinsettia stamp and die is NBUS from poppystamps. I simply heat-embossed it in red and then heat-embossed a few leaves in green. It was Wednesday, so Hammy was in his beanbag chair directing the composition and I like the loose minimalist design he came up with using only one leaf. (He's getting pretty old now, you know, for a hamster, so he may have nodded off, but I went with it.) The sediment is heat-embossed in gold.
- Addicted to Stamps and More: Die cuts and/or stencils.
- CAS Christmas: Poinsettia.
- Less is More: Christmas in July.
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy and keep safe! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!

Super duper designs, Darnell! Loving the colors and shimmer of those balloons, and how different the colors look from other angles.
Love your cards today Darnell
Two wonderful cards, Darnell. I especially love the first one, what an amazing result of you playing with vellum and the inks. xx
Oh now you are enticing me to get out my AI and try it on vellum. The balloons are absolutely beautiful - and I know that every time to add more "inks" or "paints" it turns out different. I'm usually not much into messy but I think I have to try this tomorrow. Great twofer.
LOVE your take on the AIs on vellum---simply gorgeous! That old PTI sentiment set is still one of my favorites! Also love the CAS Christmas card. Despite all the good Christmas challenges, I've yet to pull any Christmas supplies out. This might be the inspiration I need.
Love your AI play, so fun. Great font on that sentiment. The poinsettia card is fab too...
I cannot leave comments again, so I am hoping this one gets through!
The AI technique on vellum is new to me, it looks pretty amazing and adding the paint, it must be very addicting for sure.
Your CAS Christmas card is beautiful, I just love the simplicity of it. Hugs, Annie xxx
Your playing with vellum and alcohol inks worked great, and the acrylic too! Beautiful card. The one with the poinsettia is very elegant with the mirror gold stripe and the lovely sentiment!
Today's two QACAS designs are stunning with their shimmery accents. Simple elegance beats detailed frippery every time! I can understand if Hammy did nod off during the card construction. I can nod off, too, in the middle of making a card. I have a feeling my blog visitors are able to figure out when that has happened!
Loving the shimmer and shine, Darnell!
WOW!!!! LOVE your alcohol ink on vellum die cut balloons and heat embossed sentiment, Dolly! Acrylic shimmer paint...what?!? I must check it out...Gorgeous shimmery effect!! TFS your beauty and the extra photo of the shimmer and....your 2nd card CAS poinsettia Christmas card. What a fun play day...wish I could have played along, my friend, but happy you shared your fun with all your friends. Love and Hugs...Nancy
Hammy would NEVER nod off while on stamp duty Darnell - supervise from behind his eyelids, maybe, but not sleep!!!
Loving your gorgeous creations, and the unexpected changes of colour in the balloons.
Hammy was correct to have just the one leaf in the Christmas design!!
Oh Wow Darnell, I love the AI on vellum and the gorgeous effect that you've got with the shimmer. It make such a fantastic card. I love the second card too.
Love the card! Now I'll have another use for the 80+ alcohol inks I have. I'm off. Oh, by the way, how are you doing in this heat. Out here in Death Valley, it's just another hot day!
Stay cool, dear friend.
Just lovely Darnell - that poinsettia is CAS perfection!
Awesome cards Darnell, love the shimmer and shine on your alcohol ink one, and the gold and red poinsettia is beautifully CAS, thankyou too for playing along at CAS Christmas and Watercooler Wednesday, Cathy x
Like the cards! That first one is beautifully grunge, even with the sparkle and that 2nd so calming... Wish you a good weekend! Hugs, Gerrina
AI sure are fun to play with and what an amazing result you came up with. It looks fabulous! I like your quick and easy cards. So glad you got to have a very fun play day. :)
How stunning Darnell! The alcohol on vellum is gorgeous and like your CAS!
