Chocolate and Purple

Hello Stamplings!

My heart goes out to those of you suffering from record-breaking cold temps with a topping of snow and ice. Please stay in and stay well! And Happy Valentine's Day! I'm sure some of you are finding ways to keep warm!💋

If you're reading this, you are prolly into cards and very thankful to have this craft to immerse yourself into. That is, if you can ignore screaming kids and husbands on the other side of the craft room door. I have a friend who used to make loud sobbing noises when that happened and suddenly everyone left her alone!😂

Warning: Look away if you are on a diet, this card is gonna make you want to be bad!
As many of you know, the Less is More challenge is one of the first challenges I entered when I first started blogging and I learned so much over the years from them. This month they are celebrating their TENTH blogabirthary!! Congratulations, LIM, and thank you for all the years of creating stimulating, inspiring, and fun challenges for us. To celebrate, they have chosen the awesome prompt of chocolate, perfect for February!

For my card, I created a QACAS and amusing design. I used an old NBUS stamp set from Lawn Fawn called "Treat Yourself." The sediment is from River City Rubberstamps. Of course, I matted the panel to a matching milk chocolate card base.

Twofer
Another QACAS design. This Valentine's Day card is for YOU. I had a leftover snippet of alcoholic glossy paper in my stash inked in purples and blues, so I cut the lil' inker loopy love word die from that. It's all shiny irl. The solid and pp hearts are also cut from snippets and arranged by Hammy.

I used an MFT rectangle stitch for the front panel and then I used a NBUS MFT die called "Stitched Strips" to make the diagonal stitches running across the middle. By that I mean that each line is not cut individually, but the die consists of all those lines together as one. I really didn't know what to do with this die after I bought it (cough) years ago, but I finally saw Jules use it on a card and the light bulb went off in my head! It only took me another year to use it, but thank you, Jules, for managing to light up my dim bulb!

A Little Help Here

Dreamstime
So ... this happened.

Last week I got an email from the owner of a challenge congratulating me on receiving recognition for a card I had entered. As I always do, I left a thank you on the challenge blog, and then I went to a tab on my side bar called "Recognition," which is a page that lists every recognition I have ever won in nine years of blogging and entering challenges. I entered the date and link to the challenge blog, along with a small photo of the card and a small photo of the badge. Please forgive me tooting my own horn, but there were lots of listings on the page over nine years.

Minutes later I received an email from Blogger saying that my "page entitled 'Recognition' was flagged for malware or virus and as a result the page has been deleted."

Period. Kaput. Gone.

No information was given as to what prompted the flag, or how I could remove whatever prompted the flag, or how to file an appeal. I know it is a free service to us, but where's the service part?

After the blood came back to my head, I starting trying to figure it out. I assumed the offender was the challenge badge or link I had just added ... or maybe that was just a coincidence? How was I to know? But, wait, that particular challenge is also a Blogger blog, so if the challenge is still there and the winner's badge is still up on their side bar, then they must not be the cause of the flag. After all, it wouldn't be fair to only take down my page when all I did was a copy and paste.

I went to Blogger Forum and spent two hours trying to find any information on this subject. I finally started my own question to ask if there was anything I could do to get my page back, but all I've heard so far has been crickets.

All the discussion on the Forum about deletions is about people having their blogs suddenly deleted, which is, of course, much, much worse, but I still feel very sad that I lost my entire page of every recognition. (And don't you find it ironic that Google's blogger help forum is stunningly unhelpful and nearly impossible to maneuver in terms of subject matter?)

So what do I do? Stop playing in challenges because of the links? Stop adding badges and hope the challenges understand, even though I'm not sure that is the problem?

I'm not worried about my computer because we have virus and malware protection. Wouldn't you think
Blogger, which is run by Google, would have the same level of software, if not way better, to protect them from any viruses or malware that this old grandmother blogger might innocently download??

If you have any ideas as to why this happened or how any of us might protect ourselves from this happening in the future, I'd love to hear from you.

