Freshly Made Sketches #32

Happy Friday!

This week's great sketch at Freshly Made Sketches is by Linda.

There are so many wonderful entries already linked up!  I went with a new baby card for my take on the sketch:

It's almost too bright out today to take pictures!  (An observation, not a complaint!)

You might notice there was not a lot of stamping involved in making this card.  (Does that mean I made an "outside the box" card?!)  In fact, you might think there was no stamping, but it wasn't none exactly.  I spose I shouldn't say anything about it, because now you'll LOOK, and see the imperfections.  Oh, heck, that's okay ... it turns out I have diaper pins that are yellow, green, lavender, and blue.  Since I wanted them to match my monochromatic schematic, I stamped them with some VersaMagic Sea Breeze ink.  Then I hit them with the heat gun, they rolled over dry, and I was quite tickled.  I've seen other crafty ladies change the color of their brads this way, so the thought is not original.  The fact that I remembered the trick is pretty original, however!

And before anyone else says it, let me just say that I do realize using diaper pins on my card reaffirms that the nurse correctly called me an old lady.  Even if you don't normally comment on people's blogs, take a sec and just say if you have ever seen a diaper pin outside of an antique store!  (You don't even have to lie and say you like the card if you don't, honest!)  I hope I get a lot of young people saying they don't know what I'm talking about.  I love seeing young people enjoying this amazing hobby.

We've got the twins over the weekend so you might not see me until later Sunday or Monday.  I'm back to feeling abnormal, which is awesome since that's my normal, and I sincerely thank you for all your good wishes over the last few days!

Also, please help me welcome Kara Lynne as a new follower.  Kara Lynne is a brand new blogger and new participant in challenges and already one of her cards won two out of the three challenges she entered!  I'd say we should all be checking her out!

Please enjoy ~ and, as always, thank you for stopping by to visit.   Special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower or leave a comment!

Very cute card and take on the sketch! I love the diaper pens although I didn't use them on my kids I do know what they are lol. BTW I looove your playhouse. So cute and organized. Oh and thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment and yes I am done with my Father's and Mother's day cards. I may need to make a graduation card or two.

What a great take on the sketch, Darnell! We're contemporaries so I know all about diaper pins and have the scars to prove it! I have to admit, though, that I'm glad for tabs now.

Funny, but you're right. No one uses them anymore (but my mom did with my 3 sisters, so I do remember them). BUT did you notice how pretty much every baby set includes a diaper pin? Weird!

This is adorable! My aunt used to change her babies on the couch when I was little and there were always diaper pins sticking out of the top of the couch - that's where she stored them :)

What a sweet and adorable baby card! Diaper pins?? My mother tried cloth diapers and pins with one of my brothers that I remember, but it didn't last long! LOL! Can't say I've seen one since...the cloth diapers these days use velcro and I have some of those! :)

This is a very cute card Darnell. I love your idea to colour the baby pins. I have kids 25 and 22 and I always used nappy pins when they were babies. I also have kids 10 and 7 and I gladly ditched those cloth nappies for disposable ones. I use nappy pins when I knit sometimes though as stitch holders.
Anyway it's a great take on the sketch. Glad you could play along with us this week.

In my neck of the woods we call those baby pins, so I know exactly what you are talking about! And I think this card is too sweet. I've got a baby shower to attend in June so I think this is going in my CASE file (with your permission, of course). Thanks for sharing this with us at Freshly Made Sketches!

Such a sweet card! I love the pins! If we can have children, God willing, we intend to use cloth nappies although they don't seem to use pins anymore.
PS I'm a youngster at 25!

I do know what diaper pins are although have not had occasion to use them (or any diaper accessories actually...). Funnily enough one of the first cards I ever made was a diaper with a diaper pin!

Lol, you make me laugh, you make perfectly embellished, beautiful cards and here you are, over at mine, complaining that you over-embellish. You don't my friend, you don't! And despite the fact that I'm incredibly young, I do know what diaper pins are, and I must be young because I've never had a nurse call me an old lady!!

Hugs
Brenda

I discovered your blog after you left a lovely comment on one of my blog posts. Can I say I love your cards and just as much, I love your writing - so offbeat and funny! And yes, I've heard of diaper pins, but fortunately disposables were available when I had my kids, who are now 9 and 14, although I do remember my mother using cloth diapers and pins on my younger sisters. Cheers Karren

Super card! I love your take on the sketch. here's what I have to say about the diaper pin. 23 years ago I used cloth diapers for my oldest daughter. A rarity, but still available. There were still diaper services & I rec'd two free weeks as a gift. About 5 years before that (28 years ago) my sister used cloth diapers b/c the disposable quality was poor- leaky, lumpy, smelly & very expensive. Guess the saying "you've come a long way, baby" fits here!

Congratulations on being chosen as a princess at Freshly Made Sketches ~ such a SWEET card! Unfortunately I am old enough to have used diaper pins, actually at the hospital I worked at!

Your post made me laugh Darnell! And just for the record, I have seen diaper pins (or nappy pins as we called them). I used them for my kids who are now almost 14 and 16.
Loved your card too, that little baby is so cute! Congrats on being a Princess over at FMS :)
