We're Sizzlin'

We're having a heatwave, a tropical heatwave!
The temperature's rising, it isn't surprising,
She started a heatwave by letting her seat wave!

Snort! No, really, those are the actual lyrics!

I'm here today going all tropical since the temperatures truly are beastly, forecast to be between 100-106 for at least the next five days!

Here we go.
I made this card for my friend Liz who came to visit the Playhouse a while back. I made it to thank her for the beautiful hummer filigreed die from Sweet Dixie! You can see I used more of one of my Brusho backgrounds for the hummer. What you may not be able to see is his black jewelled eye. The Thanks sediment die is from Impression Obsession.

~~~
I don't think I've shared this tropically-colored wonky card yet. The whimsical cake is inset inside a wonky rectangle opening made with a die from Spellbinders. The border was completed with wonky stitches from MFT.
It amuses me that when we were in Home Ec class, we would have failed had we turned in wonky stitching like this. "What are you? Four?" Mrs. Mary Lou Cole would have asked, needles and pins perched precariously in the corner of her down-turned mouth, definitely NOT amused. Now here we are decorating our cards with wonky stitches and I like it!
~~~

This QACAS card was made from a single sheet of tiled text pp, over which I applied a wonkily worded and stitched Happy Birthday frame die with the positive and negative bits made matchy-matchy with the back ground.

In Other News

OO, I'm having an OOphorectomy!

You may remember that I had abdominal surgery the end of January to perk up my bladder which had decided to stop fighting with gravity and tried to escape out my hoohaw. That all went exceedingly well and I couldn't be more pleased.

Well. Except for one small problem. What happened was, lifting the bladder back where it belonged resulted in my uterus seeing an opening so it, too, took a dive and made an attempt to escape. Oy!

Which means that on Tuesday I'm again having abdominal surgery, this time to remove my baby basket and assorted lady bits which, after all, were last used going on 40 years ago. It's time they got the ol' heave ho-ho!