And if you suddenly stop seeing my blog ... .😖😢

Actually, unless Blogger can override it, I could always bring the blog back via a backup, if I were backing it up, which I haven't been. So all this has reminded me how important backing up your blog is. I've now backed mine up! To make a backup, go to your dashboard and click on settings. Scroll down and you will find "manage blog" and you will see "backup content."

~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy and keep safe! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by so I can be sure and return the flavor!💕
Two super cards as always - love the words on the ice cream one. Strange about your recognition page disappearing - seems there isn't much chance of recovering it, what a shame.
Fabulous cards Darnell - love that Hammy had a hand in designing the second one!
So sorry to hear about your page disappearing - and yes, I know how unhelpful blogger help pages can be!! My son in law is a better source of information :)
I could not link to facebook, or properly use my IG account a couple of years ago thanks to some anonymous 'inappropriate content' report, so I 'invented' a new profile for both, but still could not link my blog to f/b. I finally got action from f.b and they reinstated my ability to link... so frustrating!
Stay safe
Blogger help is def not helpful, sorry to hear that your page has disappeared into the ether. I've been trying to get to the bottom of why this blue reminder - You have unloaded items which will be lost - keeps popping up when I try to leave my blog editor after trying unsuccessfully to download a pic! It only disappears after many many clicks, even re appearing on other page edits.
Rant over - fab cards by the way! :)
That ice-cream card - precious. Such a fun sentiment. I love it!
Oooh, not good loosing your winning summary page, hopefully someone has a clever solution...
Two lovely cards Darnell but the ice cream one is definitely for me! the stitching on your 'love 'card is a bit different....what a palaver you've had with your recognition page disappearing ...something obviously doesn't seem right...hopefully you can sort out the mystery.
Yup, now I'm craving some chocolate ice cream. LOL Terrific cards, Darnell. I like the pretty colors on the second one. Oh my goodness, I am so very sorry that your page of recognition. I have no solutions just feeling terrible that it happened. I hope you are able to find a reason or a remedy. Hugs.
great cards Darnell...especially the ice cream one, a great CAS card. Sorry to hear about your page going AWOL...very annoying and even more so that you are helpless to do anything about it..I hope you do get to the bottom of it eventually. Hugs xx
Love the ice cream card!! I can't believe that Blogger would offer you no assistance in regard to your problem. I've heard a lot of complaints since they swithed it up last year.
Busted! I confess. I did have a bit of coffee ice cream the other night. It was calling to me so loud that I couldn't help myself. LOL! A perfect card! Love that diagonal stitching and pink and blue from your leftover AI piece! Would have been a shame to waste that! I'm still scratching my head about your Blogger issue. It's scary to think how easily they can take something away from our blogs!
I'm so sorry to hear you lost that page. How annoying and to make matters worse........no one gets back to you. I totally understand that. Some guy hacked my friend and I had her on my blog as an administrator to help me out when I first started and that meant he hacked mine. Now, my blog had my name all over it with MY cards and blogger wanted me to prove that it was my blog.....Um..really? I lodged complaint after complaint. The guy was a known hacker. I begged blogger to at least delete the old blog and it took them 7 years to delete it. [Bunny]
Two fantastic cards Darnell. Sorry to hear about your problems I've had problems visiting some blogs, where it tells me they are malicious and Norton stops me, then all of a suddden it allows me to visit again. As far as I know nothing has changed with the blogs.
I laughed when I saw your card. But was sad to read about your blogger issues. I went back to your first posts. I didn't realize you've been card-making since 2002, and blogging since 2011. Wow! Your's was one of the very first blogs I followed. We all know how talented you are, in so many varied ways. You'll soon have a new collection of recognitions.
Stay well.
Hi there Darnell, loving your two cards, fabulous designs and colours.
Can't help with your recognition page problem, blogger sometimes is a complete mystery to me. I hope you can retrieve it eventually, Kate x
Well as usual you have created two fantastic card designs. Yummmy ice cream really made me laugh about licking the spoon. So sorry about your recognition blog post and I am no help at all to assist you in retrieving it.
