I Like to Party!

Hello Stamplings,

Happy Friday! I hope you had a great week! I just heard on the news this morning that hotels, airlines, and rental cars are all booking up through Labor Day weekend in September because people are so excited to be able to travel again. They don't even care where they go, they just want to go!

I'm not quite confident enough to be traveling yet, nor partying for that matter. So why did I title my post, "I Like to Party?"

Because this:
Haha, that fits most of us gals, doesn't it? I've had that NBUS sediment stamp on my desk for weeks, waiting for the right moment and when I saw the sketch challenge over at Less Is More, the ol' mojo started lighting up. I looked at Hammy and we both ran to the drawer where I keep the stamp of the becited stamping lady and wallah! Well, okay, he ran, and I rolled my chair two feet.

That crazy happy lady is called "Mad Stamper" from The Uptown Design Company and the sediment is from Impression Obsession (B13958). I made several of these as birthday cards for stamping friends.

Challenges
Twofer
This card was prompted by the current CAS Christmas challenge hosted by Christine. She has chosen Foliage and Berries for her prompt. I used a favorite wooden stamp (60-00343) from Inkadinkado. The fancy bordered panel was a gift from a friend. I colored the stamp with the direct-to-stamp technique using markers and Hammy glossified the berries.

That pp with the hollies is prolly a hunnert years old. Okay, not really, but I have had it forever and that little two-inch piece under the card is all I have left. I know there are new beautiful holly pps out there, but I'm sad to see the last of this one. The name in red says The Paper Patch and I googled it to see if it was still around, only to discover that it was a brick and mortar store in Portland, Maine that closed in July 2020 after being open for 51 years. Talk about sad.

I'll leave you with something that will bring your smile back!
This was taken through the Playhouse window, so pardon the reflection. This time every year the succulents in the window box bloom with their trumpet flowers and the wee birds prefer them over their feeder which hangs just above. This little female has been at it a lot, so I'm guessing (I hope) she has babies nearby.