Ever so beautiful. The colors are lovely. I've got to try this technique. Can someone clean off my desk please?[Bunny]
Glitter paint?! A whole new take on this and what a difference. Good for you adding one more thing to try. The poinsettia looks so pretty. Don't let Hammy know you said he's getting older. Us old folks need our naps without being called out for it.
Glad you had so much fun playing with alcohol inks, Darnell. I wish I had mine with me. I can't believe how different the card looks from each angle. So gorgeous. Gotta love QACAS cards!
A technique I keep meaning to try but haven't taken the plunge yet. Love your results with the AI on vellum. Enjoy the visits into your mind, always something interesting going on 😀😀
Wasn't it fun?? Leave it to Coni to get us up and using our AI's right? Your addition of gold really makes your balloons more celebratory, D!
With, or without, Hammie's help you've made this sweet little Poinsettia shine, too!
Now what's this business about me paying for a hip? xx
Those inks on vellum are amazing! I love how you added the die cut to a white card. The second card is also so pretty in its simplicity.
Two beautiful makes.
Wonderful cards Darnell, beautifully designed and coloured, Kate x
Super cards Darnell you do make me chuckle LOL lots of hugs Sue x
Oooh, I LOVE the effects of your alcohol inks on your first card, Darnell...very cool! Love your CAS design on your 2nd card, too!
It's too bad I can't travel because you are one person I would love to visit...Thanks so much for playing along with us at CAS Christmas! xx
Both designs are wonderful, but those festive balloons is a winner hands down! I love all the colors you achieved by playing with the AI's! I'm glad your creativity has been sparked, cuz mine ran off somewhere and died in the dust me thinks. I'm on pause for the meantime until something ignites my fires again! LOL Hope you and the Mr are well and getting about much better these days!
Ooooh. Like what your did with your CAS Mix Up card...very festive and shiny, just like real balloons. Glad you liked playing with vellum and AIs. They're fun and simple, although, I've been known to where gloves in case I have a date that night...as if! Anyhoo, thanks so much for adding your card to the gallery.
Think Hammy did a bang up design job on the Christmas card, as well. Even if he did nod off while is was being assembles. Clean and lovely.
Two fabulous cards, Darnell - just love the AI on vellum balloons and the yummy poinsettia!!
Such shiny, glittery prettiness Darnell!!
Three fantastic cards Darnell. Haven't tried AI on vellum yet. Might have to do that. But I am here to comment on your Christmas card. Lovely little poinsettia with leaf on your oh so CAS card. Beautiful card with the gold accents. Thanks for joining us at CAS Christmas. Hugs toy you.
Your AI on vellum balloons are a gorgeous mix of colours, Dolly! LOVE the shimmer and shine. AI on vellum is very addicting ... but in a good way! :)
Wasn't it nice of Mr. Sunshine to add a mirror look to your background edging. Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!
Beautiful CAS poinsettia bloom, Dolly. Made even more beautiful with the gold shine! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Christmas! Love, Lolly
I love how you have two different looks on your vellum, depending on your angle. Very festive balloons! And such a simple and pretty poinsettia on your twofer! The gold adds extra elegance! Thanks so much for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!
How beautiful is your vellum with AI's! I so love this card!!! And, love your CAS poinsettia as well! Love how gold adds such elegance to a card!
The balloon card is so cool! Love the simplicity of the holiday card. Hope Hammy had a good nap and that you and hubby are doing better.
Big hugs, Nan and the Girls
Well, your random playing / lack of sixth sense with the AIs on vellum certainly turned out a beautiful result. I must give it a try and see if I can turn out anything decent. And your Twofer QACAS is wonderful - perfect simplicity.
Beautifully created cards! I have been wanting to try the AI on vellum and maybe once I am home again I can try, I didn't bring any crafting supplies with me this time so I am at a loss of doing anything crafty!
Ooh your balloon card is awesome! I must try that technique. The Christmas card is beautiful in its simplicity - perfect! I think your head would be a super fun place to be and a little crazy like mine! Take care. Hugs my friend. xxxxx
I love that AI card Darnell... It is very addictive and there are no mistakes which is always a good thing in my book! Very elegant twofer! Have a beautiful weekend!