So sorry to hear of your issues with Blogger. I have read the other horror stories too and while I don't have help for the specific page lost, I did see a suggestion to back up our entire blogs to our desktop (or wherever) and I have done that to mine so if anything happens I have everything saved to create a new blog or whatever is needed (I think?) I am going to do this every so often. Perhaps you know how, but in case not: Go to Settings in Blogger, down to Manage Account, and pick Back Up. Mine did it fairly quickly and is now on my desktop.
Fun cards, and the first one is definitely for my husband! He gets an urge for ice cream and eats from the container so I just let him eat the whole thing. I buy flavors for me that he doesn't like to avoid this problem LOL The 2nd card is so pretty with those wild orchid colors! Just beautiful!
As for your blogger issues all I can say is blogger has become increasingly picky! I seriously doubt your page was removed for malware that clearly doesn't exist! Your anti-virus would have picked that up immediately! I don't get it at all and I'm sorry you had to go through this.
Carol L said...
Oops! I forgot to wish you a happy Valentine's day! Much love coming your way!
I love your ice cream card, so beautifully simple that says it all. Love the stitching on your Valentine card too. As for Blogger, what can I say, they tell us they are changing everything, without us complaining and then won't help when everything goes wrong. So sorry I can't help Darnell.
Love that ice cream card and sentiment--so me, at least when I was a kid. Your purple heart card shows that we don't have to ony use pink/red for Valentines. Lovely card. I too am having blogger woes. I get that malware message when I am trying to upload to some linky addresses. And sometimes when I am trying to copy a picture to my blog from someone else's challenge blog. UGH! Technology is great when it works. Otherwise bleah! Definitely going to go do backup right now.
Google is a stinker (insert any expletive you deem appropriate). For goodness sake...how could that happen. I know they've made changes but to delete an whole page of your blog seems pretty darn harsh. And then to make it impossible to find out why is ridiculous. Makes me want to move to Word Press, as if I'd even know how to manage that...NOT!
Despite the disaster, I see you made two really lovely CAS cards. Love the ice cream card...that's what I do...lick it all over so Steve won't eat it.
Two awesome cards and so clean and simple - Hammy - you did a great job in helping. I have been on an ice cream kick - chocolate marshmallow - yes I have my own half gallon!!! Hubby doesn't like it. So sorry about your experience with blogger. I don't do much on blogger except to post cards. Have a great Happy Valentines Day -
loved your ice cream card, need to keep that in mind :) and also all those stitched line are awesome on your second card.
Blogger baffles me, luckily I haven't touched my awards page in a long time, might just leave it till I know what's going on. Seems like Bonnie had the same problem :(
Just love your fun cards Darnell, especially the ice cream one! All my family know they can't put ice cream in the freezer and expect to see it again...!
I'm so, so sorry to hear your recognition page has been deleted. These things are controlled by bots so it won't have been done with malice. I suspect it has something to do with the fact that there won't have been much text but lots of links - the bot will be programmed to mark that as suspicious. This is why I don't want to live in a world where AI becomes the norm!!
Sending hugs, Vicky x
Just dropped by to chuckle at your chocolate ice cream card, in this weather! Guessing it is worse there than here & I'm cold. Then read about your lost page, the mysteries of malware have baffled people down the ages, one day it is next day it isn't! To remove your page without warning is down right rude, But it might just re-appear you can never tell with Blogger. Backups sound advice thank you. Stay Safe, Keep Well and Have Fun I'm off to hug a radiator. x
Two fabulous card, Darnell. How frustrating that you've lost your recognition page. I've had a problem this week with linking my blog to a Facebook page. Having recently joined a group of designers on a Facebook page, I was asked to include the link to my blog. When I typed my blog address into a comment, it wouldn't let me post the link, something about my link being spam and inappropriate. 🙄 I've no idea how to fix it. I'm now wondering if it's something to do with my 'recognitions' page. xx
Susan said...
Well I read your post and rushed off and backed up my blog right away! I'd hate to lose it all. Thanks for the hint. I'm so sorry you lost your recognition page. I stopped adding the badges to my recognition page as I had trouble with one of them once (but didn't lose my page) so I just add a photo of my card, the challenge it was recognized for, and the link to that challenge.