I'll do anything to get out of this heat.

~~~
Now you be jolly while I'm gone and enjoy the days ahead!  No, seriously, enjoy!  LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!  Please let me know you came by so I can be sure to return the flavor!
What fun, and how 'hot' cards these are Darnell - I still can't stitch a wonky seam and let it be - straight is what is needed!! But I love the wonky stitched dies :-)
Do hope you surgery is all straight forward and that there is no 'wonky' stitching involved!!
Blessings
Gorgeous cards and that sweet hummer is just perfect for you.
As for lady bits, why weren't we devised with a zip-lok opening so they could be whipped out when they were finished with? it would save a lot of hassle. Hope it all goes OK and the weather gets a bit cooler for you if you have to stay indoors to convalesce for a while. Or do you have the luxury of aircon?
What a gorgeous card - LOVE the vibrant green of that humming bird. I had to laugh at your stitching story - you are right, that wonky stitching would not have gone down well at all in Home Eccy. Wishing you massively well for your next round of surgery. Make sure you give yourself lots of time to recover. Xx
Hi Darnell
A cheerful smile inducing trio.You always manage to get a real vibrancy into your cards. Wonky stitching is fine by me as I can't sew for toffee.
Mind you, you better hope the surgeon's sewing skills are a bit better lol!
Hopefully, that's enough surgery now missy as there can't be anything left to head towards your hoohaw ....... maybe your teeth, but until you get false ones, I wouldn't worry.
Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers dear girl.
Take care.
Fab cards, love the wonky cake card. Your comment about wonky stitching brought back memories of Miss Secker my old DS teacher, that's Domestic Science not Nintendo, LOL.
As to the heatwave I can totally sympathise as we are having a mini one of our own, so glad to get in the car for some air con after a trip to the garden center yesterday!
Hope your surgery goes well. xx
It's hot here too and I'm wilting! We don't have AC - not that we really need it so at the moment sleep is impossible....
Fabulous cards here Darnell and I'm so glad you were able to enter our challenge at CCCB! Thank you!
I do hope your surgery goes well... I'm sure it will... I had all those bits removed over 20 years ago and what a relief! Sending you hugs and love
Three more fabulous makes. Yep, wonky stitching would not have gone down well at school, claiming it was artistic would not have worked! I hope your operation goes smoothly and that you make a speedy recovery. Please make sure you rest up x
Hi Darnell beautiful card designs... I especially like the birthday card :) I have that one or (similiar?) in my collection from you, but they are packed away so I can't double check to see if I'm suffering from brain loss. I hope you are surviving the heat... do you have AC in your Playhouse? Probably just fans blowing everything around? Take good care, Hugs xxx
Also in Italy the weather is sooo hot! For measuring temperatures you use Fahrenheit, while we use Celsius, but the temperature is the same: 100°F = 39°C
It's hot, hot, hot... and it's only June... :(
Love all your cards, expecially the QACAS, so colourful and different with that frame and paper!!
Yikes now that is a heat wave, Darnell! Here on the east coast it's dismal, damp and only in the 60s. Love all your fabulous creations, and the first one would be perfect for our Feathered Friends challenge at The Paper Players. Hugs and hope you stay cool today!
Cute thank you for Liz, she is a sweetie. The wonky card is a fun one and you are right about the stitching better be straight in class. I remember those days well. In this case wonky is cute, both the stitching and the die cut. You'll be on my mind Tuesday as you have your procedure. I'm sending good thoughts for you. There are other ways to be cool - go to the movies, the mall or even sit in front of the air conditioner. You really chose the extreme way! Hugs to you.
Lovely cards Darnell, and loved the comment about your Home Ec teacher...I think we had the same one! Too funny, but I love the wonky stitching too! Take care my friend and hope to see you back here again soon!! :0)
Well, perhaps your upcoming surgery will make you stop waving your seat. Would hate to think you brought on this interminable heat. Yuck! But I see you've been busy in the Playhouse. Sharing 3 fun and beautifully done cards. Wow! Seriously, wishing you a successful day Tuesday and a comfortable recovery. At least it will be air-conditioned. That in itself should make it better. Let me know when you feeling good again.
Three super cards, Darnell and I must say the hummer card is even better IRL. Had to smile when I read about the wonky stitching. It reminded me of my Needlework classes in school. Our teacher would have been horrified if she saw wonky stitching on our work. With a Mum as a professional dressmaker, she would have made me unpick and wonky stitching at home too, so I learnt to sew straight from any early age. I do like the wonky stitching dies though and they are working their way up my wish list.
Hope everything goes well on Tuesday. Will be thinking of you. xx
Sending you heartfelt wishes for your surgery, I hope it all goes well and that you are back to your usual self quickly! Big hugs, Annie xxx
Thanks for the stroll down Home-Ec Memory Lane! Ms. Snodgrass (yep, her real name) would have freaked if we stitched like this! Bet that she would change her tune now though if she saw the delightful effect that wonky stitching has on your sweet creation! Love the background!
The hummer card is gorgeous! I noticed his eye right off the hop. Love how the sentiment totally anchors Mr. Hummer from flying away.
I'm picking a fav here...it's the last card! Love the pink and light green color combo on this cool die! GREAT choice of DP for the background!
Three fabulous cards and I love that sweet and bright hummer against the soft Brusho background Darnell and a great present from Liz, then that gorgeous wonky rectangle and the beautifully painted image and surrounded with the wonky stitched edge makes a wonderful elegant card. Lastly the tile paper look perfect behind the stitched rectangular sentiment. I will be thinking about you on Tuesday and hope all goes well and that your recovery time is nice and quick. Surgery is no joke but you manage to make it sound amusing. Take it easy. x
