Majestic Sunflower and Stag

Hello Stamplings!

I hope you had a great week and you are doing well! This week begins with Labor Day here in America, so cheers to all those who labor and to those who are retired from laboring! [The holiday was rushed into law and signed by President Grover Cleveland in 1894 to mend relations with workers.] Cheers also to those of you who labor unpaid keeping house and family together, clean, and feed. In fact, triple 🍷🍷🍷 to you!

On a sad note, the week ends with our remembrance of 9/11. This year is the 25th anniversary of this horrific event. It is a time to remember those lost and how we came together as a nation to grieve and to support the heroic first responders.

It is fitting that I start today with a sunflower. Sunflowers always turn their faces to the sun and they symbolize love, loyalty, and resilience.

Onefer
It is I = Ink Week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar. This sunflower is an old-timer from Technique Tuesday. I'm not sure when the stamp came out, but I first blogged a card using it in 2017. This design represents a rare hybrid sunflower which has a rainbow center that you can only see once the seeds have fallen.

The sediment is from GKW, simply matted and attached to a textured card base. I watercolored the image with my Ziggies and Hammy and Stanley, who love sunflower seeds, patiently took turns winking their favorite flower, one petal at a time!

Playing in Beautiful Blossoms (Anything Floral Goes); CAS Mix Up (Sunflower); and Freshly Made Sketches.
Twofer

Here we have another QACAS design. This reindeer is also an old-timer. It's from Stampin' Up and I painted it direct-to-stamp using SU markers. More winking from the lads and this time you can see a few of the schparkles. Maybe. The sediment is from Simon Says Stamp. The dusty blue textured border is cut from a Papertrey Ink die set called, "Reflections: November Dies."

Playing in: CAS Christmas (Woodland Critters); Christmas Kickstart (Reindeer Games); and Color Hues (Dusty Blue and Brown).

😑Blogger has been buggering with commenting, so I haven't been able to leave comments on NBUS or return comments. Someone told me it is working again, but the format is odd. I hope I'm able to catch up soon and I thank you for your patience!

Enjoy your week! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse! Just FYI, I'm not sure if I'll be able to post next Monday. We have someone house-sitting and taking care of Nellie and the lads while we take a few days off to spend time at the coast!

p.s. Don't go googling hybrid rainbow sunflower seeds. I just made that bit up.πŸ™ƒ

Yes, Darnell, blogger was being a pain, all seems well again, but the actual comment space we type in is very small.... trying to make us keep them short???
Glad to see the boys are enjoying their winking and keeping busy and earning their tucker on these fabulous cards - I could see the schparkle on the sunflower leaves, but not the stag.
Blessings

Your sunflower is so beautiful with its rainbow center and the thoughts you shared about its significance. Your Christmas card is lovely and your cartoon(?) made me snort! What a morning!

Yes, commenting was impossible just recently but at least it seems to be OK now, albeit in a very 'short-line format. Gorgeous sunflower card and the stag is magnificent. Love the style of that frame too. Enjoy your break - see you again soon.

I love the framing on both cards Darnell. The colors on your sunflower are fabulous and give such depth. Your deer looks perfect in side that sweet blue frame. Happy Labor Day. How is it September already???

Two beautiful cards celebrating Inks from the IDEAS Calendar this week. LOVE your gorgeous sunflower. It's wonderful, especially with the rainbow center. :) The texture and bright green card base compliments your beautiful sunflower. Thanks for joining us at CAS Mix Up! Another beauty with the lovely direct-inking-to-stamp of your regal reindeer. The ink has left a wonderful texture that looks like fur ... so well done, my friend. Thanks for joining us at CAS Christmas and Christmas Kickstart #114. Love, Lolly

Yes, commenting on Blogger was not working for a while but it's fixed now (though it looks odd when you type up your comment). A beautiful sunflower - a perfect autumn card, and perfect for thoughts of 9/11. Your second card is a great QACAS - love the way you inked up the reindeer with the markers. And that is a great frame die.

I labored over the grocery shopping today, and the rest of the week looks like plenty of laboring, too. I'm counting my blessings that I'm able to do all of it. Your sunflower has the most lovely soft rainbow center, and the rest of it is pretty, too! I'm quite besmitten with that yellow textured cardstock. Your stately stag gets you one card closer to Christmas. He's a beauty! I see some sparkles. Love the frame. Okay, I won't go looking for those rainbow sunflower seeds, darn it.

Blogger can certainly try your patience, can't it! I love both of your cards, Darnell. The pretty sunflower looks especially nice with the black frame. As for your Christmas card...The stag looks great framed in blue. Thanks for taking the time to join us at Color Hues, we love having you! Take care!

What a gorgeous sunflower Darnell and beautifully watercoloured, and the lime green backing card complements so well. I love your deer too within that wonderful shaped frame and the direct to stamp with markers technique has worked beautifully and the blue with the brown complement one another so well. Thank you for joining in with us over at CAS Mix Up with that lovely sunflower. x

A wonderful Twofer Darnell! The watercolour Sunflower is so beautifully coloured and is sure to bring joy to the recipient! The Deer is majestic and beautifully framed. Thanks for joining us at CAS Mix Up:) Ps: The world certainly changed on 9/11. I will be thinking of those who lost their lives and their loved ones.

Two beautiful cards Darnell, your Sunflower is waving goodbye to the summer and that majestic stag looks wonderful. Thanks for playing along with us at CAS Christmas xx

Your sunflower looks brilliant, as though its face is turned directly toward the midday sun. But when I saw the stag in its frosty blue frame, I gave a little shiver. It may still be warm as a sunflower outside, but I know that colder temps will be here soon.

A beautiful sunflower and reminder of how people can come together. Hopefully it won't take another tragedy for that to happen! I love this deer and his schparkly coat! The simple Dusty Blue frame puts him in the spotlight, exactly where he should be. Thanks for bringing him to Color Hues!

Two fan-tabulous cards! I love the beautiful sunflower, and I'm betting it's pretty IRL due to that winking the boys have done. The stag is also pretty amazing, but we'll call it stud-ly, not cute.
Yes, and let's do remember 9/11 and the wonderful positive that came from it, while praying for all the negative.

Hi Darnell.... I am always impressed and inspired by your posts... you've always something to share other than your wonderful cards - two lovely ones for this weeks "I" = Inks prompt.. Sad that the 9/11 event has us all remembering that awful time .. hubby's birthday is Sept 11, so we know just what we were doing at this time 25 years ago... just tragic. Also I see last week your post re: WOYWW, and you had me looking back as I found this cool group back at #213, June 2013 and joined them for a few years > Jan '16 when we started out renovations... yes and haven't we interacted with so many people... I did enjoy it. Anyway have a wonderful day and enjoy your little break, hugs Robyn

What a beautiful result and so pretty with the decorative blue framing! Thanks for joining us at CAS Christmas! (also LOVE your beautiful sunflower with its symbolism and lovely sentiment!) Julia xx

Your creations are fabulous and inspiring as always! Hope you're well ... sorry I haven't been around for awhile ... time has certainly gotten away from me. Your card is uplifting in view of the terribly sad rememberance of 9/11/01 ... a day that is certainly burned into my mind forever! Thanks for all you do!

Well shoot, I was looking forward to getting rainbow sunflower seeds from Amazon. LOL! I've been a bit MIA due to a recent out of state move but I'm finally back and so happy to see your lovely Christmas card in our gallery. Your sunflower tribute is equally as lovely. Thanks for playing!