Laughed at your first card and enjoyed the purples and blues of the second - I need to remember that not all Valentines need to be red or pink! Happy Valentine's Day to you, Hammy, and the Mister - may there be chocolate in your day!
Lindsey said...
Mmm, chocolate - and mmm, delightful chocolate-themed card! The valentine is beautiful, and the added stitching is fun. Thanks for sharing it at Happy Little Stampers for the CAS Challenge! I'm glad you were still willing to play after having your page go POOF. How incredibly annoying!
Have a nice Valentine's Day, Darnell!!
Unfortunately, lockdown is not kind to us and is much more to me than a year ago. But I don't look away from your first card because chocolate ice cream is my favorite. Oh, I would eat ... Fortunately, all stores in Poland are closed on Sunday and I can only feel the taste of this ice cream virtually ;-)
The second card is beautiful, all the more so because the place of the cut by sewing is selected perfectly. No wonder it took you several years to set the die so precisely. But what a stunning end result !! It couldn't be better to designate this place. It's understandable that it had to take a while :-) I have a few dies for which I'm still working out the exact position on the card, so I understand you perfectly :-)
Safety and health, my darling Darnell.
hugs, BożenA
That is horrible Darnell!!! I didn't know there was a way to back up my blog so thank you so much for that bit of information. I can only imagine how you must feel. :-( On a lighter note....THANK YOU so much for the shoutout!! I'm feeling slightly famous....like I should put your badge on my blog...and then back it up, of course. Ha! Seriously though, I'm so happy you were inspired and I appreciate the mention.
Two fun and terrific cards, though I'm a little biased by the ice cream because that is MY trick - jk but don't think I don't think about it!
As for blogger, how frustrating! Not the first frustration from blogger but hopefully no more! As for the back-up, if it is done prior to the deletion, it would seem that you could restore not only the whole blog but the page as well. How to do it? I'm not THAT techie but I would bet someone knows from experience...
I am so sorry that you lost your page, Blogger can sure be frustrating at times - it often does not even let me in to view blogs. I have not had any issues like you have, but I don't really enter challenges very often and now feel reluctant to do so. I do hope you get it resolved....
Two great cards, the ice cream does look tempting but it is a little late now to raid the fridge! I really like the stitching on the second card.
We are going from freezing this week to near tropical weather next weekend (well not really tropical but in the 60's). Keep safe and well my friend. Hugs, Annie xxx
Well... you had me with the chocolate ice-cream. Breyers chocolate is my favorite! Two terrific CAS cards. Wow, blogger needs to step things up in the help department. This is crazy. You should have been contacted first to let you know this was going to happen and why. So sorry.
Super cute cards! Blogger should have at least contacted you. How sad. And so glad your blog is still there. I don't know that I have ever backed up my blog. Off to check it out.
You're right--that ice cream made me want some. I'm an ice creamaholic, so I have a problem with the creamy, frozen stuff. I may need to start attending ICA (Ice Creamaholics Anonymous) again. I love the happy colors of your second card and the sentimental theme. The stitched lines remind me of lives sewn together with love.
Karenladd said...
That sound of running feet must be all the bloggers running off to back up their blogs. I had no idea that was even possible, or that was yet another thing to worry about. However, your cautionary tale is of value to me at the very least. How frustrating to suddenly lose your recognition page. I wonder if there is a way to restore it through blogger? I think I read that you can restore your entire blog if you delete it (within a certain time period that is). Maybe it would work to restore that part that disappeared. On the other hand, it could also cause your entire blog to disappear, and that would be a disaster.
Anyway, I'll stop speaking of sad things and gaze lovingly at your sweet ice cream card instead. Love the little shadows that you added beneath the carton and lid. That stitched wavy line die is certainly unique, and I found myself staring at it from different angles, trying to imagine ways to use it. It makes a nice, subtle backdrop for your "alcoholic" sentiment for sure.
Sue said...
Hi Darnerll, Love the card. I also love ice cream:) LOL
