A site for my handmade cards, accompanied by my photos and written meanderings which are occasionally witty, often tongue-in-cheek, and rarely profound. Beginning in June 2013, you'll also see lots of NBUS, which is an acronym I coined for Never-Before-Used-Schtuff. Note: my Privacy Policy can be found at a tab below and you can find my NBUS Challenge online. I hope you'll join in the fun there! Thanks for coming by! Have a beverage and enjoy!

NBUS Challenge #12 ~ Day Eight!

Hello, Stamplings!

Welcome to October 1st! And welcome to Day Eight of our ten-day challenge to USE NBUS! For all the details on the history, rules, and prizes, please go here. If you have a card to enter today, the linky tool is below!

Just like this year, this NBUS challenge seems to be going by too fast! Today I have a coupla cards for you and a recipe. You might say the sediments on these cards are updated versions of "Old Wives Tales!"
On a light pink card base (which  looks jaundiced on my monitor!), I stamped one of the "My Ladies" stamps from Stamps By Judith. Thankfully, Judith is still in business along with her daughter! I colored this zany chef with my Ziggies and added a sediment from an ancient black foam-backed stamp with no name. Then I used a piece of old SU! pp to cut a fun frame from MFT.

I think she is making Christmas Rum Cake, don't you?!

Christmas Rum Cake
(unknown source)
Before you start, sample the rum and check for quality.  Good, isn't it?  Now, go ahead.
Select a large mixing bowl, measuring cup, etc. and check that rum again for quality.  It must be just right.  With an electric mixer, beat one cup butter in a large fluffy bowl, and add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again.  Meanwhile, make certain that rum is still the best quality.
Add two large eggs and two cups dried fruit and beat well until bery high.  If fruit gets stuck in the beater, pry it out with screwdriver.  Sample rum again, checking for consistency.
Next, sift in three cups of baking powder, pink of rum, one seaspoon toda and one cup of pepper.  Or is it salt?  Anway, don't fret, just test the rum again.  Sowie . . .
Now, sift in half a pint of lemon juice, fold in chopped buttermilk, and add strained nuts.  Rample the sum again.
Now, add one bablespoon srown tugar or whatever color is around.  Mix well.  Grease oven and turn on cake pan to 350.  Now pour the whole mixture into the oven and ~ oops ~ now where did I put that mop?
On second thought, gorfet it, check the rest of fa rum, and go to bed!
~~~
I also colored this character with my Ziggies, but this time I drew a funky frame around her. (She looks like she stayed up half the night making two batches of Rum Cake!) Then I stamped the NBUS sediment from Cheeky Monkey and added the Washi tape. Yes, I know, I'm using a lot of NBUS Washi tape ~ bonus!
~~~

I want to share two links with you as additional sources for funny/snarky stamps. Gail told me about Carmen's Viranda (just the company name karacks me up!) and Mary Anne told me about Creative Vision Stamps. Enjoy!

~~~
Off you go! Have a great day using that NBUS!!
~~~

Enjoy the challengeNo, seriously, enjoy!

QUESTION: Have you seen a stamp that reads "Today I will be happier than a bird with a french fry." I love it and saw it painted on a bedroom wall at an estate sale. Have fun Irma. BBB

When NBUS is over, where am I going to go to laugh my ass off...it really does need reducing. You keep coming up with these tired old hags...and make them look so good. Maybe I should just take a picture of myself and slap it on a card.

Leslie Miller said...

Hahahahaha! Now, stop! I can't take anymore! I had to go look at those sentiment sites. Pretty funny! If anyone's interested, Rubbernecker has good sentiments, some snarky, but not too severely snarky. Lots of other good sentiments, too. I think they're a much neglected site.

Another day of fun and laughter. Great cards, Darnell. I've seen the sentiment on the second one before and it's my favorite. I hope you were able to copy and paste that recipe because I don't know how else you could keep it straight. Oh wait. I guess it doesn't matter. ;)

Darnell, I very much enjoyed today's cards. And a big thank you for giving us links to those two sites. I've already been there to look/see, and am just about to go back to spend lots of $$. Oh, and before I forget, I will be making that version of Rum Cake for my next Girl's Day Out get together. If anyone makes a snarky comment about the taste, I'll just say, "It has to be right, I got the recipe from the internet". I promise I will not incriminate you in any way. Hugs
