MIM #121; MM #67; NBUS #9 ~ Colored Vellum Christmas

Surprise!

I had a little extra time to make a card which I can schedule for a Saturday delivery!

On Make It Monday (MIM), hosted by the talented Nichole Heady, we were treated to a wonderful video by Betsy Veldman on creating colored vellum flowers.  You will love this video and the stunning card Betsy created with an open lattice front.  WOW!  I love the look of vellum and the fun of coloring on vellum, so I was anxious to play along.

The thing was, I also wanted to play in the Merry Monday challenge this week, where the extraordinary Lesley presented one of the coolest sketches ever!
The movement on this sketch is sOoOo fun!

This is my first year making Christmas cards this early in the year and participating in Merry Monday and even at that, I'm still starting six months later than I had hoped.  I used to think, nah, can't do it, can't make Christmas cards in the summer.  But then at the end of last year, after making nothing but Christmas cards for weeks on end, I decided to change it up this year.  Making them all during the year, when it's not "expected" is heckamaze fun actually!  There's no pressure.

I checked my Christmas stamps and was surprised that I don't have a pointed setia plant stamp.  That would have made a perfect colored vellum Christmas flower, ahem, but since I don't have one, I chose to make a colored vellum holly wreath.  It's not prezactly a flower, but it is a plant ...
I heat embossed the image in white on vellum and die-cut the circle.  I colored it with markers and added MS red glitter to the bow.  I die-cut the red circle and glued the vellum to it, just around the edge, and then gluing that, just around the edge, I attached it to the card front.  Then out popped the weasel.

We are sposed to use at least one Papertrey Ink product in the MIM challenges and today only one is what I used ~ the "pinefeather" ink.  The sediment placement differs from the sketch, but it fit just perfectly in the slope of the sparkly red snow-covered hill.

This card is so Christmas bright!  If I had nothing but time, I would make one for everyone because IRL, children, this card is a love song to the world!!

~~~
Our newest friend to join our cray-azy journey is Ms. Julie Ann Lee of Magpie Heaven.  Julie Ann is very new to Blogstown and she would love it so much if you would pop over for a visit.  Thank you, Julie Ann, and welcome to this fun, addicting, and warm community!!
Enjoy your day!  No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS*!  Special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!
Beautiful, glittery, and love the design! Your parting words about making one for everyone reminded me of the old Coke commercial song, "I'd like to buy the world a Coke..." Then I looked back at that red/white bottom of your card and had to laugh!
Hi Dolly! Gorgeous! Haven't tried coloring vellum with markers and will have to give it a try. Love the softness of the colored holly wreath. So pretty and you did an amazing job with the sketch. Thanks for the link to the tutorial. Lolly xx
I love your holly jolly card. I plan to make one of these colored vellum cards - IF I can find a flower stamp at all.
I love vellum too and sparkle! It's always such a pity that you can't see it in all its glory in a photo, but you've captured it really well. A lovely card design. I do admire you making your Christmas cards this way without all the pressure and that feeling of 'if I see another reindeer I'll...' Thanks for being so welcoming to me! Julie Ann xxx
Oh now that's a beauty, me likey, well, you know me and Christmas! It's good to get the cards done early too, next challenge is getting them written out early and actually posted on time! You mentioned stick shifts yesterday... there's four of them in my house. Well, not prezactly in the house you understand cause cars don't live in the house, but I point blank refuse to drive anything else. Even in Michigan, even with 12" of snow on the road, even in the ice. And when people ask me if I drive a stick, my answer is always "what other kind is there?"!!
Hot and oomid here this weekend, yukkity yuk, might have to come in and make a card later. Have a good 'un.
Hugs
Brenda
This is such a gorgeous card Dippy - you've inspired me to dig out my vellum! Totally agree about the placing of the sediment - perfect.
It IS a love song to the world! Love the wreath with it's glitter bow and the shimmery circle around it! The sediment is perfect exactly where it is and I love the red and green gems! Thanks so much for sharing the joy with us at Merry Monday!
Too hot to think about Christmas cards, but I do understand the risk I am taking not doing any, lol. BYTW, my printer is a HP officejet all-in-one and is over 10 years old. Sill going strong with light cs unless I put it in the back where it'll take SU's WW, but not MFP. I'll get another HP when this one goes.
A complete delight, Darnell ... the delicacy of the wreath is beautifully complemented by all that wonderful glittery red ... I love the sentiment and how it nestles perfectly in the curve of the snowy hill! Anita :)
Darnell - thank you for your comments on my little 'travel-type' cards, and especially your concerns over our town's flooding. It's been quite the ride - and more to come, I'm sure (I sent you a note).
Your card and post are ever so spirit-lifting! Love the embossing/colouring on vellum (I'm inspired to try another flirt with EP) and the red sparkle is festively fantastic! Outstandingly, eye-catchingly pretty (I'm making up adverbs!). Love it!