That is so annoying about your page being removed. Amazon did something similar when they said I had broken a rule (wouldn't tell me which one) when reviewing a product. They took all my reviews down and I cannot now leave a review. I emailed them a second time, to have the same answer come back and also stating they would not entertain any more emails about it.
Well I hope you have a good week. Sue
Great cards, Darnell!
Luckily, to this point Blogger has been good to me, but the same can't be said for WordPress, who, a few years ago, deleted ALL my content from one of my blogs... then told me there was no way they could restore it. Grr!
HilaryJane said...
Oh no, how upsetting and infuriating to have lost that page and all the info. I know exactly how you must be feeling. You take the time to put your recognition there in order to keep a record and then for it to disappear with no warning is just shocking. I am so sorry. I have tried using blogger help before and found it confusing and frustrating and very time wasting, usually when you don't really have time. Love the card though xx
Leslie Miller said...
I so love a humorous card and you've got some great stamps for it! Anytime is a good time to send a smile, no matter the occasion. Those stitches are fabulous on your love card! That's kind of crazy that Blogger deleted your whole page. I'm not sure why that would be. Seems like blogs and pages would be getting deleted willy nilly all over the place. I'd never backed up my blog, either, but I just now did. Not sure what I'd do with it if anything happened. I'm sure sorry that all your efforts were just wiped out like that. There must have been a lot of content, considering all the challenges you support.
Two fantastic cards as always, Darnell. I like CAS chocolate ice cream card very much. Perfectly done. Your Valentine card is stunning with purple hearts. I like a stitched background. I love that chocolate ice cream Darnell, perfect for the LIM Challenge and a fun sentiment to go with it, and then the pretty AI heart with the two purple ones and a fun die with the stitched lines and the love finishes it beautifully. So sorry to hear about the way your Recognition page was just deleted without any warning most unfair and can understand how you would feel with all that information just gone! Thanks for the heads up about backing everything up, the only problem is the amount of space it will take up on the computer, I suppose it could be downloaded on to a memory card. x
It is the ice that is so bad, of course snow is too especially if you live in an area that isn't used to having snow! A friend of mine in VA is without heat/electric since Friday because everything got encased in ice. We have rain right now, but they have really salted the roads for the ice for tonight. Hopefully we will dodge the bullet but we will see. My prayers go to those without electric and all of those in the path of these storms which is a lot of people! This storm could even spawning tornado's. Not good.
OMGosh, I so wanted ice cream so badly tonight! Then I come here and see this card and now I want it even more. lol I haven't had any ice cream since the fall, I won't buy it because I don't want a whole container around. lol Now I wish I would have bought some! Love this card, it is too cute and very CAS. I think I have this stamp set and have never used it. I know, years of NBUS is awaiting me to use. This reminds me of the pot holders I made at Christmas. lol Love the purple card too, such a fab stitched die background. Glad you finally used it as it is so cool. The "love" is beautiful in those colors and I love the hearts in the corner.
OMWord! I can't believe that happened to you Auntie! I guess it's a good thing I don't win things to often because I would surely screw it up! lol I just don't get it, how putting a recognition badge on your side bar would be flagged for malware or virus. Then to delete the page on top of it is just bad! I can't even imagine how to even go about fixing it or even getting any response from Google. It seems that they are never there to help. I have no help as this is way to techie for me. I sure hope you hear something back or someone knows something and you can get that page back. I'm sure there were lots of recognition badges that you would love to have back! Didn't know that you could download and back up your blog either. Good to know! Wishing you luck Auntie!! Hugs, Brenda
First off, lovely lovely cards. I especially love the stitching on the love card.
There must be something going on with the badges. I know lately I have had some trouble copying and pasting them to blogger. They just show up as blanks. The only way I've found around it is to save the badge as an image and then add it as you would a photograph. NOw I worry about malware attached to the badge. Hell...does google have to futz around with all our fun. Pretty soon we'll all be over at IG and not blogging anymore. I am so sorry you lost years of recognition reminders. Hugs.