~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy, but stay safe! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!
Hi Darnell,
Love the cards.
How lucky you are to have such beautiful birds. We do not have any hummingbirds here.
Hope you have a fab Friday. Sue
I can identify with both of your cards - one because that would be my idea of fun rather than travelling with the hordes and the second because it is sad when you finally use up the last of a favourite paper. Thanks for sharing the lovely bird photo.
Oh how I love that stamping gal - she is so excited, and I can understand why you and Hammy were too :).
The Christmas card is super - love how you have used the paper behind the lacy edged image panel
Stay safe
I couldn't agree more with you Darnell with the sentiment on your first card x. What a perfect stamp, waiting for the perfect moment ...You and hammy did a fabulous job x. What a beautiful Christmas card and no wonder you love that pretty paper. What a fabulous holly and berry image and I love the technique you've used to colour it x.
I suspect the shop in Maine shut after 51 years because they couldn't wait any longer for you to use up the holly sheet.....Lol xxxxx
Thanks for the smile at the end Darnell and what a wonderful sight for you from the playhouse x. Thinking of you x.
Love the crazy stamping lady- a brilliant card that made me laugh (thanks), the Christmas card is beautiful, the stamped image matched so perfectly by the holly paper. Fabulous photo of the feeding bird too- love watching all the activity from the birds at this time of year- we have nesting blue tits, robins and sparrows in the large shrub (aka 'the apartment block') just a few feet from our patio doors.
Hope you are keeping safe and well.
xx
Darnell, I'm on that eternal introverted fence. I can't wait to go somewhere see something new and have fun away from these 4 walls - until its time to go, then I just want to stay home. Love that card and sentiment perfection. Your holiday card is a beauty too...I have that stamp but not that paper...though I have something closes. Have a fab weekend. We'll be in the 90's here UGH and its one of the few times I think the west coast will be cooler.
Hi Darnell, two fabulous cards, I do like the first one, such a fun image, and your Christmas card is beautifully coloured and designed.
What a sweet photo, thank you for sharing.
We have opened quite a bit too, but we are not venturing anywhere either. Abroad travel has started, but I think that's foolish, especially as not everyone globally is vaccinated, and here in Scotland we do have this new Indian variant, though not widespread, Keep safe, Kate x
I have a partial piece of paper I've been hoarding like you. No such luck finding it out there.
Love the picture of your hummingbird. Oh my, what a great find if you were to see a nest.
Both cards are cute. Before you said that was the last piece of holly pp I thought hmm......wonder where she got that? I wanted a few pieces. Sigh! [Bunny]
Great cards, Darnell. I hope you are starting to feel a little better by now. I'm proud of you for using that paper that you so enjoyed. No regrets! But it is really sad that the store closed. I have no scrap/stamp stores near me anymore, just the box stores. Thanks for sharing your sweet hummingbird picture. So strange to see them not flying. What a lovely view for you. As for travel, I'm definitely not gung-ho about it, although my younger daughter has a trip planned this summer to meet an online friend no less. Mama's got to let them test their wings, right? Hope you have a lovely weekend. Hugs.
LOL! Love that party girls. My kind of party for sure. I am glad though I have been able to travel to see my grandkids--and their parents of course. The holly is very pretty. Count 1 more Christmas card in the stash. It is sad that that store had to close. Some businesses just could not recover from the months of shut downs. Restaurants and businesses here would be back to full service if they could just find employees. Why would people want to work when the government (you and I) is paying them not to work. UGH!
Love your pretty Christmas card. Now that is how I party - stay home and stamp, love it. That is so cute. Hope you are doing well. TFS
Your party gal looks caffeinated and ready to craft! :-) I'm looking forward to travel but do know that it will be by car. I'm definitely not ready to hop on a plane just yet. Your holiday card is beautiful. Very sad about the store.
That's my kind of party for sure! Cute card and will make any stamper laugh. A great Christmas card with the berries and foliage.
The only thing better than staying home stamping is watching the birds. Your little hummer is so cute drinking from the trumpet. I have had a few at my feeder and I get so excited. Love the cards, Darnell. Like I said before, you have some unusual stamps and I don't know how you remember them all. That lady is crazy and the sentiment is perfect for her. The holly paper is lovely peeking through that wonderful border panel.
Sue said...
Hi Darnell hope your keeping well ..love your cards and I wish we had hummingbirds here they are so tiny..have a great weekend hugs Sue x
I like that kind of party too! Great card and I also love that Christmas design. That is gorgeous!
Let's get this party started, safely. I'm leery of being "out" there too much, as well, thus my "wait and see" attitude. So cardmaking is my lifesaver...looks like yours, too. Seems you're feeling a bit better churning out fun cards like these. Love the sentiment and image on you first card and that lovely Christmas car, as well. Too bad you've used most of the pp but maybe you'll find one you like just as much.
You think that's a Mama Hummer...I'm not sure if mine are producing but they're certainly all over the place. Based on their chatter they seem very happy that Spring is here...so am I.
I love your party card, such fun and a great sentiment. Your holly is gorgeous, love the stamp and paper. What joy the bird is especially visiting so many times.
Yes so sad so many old stores closing, we have one it's been open 250 years and was taken over recently and now are online only and every one of the 124 stores to close. It was a shop we always went to in the high street. As you say so very sad, things they are changing too quickly for me I'm afraid.
Hope your recovery is going on well.
Faith x
Thanks for getting my weekend to a super start! Two fabulous cards, Darnell. The first one made me smile then laugh. 😂 It’s so unexpected and that sentiment with that image is a pair made in crafting heaven. Your Christmas card with that paper is beautiful. Another perfect pairing. Thank you for joining us at CAS Christmas.
