CASology 38, Photos Cards, and Gramma Elbows

Whoosh!  And we're back around to Friday!
My friend Margie, at work, asked me to make her some cards that she could send to an organization similar to "Operation Write Home."  I quickly put some cards together, as I have done in the past for such organizations, using photos.  I keep a box of my photos on hand for this purpose and I thought you might be inspired to do the same.  Not only is it easy, it's a great way to make a card that brings enjoyment to the worthy recipient, no matter the gender.
In putting the cards together, I realized that this first card might be eligible to play in the always delectious challenge at CASology.  This week the cue card is "Up."

And the sponsor is the fabulous Lawn Fawn!

And here is my photo card:

It is a photo of a vintage light fixture.  If you are ever in the town of Columbia, California (an old mining town and California State Park in the foothills of the Sierras), you will want to make a stop at the saloon on Main Street, where I took this picture, to quench your thirst with a beer or a sarsaparilla.  Refreshed, right down the street you can pan for real gold!  The twins love going there, and so did DS before them.
Where was I?  Oh, yes.  The card's focus pocus is the ceiling light, which is UP, and nothing can be simpler than a photo card, but there's not a lot of white space, so it might be illegible.  It's beautiful though, isn't it?  We get pretty excited about "old-timey" things over here in the States, where our "old-timey" is pretty young compared to our worldwide friends!
~~~
Here are a few other cards I made for Margie from photos I've taken:
This squirrel was loving our visit to our friends' cabin after we filled the BIRD house with peanuts!
Did you notice my use of fun peanut patterned paper on that one!
~~~
~~~
And to start your weekend off with a giggle if you personally represent "old-timey," or think you might ever live long enough to have that privilege, here's a funny.  I hope you can click on it and read it.  If I use the "larger" feature, it runs over the margin.  Not surprisingly, my resident head hamster gets all twitchy at the thought of that.
~~~
Enjoy your day!  No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS*!
One day your elbows are perfectly taut,
the next day, they're not.
I wrote that.  Thank you so much for stopping by the Playhouse. Special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment or join as a follower!

Well Darnell, as old timey things go that is a fabulous picture of the lamp. The other photos are equally good and I did notice the peanut paper - genius idea again! I checked out my elbows and they seem to be OK - at the moment...... LITS to you too. Hugs, Annie xx

Thanks for the inspiration!! I have taken photos and run them through the cuttlebug with embossing folders for a really fun look! Also a huge fan of "Pickles", probably because it hits so dang close to home!! :)

Photo cards--what an incredible idea, and I just love yours. That comic is funny--I saw it in the paper, and identified just a bit too much with those elbows.

Gorgeous photo cards, and gramma's elbows is cute too. The only thing I'd do different is bury my head into a half-gallon of ice cream......what good would a pint do?!?! :D

Oh Darnell, besides being an awesome, wild and crazy card maker you are also photogenetically talented too!

Great idea to use a photo for the card. I have tons of pics that our daughter took - perfect way to share them with others.

Great cartoon clip. I am heading to the freezer the second after I hit the send button to scoop me a bowl of Golden Nut Sundae ice cream.

Love the idea of photo cards - so simple to add a matching coloured frame and viola (as you would say) you're done. Assuming you have beautiful photos to begin with, which you clearly have in abundance! Another talent! Thanks so much for playing along with us at CASology this week!

What a fabulous way to showcase your photos, Darnell! I always think it's sad that most of my photos never leave my computer. Maybe I need to give this a try...

Gasp gasp ... that's the sound of my amazement at your photographic talent ... stunning pictures and cards, Darnell! Also chuckle chuckle ... are gramma's elbows the same as bingo wings, or is that another age related affliction?? Either way, I'm with Shirley, ice cream is such a healer! Anita :)

You mean I have Grandma elbows in addition to Grandma hands? That's what one of my granddaughter's said as she sat on my lap and fondled my hands.

I have done a number of photo cards but never thought of entering them in a challenge. I guess I assumed all cards had to be cut images and/or stamped.

Elbows and arm jiggle...it's tough getting older! I love the photo cards, and the vintage lamp is a great "UP" image! I'll bet that card will really light up the room! (Ha ha!) Thanks for joining us at CASology again this week!

What a cutie that squirrel is. I have a pack rat in my bird feeder. He is a desert pack rat so much cuter than you imagine when you hear the words 'pack rat' but still... I'd rather not have him around, especially if he is a she and plans to reproduce.

Grandma elbows is funny. I'm working flying squirrel flaps myself.
