Cupcake Confetti and Christmas Pines

Hey! How's it going?

You know what I'm going to say, doncha? That's right, we've whooshed through another week to Friday! Yay, it's the weekend! Not only that, but it's a long weekend with a Monday holiday for some countries!

And it brings us that much closer to NBUS Challenge #5 coming to a theater near you on Tuesday, September 8th!! Hammy and I have been busy cleaning out the Inlinkz boxes for your upcoming beautiful cards. We've also been lining up lots of prizes, but we took a break yesterday after lunch and before nap to play with a couple of card challenges.

First up:
The e/f is by Darice called "Multi Circles." I supersized my tag and made it with this antique tool I have called "scissors." The stitched circle die is from Lil' Inkers. The cupcake stamp is from SU, however, I wanted the flame to be more prominent, so I used a NBUS raindrop stamp from Paper Smooches "Sunny Side Up" set. The "Sweet" is from Serendipity Stamps and the NBUS confetti is a Cutaway die from Winnie & Walter.

My friend Carol Mayne (Just Me: c) is the designer being showcased at Tag You're It! Here is her outstanding tag which was my inspiration:

I'm also playing in:
RRCB22SIP Color Challenge 12
Today's Twofer

This Christmas card has a white card base and a copper metallic mat from GKW. The Christmas trees were made with Memory Box dies "Pine Border Background" and "Pine Border Outline." The background was cut from a design I made by playing with alcohol and inks on glossy paper. Wait. What? I meant to say alcohol inks on glossy paper. Here is a close-up:
The copper e/p is very old from Stampa Rosa. The sediment, however, is NBUS from the SU "Ornamental Pines" set.

My inspiration came from Kimberly Wiener (wienerhoneymooners) who is the current MUSE at MUSE: Christmas Visions. Here is Kimberly's extraordinary card:
As you can see, I was inspired by all the copper and embossing, including the sediment. I was also inspired by the colorful and variegated backgrounds of Kimberly's trees. Her little bird on the tree top is represented by a copper star on mine.

With all those triangles and triangles inside of triangles on my card, I am also playing in Virginia's View Challenge: Geometric Patterns.

Planet Delusional

On the home front, I've got a poorly Mister. Last weekend we went away for four days to a lake with some of his siblings and a cousin and their spouses and we all had a great time. Except for they decided to rent a boat and go water skiing like they used to do when they were kids. I mean it's like riding a bike, right?

Not so much. It turns out 45 years might be too long between lift-offs and the Mister ended up with a severely pulled hamstring at best and at worst, the possibility of needing surgery to fix a detached ligament at his hip. We will find out today. In the meantime, the poor guy literally cannot sit down, so he cannot drive, so he cannot go to work. Pray for me him, please.

~~~
ONLY FOUR MORE DAYS!!
~~~

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!

Ouch, I feel for you (and your hubby)! Nothing worse than a 'bear' with a sore hip.
Two fab cards though, perhaps Hammy will be seeing more of you in the playhouse if the mister is prowling around the house.
My crafting has been curtailed somewhat by a poorly finger, tried to get my rings off after a too tight plaster made my finger swell and the effort made it so much worse, just left me with a v bruised knuckle! :0 x

So you too have that ancient artefact - scissors - in your tool kit! And you used them so expertly! Great cards, as always, Darnell.Thanks for sharing at AAA Cards.

Two amazing cards - one cute as a cupcake can possibly get! The other - so elegant with the deep, rich earthy colors that you used! Love the B/W/P color combo of the cupcake and the 'enlarged' flame. Great CASE of Carol's tag.

2nd card - siply stunning - literally! Love all the glorious white space and love the metallic look of the trees and the card base!

Praying for a speedy recovery for your Mister xx oo

Two wonderful cards Darnell and just love the black, pink and white of the first card with that yummy cake and a great CASEing of Carol's pretty card. The trees with the alcohol ink on the shiny paper and the metallic mat behind are gorgeous, and a clever take on Kimberley's fab card. So sorry the mister came to grief whilst water skiing and do hope that everything will heal without the need for surgery. x

Carol L said...

Your cards are both wonderful and I love all those little trees lined up in a row! The fun pink flourishes add a real touch of party time to the cupcake card! So sorry about the Mr's misfortunate, especially on a holiday weekend :( BTW, I think your hammy sent some of his friends over to devour my cotton candy today! I didn't capture them though - I let them run wild :) They're digging their freedom :)

Jean said...

Love the Tree card! Just gorgeous!

cm said...

Oh my! Poor Mister and most definitely, poor you! Hope his hamstring reconnects itself quickly, minus any need for surgery! Yes, I've heard the 'just like riding a bike' phrase many times..and the outcome is, well predictable! Last time - a couple years back - my mister needed to use a cane for a couple of months, because after all, he 'used' to do that mountain bike jump. Yeesh! Thank you x a kabazillion for drawing inspiration from my tag and stylizing one of the yummiest, prettiest, most classy cupcake cards I've ever seen! Swooning and drooling (not the most elegant of behaviours but...that's the truth). So thrilled your joined us at Tag You're It! And your alcohol-and-ink trees are stunning! I'm here visiting mom this weekend, awaiting Andy's return from being an official at Tour of Alberta. They're up near Jasper now..in the freezing sleety, nearly snow weather. Being on the back of a motor bike was not his idea of good time: a tad chilly! Anyway...
Hugs and love, my friend!

I just finished praying for you and Mister for patience, pain releif, and a complete recovery! I'm so sorry about that. Water skiing was my favorite thing to do in my teen years. I worked on my uncle's resort in Northern WI every summer through high school and college. Wonderful memories! Your tag card looks delicious! I love that you used the raindrop for the flame, and both of those dies are a perfect fit. The majority of my tags are cut by hand too. I love that you dabble in alcohol inks. I find them fascinating, but I have yet to purchase any. Those copper trees are the bomb! Thanks for joining in on the fun over at Tag, You're It!

Mmmm did that post come up too quick. I was just reading that the challenge starts tomorrow and then when I clicked on it it disappeared. I just opened the cupboard on NBUS and it all jumped out yelling 'use me''use me'. Time to start a crafting, so if I can only enter three times does that mean I need to make some aliases so I can post more......
Poor Mister, did you stand there and go 'well thats what happens when you kid yourself your ....years old????' Try to be patient and remember they are like children and need to be coddled a wee bit. You take care too. Cant believe all those companies that have jumped on board, be ready to be inundated baby.

Great cards! Love the texture and the dies you chose for the first one and the alcohol inks on the transparency for the second, so cool!

Bobby said...

Where to start? With the most important first I guess. I'm late seeing this but I hope Mister is improving. I'll probably find out in a later post how things are going but prayers for you both. As for the cards, your vintage tool did a great job on that tag and the cupcake looks mighty tasty. Using copper instead of traditional gold makes your tree card extra-ordinary. And I was hoping it was alcohol and inks because I wanted to find out the technique. My daughter did something with dropping alcohol on some kind of paint once and the results were like tie-dye.

Jeanne J. said...