Love your view from the Playhouse. You must get so much inspiration looking out.
My idea of partying is having someone to stamp with. I can get crazy becited when that happens! You and Hammy have done a fun job of partying on this card! Love that holly paper! At least you have a little strip to remember it by. Love that holly stamp too! Your little bird is so sweet. There's nothing better than real flowers for them to feast on. Hope you have a beciting weekend, my friend!
who on earth would want to go out into the big bad world if you could stamp all day ♥ Awesome sentiment :)
That Inkadooo berry stamp is a keeper love the design. so sad with the B+M shops all heading the way of the Dodo :(
Thanks for joining us at CAS Christmas Darnell :)
Oh that's the best ever image and sentiment! Super card Darnell. Thanks for playing at AAA Cards, hope to see you join in with future challenges too. Stay safe and keep crafting!
What a fabulous stamp and sediment that is. Love the card you made with it, so nice to have the words in a circle for a change.
Wish things were getting back to normal here. My home town is stricken with the Indian variant and we have had the highest number of cases in the UK for two weeks now - and I notice we are rising week by week despite the attempts to vaccinate over 18's. Apparently people have turned up in droves! It is very depressing but we are still taking all the precautions possible and isolating until the happy day we don't have to.
Thanks for the picture of the hummingbird - reminds me of my days over in America- oh happy days.
Hugs, Neet xx
That is a fun image Darnell with the very exuberant lady stamper and I love the sentiment too, and the holly stamp is a good'n and prettied up by the straight to stamp colouring and the ornate mat, a great gift, and also the holly pp in the background. That is the loveliest holly design paper I have seen and can see why you would use every little bit of it. I love the wonderful close up view you have of the hummer right outside your window and hope that the baby hummers get to be bigger hummers, although that is still minute..lol. x
I didn't know you were going to do another self portrait card Dolly!! I love to see you so happy and jumping for joy! :) Great sentiment.
Your foliage and berries card is so pretty. LOVE the holly stamp with the glossy berries. Beautiful and intricate frame that is so lovely with the patterned paper in the background. It is sad that so many stores are closing. Honestly, I started on-line shopping for crafts a long time ago since most of the stores had closed here.
Your little visitor looks very happy with the succulents. They must be super sweet right now. :) Love, Lolly
I'd like to travel and I'd like to party to. I got second vaccine on Friday. But at the moment I rather be in my craft room. It is still not safe enough out there. I like your funny "Mad Stamper" and the sentiment. Great card! The Christmas card is a perfect classic. Thank you for sharing lovely photo of the wee bird.
Have a great week! Hugs, Sonja
Your first card really made me laugh, Darnell! The sentiment stamp is perfect for the stamp gal image. I'm sure you and Hammy are great hosts.:-D
The foliage and berries card is so pretty! The fancy edges and the classic holiday pp show off the holly and shiny berries. Thank you so much for sharing this beauty with us at CAS Christmas!
I hope that you'll see baby birds in the near future.
Yes, that's my idea of a party, too. What a fun and cute card! I remember this mad stamping lady image from the Addicted to Rubber Stamps website from years ago when we got our first PC. They used it as a logo. I still have a lot of the stamps I bought from that site. It was the start of something big! Love your old Inkadinkado holly. There's another memory. They sure made some beautiful stamps. I'm sure you'll still get a card or two from that pretty paper. It is sad that 2020 brought about the demise of so many businesses. Rich and I are hoping for a road trip later this summer, but no crowds for us. Also, thank you for sharing such a sweet photo from your garden. You have a nice view from your window!
Your party card is just too funny. And you're right, that IS how we like to party. Love your Christmas card, too. It's lovely in its simplicity. I can see why you're sad to be at the end of that holly DSP. It's classic!
Linby said...
I'll join you at that party lol! It's a great card. Your second card is just amazing and I want that stamp!!! Imagine a store being open for 51 years and you miss it by a year of closing, so sad in so many ways.
HilaryJane said...
These are two really great cards and yes, I agree the sentiment on your first card is perfect. If I am honest, I have never liked to party and now I have discovered stamping I am happy! We have just been away for a few days on a trip to a B&B that was rebooked after being cancelled last year. Coincidentally it was the day they were allowed to open again, so it felt very strange, but as we were the only guests, it also felt very safe. I am glad we went, it was good for us. You must wait until you are ready to venture further afield and in the meantime keep those cards coming. Thanks too for sharing the photo of that tiny bird appreciating your flowers, love it xx
Oh YES!!!, Let's Party... my sort of Party - actually that's how my whole stamping obsession came about- going to a party with the demo lady showing you that amazing gold embossing - way back 28 years - my how times have changed and so much fun still continues. LOVE your card Darnell, she's a real hoot and a gorgeous Christmas card too. So special to have the birds so close - just wonderful - our bird feeder is way down the back. Hugs and take care Robyn
Such a fun card, Darnell, and it fits perfectly our sketch ! This sentiment made me laugh because it is so true. I totally agree with you, it is exactly how I feel at the moment, I'm not confident enough to travel again. Beautiful Christmas card too and I especially love the beautiful lace border you used to frame the oldy but goodie stamp. Lucky you are to have such a view by your Playhouse window, from mine I can see magpies, turtledoves, chickadees and sparrows but no hummingbirds. And it's better than nothing. Thanks so much for sharing and for playing along at Less is More. x
Wow--closed after 51 years! Let's hope they wanted to retire & not were forced out by Covid. Love the holly card--great design! The first card is such a kick & the sentiment is for me! So great you can watch hummers from the Playhouse. I finally tried a feeder again, but gave up with only 2 sightings in a month. Love seeing them in the wild as Fritz & I walk. One spent quite awhile in the raspberry bush blooms right along the bike path.
