Hello Stamplings!
I heard through friends that What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday (WOYWW) is celebrating its 900th weekly desk hop today and everyone who currently or formerly used to participate is invited to link up for this special event! In 2011, as I trolled The Webs, I learned of WOYWW and began to link up. If you're interested in more detail about that, you can read about it in my post here.
The whole idea of WOYWW is that each Wednesday you take a photo your desk (no fair cleaning it up beforehand!) and share what you are working on. The linky format is a list and you hop along the links visiting other desks, commenting, and making friends! It was a simple idea that the delightful Julia had when she created the WOYWW concept, but the friendships that have resulted have been meaningful and long-lasting. I hope she knows that. Thank you, Julia!💋
I'm joining today to celebrate Julia's accomplishment and also spread the word. Some card designers just want to blog their cards and no small talk, and that's understandable with our busy lives. But if you're a person who also enjoys the social aspect of blogging and getting to know the artists behind the cards and vice versa, then please join in the fun next Wednesday! Sara Brennan took over the reins for Julia, so you can find WOYWW at Sarah's Craft Shed. Thank you, Sarah!
Here is my desk for you to gawp at, as required:
Not much has changed at the ol' Playhouse desk. Which is good thing! Lately, I've been stenciling up a storm of leaves and you'll see a couple of cards I posted Monday and a couple new ones that are engorged below. I didn't have time to try reds and greens for Christmas. Oh, wait, there's also Easter and the 4th of ... nope. Sometimes my ideas go from brilliant to ain't nobody got time for that.
For longtime deskers, you will see my requisite glass of wodka and look, there's Hammy! If you haven't visited me in a while, I'm delighted to introduce you to Hammy's helper, Stanley. Stanley was lovingly felted for me by my dear friend Anne Redfern of Redanne, who passed in July 2024. I met Annie on WOYWW and Stanley reminds me every day of how much I miss her ~ but the memories are all happy ones. She was so considerate and she thought Hammy could use an assistant, considering he is quite elderly for a hamster!
You might also notice the two handsome lads gracing the family wall calendar. Yes, those are the grandtwins Adam and Henry, all grown up! As little guys, they were often featured on WOYWW making their own cards at this very desk.
Okay, you know how I get to rambling, so I'll shut it, show you the results of my desk disarray, and you can move about the Hop!
The NBUS sediment is from Harvest Mouse by MFT.
Yes, I meant to smudge up the background. Not. Before the ink was dry, I took a ruler to draw the spidey web line and smudge happens. So I leaned into it. The spider stencil is handmade. It's the negative of the "Creepy Spider" die from Memory Box. The sediment is from Hero Arts.
~~~
Enjoy your WOYWW! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
Thank you for coming by to visit me as you hopped around the desks or just came calling!
Happy 900th WOYWW Darnell!! How wonderful to see you on the list again and to read your fun post, you always write engagingly and make me smile! (Yeah, array, for example). I’m glad you’re keeping well, it was great to catch up with your news. I remember the time we met in Salisbury with great fondness, our paths would never have crossed without woyww, thanks Julia!!
Hugs LLJ 5 xx
Morning Darnell. Happy 900th edition. How lovely to have hammy to remember Anne by. You look very busy there. Lisa x17 xx
Loved reading your post Darnell! It's great to hear that you have all these lovely memories! Happy 900th! Susan #14
I just came a calling! What a fun idea that clearly resonated for some folks for a long time. It was fun to take a peek at your desk. I noticed the grown up twins first. Your cards are wonderful as ever. Thanks for sharing Darnell.
lovely to see your desk and Hammy & Stanley. The cards are lovely. Happy WOYWW 900! With love & God Bless, Caro xx #19
Oh Darnell how wonderful to see your lovely desk and that wonderful California light! I’m aghast at the calendar proving that time flies, what good looking young men your grand twins have turned themselves into! Of course in my head they’re both still about twelve! Very sorry to find out that RedAnne has passed away, a warm and friendly craft life gone far too soon, for sure. I hope Hammy and Stanley are great inspirations for you, I have a couple of cards you’ve sent me that I often try to replicate, they always provide a jump off at least, I’m grateful for that. And do you remember sending me a couple of Distress Oxide ink pads for no good reason other than they were new and I didn’t have any…generous to a fault. I still have them and still use them and still thank you for them when I pull the now basket full from the shelf. Glad to see you’re still on the Wodka, you are so good to keep up your fluid levels, I continue to be rubbish at that! As always, lovely cards in your making, you’re in such good time with them…do allow your mind and art to wander, it’s fun to see what happens!
Happy Week 900 WOYWW!
The gardener is trimming the hedges outside my window so hoping to sneak in while he has lunch. Toooo loud.
Lovely to see you coming back for a special week! That card with the leaves is stunning. No one says in array, do they? Very interesting. Love seeing Hammy (and Stanley) but sad to hear you lost a great friend. Lot's of WOYWWers from days past are not here to join, but it's nice to celebrate the good memories, as you do with Anne. Have a wonderful week 900 - se you for 1000 :D
Hi Darnell, great to see you here again. I have always loved your Playhouse and I'm pleased to say I now have one of my own now. Love the cards. Halloween will be here before we know it and probably Christmas too! I'm going to pop back later for a propper catch up with what else you've been up to. Sending big woyww hugs, Angela x12x
More super leafy cards and it's great to see your Wednesday workdesk. Looks to me as if your glass of wodka is larger than your mug of coffee but perhaps it's just an illusion 🤣🤣. Great to see Hammy and Stanley standing by ready for action
Happy WOYWW 900, Darnell. It's so lovely to see you here again. You've been missed. Lovely too to see your desk and your grandtwins. Gosh, haven't they grown! I don't make cards anymore but I remember well when I did and how much I was influenced by your wonderful creations. Good to know that your hamsters are still taking care of you. Have a wonderful week. Elizabeth #27
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has a messy chaotic craft desk! Great stencilling of leaves on the two cards - amazing what a difference the colour combination can make!