Both cards Darnell are as stunning as ever so creative and simplicity love the gold strip and poinsettia enjoy your day x
Hi Darnell, Cards are lovely.
We have had changing temps from hot to cold and then to very hot. Forcast bad storms this weekend, but nothing yet.
Absolutely stunning. I love it. Have a beautiful day.
Your balloon card is so pretty and unique. The gold really adds sparkle and shine to the balloons and goes with the gold embossed sentiment. Great job with the AI and yes, they are addictive. Thanks for sharing with us at Seize the Birthday.
Your poinsettia card is very pretty also.
2 beautiful CAS cards, I love your alcohol ink one, thanks for sharing the story of how you did it. So lovely to see you in the CAS mix up gallery too xx
Two beauties Darnell and what a wonderful effect of the AI's on vellum and die cut with the balloons in a frame, some fabulous sparkle too, and then the pretty poinsettia and leaf backed by the super gold card and also a coordinating gold sentiment so elegantly CAS. x
You looked like you had so much fun Darnell and what a stunning effect on your fabulous birthday card x. Perfect CAS Christmas card and extra loving the lone leaf....Well done Hammy x.
Wow!! What an amazing outcome from you playing with AI on vellum! Whatever you did you should do it again with such a wonderful outcome! Love how different it looks from the different angles!!! Love it!! Thanks so much for sharing at Watercooler Wednesday Challenge! Stay safe! :)
Two wonderful CAS cards. Your AI on vellum is strikingly beautiful… love the font of the sentiment. Your Christmas card is simply adorable and Hammy followed the odd number design rule perfectly with the one leaf. Thank you for joining us at CAS Christmas.
Two gorgeous cards, Darnell! That first one with the AI on vellum really caught my eye and I had to come visit to see how you achieved that beautiful look!
Great cards, Darnell, and thanks for the "playing" tip -- love the two moods of that first card, such fun
Oh Auntie, your mind is a wonderful place to be me thinks! I love the look of alcohol inks on the vellum along with the shimmer paint! Your balloons look amazing cut out of it! I also love the two looks you got, the moody on way and the bright and shiny from the other way. Also love how the sun and camera caught a rainbow on your mirror card too, looks so pretty! Your twofer is beautiful too, Love your QACAS both cards are, but to elegant and beautiful both are. Well done! Hugs, Brenda
Wishing you a beautiful Monday. Have a blessed one my friend. Think of you often.
They are both gorgeous, Darnell xoxo
That poinsettia is so pretty! Love the added touch of gold to the card! Thanks so much for joining us and playing along at Addicted To Stamps & More!
Two beauties Darnell and my ears always prick up when I hear the term QACAS (and not just because I'm a fan of ducks.) I have been jealously viewing everyone's alcohol ink on vellum cards this month and have realised that I need some alcohol inks ASAP! I need the fun! Thank you for the inspiration :) Mwah! Vicky x
Two fab cards. I have that particular PTI sediment - one of my old time favs!
Love the balloons and no two would be the same.
Might just have to CASe that Christmas card looks super QAS!.
These are great, Darnell! I really love that fun balloon die & I agree--AI on vellum is really neat!
Those balloons are WOW! It doesn't even look like vellum. I wish I had your confidence when it comes to AI on vellum. The shimmery acrylic paint is the icing on the balloons! You've made a perfect QACAS Poinsettia Christmas card, too! It's just right!
Okay. I am now going to have to try that alcohol on vellum. You have talked me into it. I LOVE how these balloons came out on this card. Just breathtaking. I also am going to have to add some shimmery acrylic paint-need to check if I even have any left!! Did a purge and one of the things that went was about 100 bottles of old paint!! Made me sad but oh well.
Your Christmas card is too cute as well. I wanted to do this challenge but never got around to it. I collect all these in a folder and never can enter into all the ones I think I will be able too!!