Fun cards, Darnell. My fave is actually the birthday cake- the frame is my kind of wonky.We've got a break from our mid & upper 90's for a couple of days. Never been to CA-is it humid where you are? Awesome cards today, Darnell. You've definitely been creatively busy in the playhouse. Wish I could send you some of our cooler weather (70s for highs), but the postman got all huffy when I suggested it. Said he has enough to do just getting letters and packages to folks.
Oh Darnell, I've been OFF the PC, trying to get moved, and haven't kept in contact with hardly anybody :((
Sizzling HOT, and not a good time to be doing the packing and moving thing......but better than surgery my dear! Praying things go to the up most successful limits, and all the girly parts are taken care of........permanently!!!
Your cards are lovely and cheerful.....I needed some eye candy for sure!!! I think we (me and DH) are getting too old for this moving crap!!! 41 years of junk to go through is making me crazy and wondering why I had kids, and why I didn't MAKE them take EVERYTHING with them when they moved out!!! ;)))
Best of luck my friend, keeping you in my prayers!!!
It does seem odd that a lady's insides would want to just up and fall out, but it's not all that uncommon. Hopefully, that will be the end of it! You'll sail through with great ease, I'm certain. You are on my prayer list, but I know you'll do just fine. A "coming out party" as we who worked in surgery used to call it! Wish I were going to be in the hospital bed next to you having the same thing...and oh the cards we'd discuss and make as our recovery progressed!! Love the little hummer! He's so prettily dressed and looks so pretty on that background. Very sweet!! Love that die! Maryanne something-or-the-other used to rip out my stitching in Home Ec. Hated sewing class; my mother had taught me when I was little, and she did a better job than Maryanne ever could! Go Wonky!!! This is a great card. LOVE that cake and the wonky window and the wonky stitching around it. GREAT card!! And what a fun birthday card! Love the QACASness of this cutie pie. And those colors!!! Fabulous. Happiness abounding. Pretend I'm there, holding your hand as you drift off to sleep tomorrow. I will be with you in spirit and you're going to be back on your feet before you know it. Your last hurrah before surgery turned out some fantastic cards, Darnell. I'm in love with that little cake, wonky and all. My home ec teacher was Mrs. Stit and she gave me an A on my sewing but my mother made me take out the zipper and redo it because it wasn't right. I love how the birthday die matches the pp, and your little hummer is darling, as hummers usually are.
AWK! Can you ever catch a break here Darnell??! Hoping your surgery goes well but I'm sure you'll be shuffling around for awhile at least. Hope the Mister keeps you plied with juice bars and tropical drinks (of the non-alcoholic type...since they don't mix well with meds, right?). As for your delightful cards...some things just call for wonky!
When I read your home ec teacher's imagined reaction to the wonky designs I had to laugh. Many of your readers probably don't even know what home ec classes were, but I am oh too familiar with those. My first project in Home Ec was a gym bag, which I sewed so well that I sewed it shut. Then, we made an apron and I managed to sew the waist tie to the main skirt...oh my. That's why I stick to paper projects now. Get well soon and let's hope they get it right this time!
Darnell,
Sorry I am so remiss in writing to you sooner. I wanted to write on your blog post about being bullied and about your friend treating you badly, but I had just gotten home myself from the hospital from having thyroid cancer surgery and am all alone recovering. I will write you more privately but I was thinking of you and praying for you all along. Now you are having this next surgery yourself and I promised I would write and let you know my Mom had the same surgery many years ago (same reasons as you) and said it was the best thing she ever did! I know it isn't fun to have surgery, but I truly hope this will help you to feel much better and improve your quality of life in that area. We women understand😘 I will be praying that all goes smoothly and that your recovery will be quick and as pain free as possible. Please know you are loved and prayed for by so many, even when we don't all comment as often as we should 🤦‍♀️
Lots of love and prayers,
Maureen
I've heard about uteruses (uterii?) escaping out the hoo haw before but never bladders. What's with your body parts leaving you like that? Is it like rats deserting a sinking ship?! It does make one think.
I've tried to get "them" to take the baby basket and lady bits ever since I was old enough to know about them and what they did. No takers. I'm tellin' ya. I even tried to get the guy taking the gallbladder to ship and take a few extra bits too. Nope. Anyway, enjoy your stay in the hospital, pretend it is a resort with annoying staff.
Oh yeah, there were cards too..... wonky stitching, I'm all for it because that is what you are going to get from me one way or the other.
I am behind! I love the hummingbird card and the birthday one-the stitching on that one is so cool. Using the patterned paper with the saying is striking as well. I am so sorry to have missed this post because you had to go back in for surgery. My great grandmother had that problem but back in the war torn 1940's the operation did not exist. my mom's best friend just went for surgery for her bladder also. The same problem. Love your cards & use of Brusho's! I'm so sorry you're needing more surgery. You will be in my prayers! (Sorry I couldn't respond sooner -- I was in West Virginia attending my son's wedding!)
See this is what happens when I don't read your posts on time. I had no idea you were having surgery Darnell, I am really hoping it went well for you (guess I will hear in the later posts). And I gaily sent your birthday card without a mention of your surgery and hoping that you were recovering quickly. I really hope you are. Sending lots of happy healing hugs your way, Lisa xx
