I also missed Inky week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar, but I got a wee bit inky anyway for my Onefer for this week's D = Die Cuts.

I think this is self-exploratory, but I will lay out the ingredients because it's a lot for a CASlicious design. The corduroy-effect card base is from the last century and you know from past posts that I have to spend some quiet time fondling the ridges before I can finally get to work on the card. For the frame and waves, I used hammered card.
The frame is NBUS from Papertrey Ink called, "Reflections: November Dies." The little Ziggie-watercolored sailboat is from a set of two dies called, "Marina Sailboats" from Poppystamps. The "friend" die is from Sissix. The waves are from a set by Simon Says called, "Border Waves." With all these ingredients, it really made itself with just a bit of glue from me.

This design is very QACAS. While I had the frame dies out, I wanted to use the largest die and I wanted to play in this month's CAS Christmas challenge (and others), so the spotlight image inside the frame had to be a snowman.
The only hard part of the card was deciding which of my snow peeps to use, especially without my helpers here. In the end, I chose one of my favorites from Purple Onion. I don't know if the snowman has a name, but I think we should call him Button. (I'm not known for the most original names when I'm anthropomorphizing.)
But I digest. I stamped and gold-embossed Button onto a panel of creamy, lightly speckly paper. I used an ancient gold glitter pen to color the scarf, nose, button, and a bit of grounding. I decided not to use a sediment stamp. It seemed repugnant.
Playing in: CAS Christmas (Snowman); Color Hues (Cream and Gold); and Time Out (Water. Because, I mean, snow is made of water, right?)

Do you have any hacks for getting rid of ground squirrels? We've had some ground squirrels fledge, or whatever you call it when baby ground squirrels grow big enough to come out from under one's deck.😶
Luckily there are only three of them, but they (and their parents) are enough to cause a lot of tunnels to suddenly appear ... including through and under our beautiful retaining wall which I'm afraid will collapse. And we certainly don't want these young'uns having their own babies here some day!
We have called several exterminator companies to trap them or help us convince them they don't want to live here. So far all of them have said, "Nope. We don't do ground squirrels!"
But, golly, they sure are cute!

While they look like baby regular squirrels that have bushy tails, this is as big as ground squirrels get. They are little guys with enormous claws ~ little digging machines!
Speaking of Nellie, she turns 15 years old today!! Happy Birthday, fluffy girl!

Your first card is CAS perfection! The textures of the card stocks, the arrangement of the elements, and the beautifully watercolored sailboat -- just WOW! Love that frame which I've never seen before, and it works wonderfully in your lovely Christmas card as well. That's a keeper for sure! Thanks for joining us at Color Hues! Happy Birthday to Nellie! Wow, she looks amazing! Must be all your love. I have no ideas about ground squirrels. We have the bushy tail squirrels and rabbits galore, which our Ollie does is best to let them know he doesn't want them in our yard/his territory. I wish you luck! Your cards are wonderful. Love the sail on the boat and the golden Christmas card.
The blue wavy card is pretty and serene. I love that frame die. It draws the eye to the focal point. Your snowman is adorable. Love all that glitter. As for the squirrels, I don't know. We are having a squirrel getting in our bird feeder. My husband even built a small box feeder to set on the deck with things the squirrels like. But I think it like the challenge of getting up into the bird feeder.
Loving the serene sail boar and the 'buttons' snowman is just so quirky. Happy Birthday to fluffy Nellie - shame she's too pretty to scare the ground squirrels.
Fabulous cards Darnell, great nautical card, like the design and your water coloring on it, your snowman is darling and like the gold. Glad to see a post, was wondering . No hints for getting rid of squirells, we used to have a lot of them and made the mistake of having the garage door open a lot. I started hearing something rolling in front of the window it was acorns they had stored for the winter!
Your friend card is awesome Darnell, and I love the corduroy card base....I'd want to feel it too! A perfect CAS design and perfect too for the sketch! Your Purple Onion snowman is soooo CUTE and I love how you've done him all up in the cream and gold for Color Hues...he's definitely a fancy snowman!! Those frame dies are so elegant. I love their unique shape, and they perfectly framed your images on both cards. We have our own squirrel and bunny issues here. The bunnies breed like, well, like the rabbits they are, and the squirrels seem to take their baby-making cues from them! I buy moth balls in the spring and put them in all my potted plants to keep the squirrels out of them. Would they help in your case? I'm not sure, but maybe worth a try.

Two fab cards Darnell, Sorry I can't help with the ground squirrels, we have enough to do with our tree variety. The OH tries to keep their numbers down as they strip the bark off the mature trees which then kills them. Not good when a public footpath runs underneath!! Oops before I go thanks for supporting my Color Hues colours! :)

That frame is awesome and so versatile. It looks great on both cards. The sailboat screams fun in the sun rocking on those waves. Then off to winter with Button in his warm scarf. Happy Birthday, Nellie, you look beautiful. I hope you get some help evicting the ground squirrels. You're right though, they are cute!

Darnell, Love your CAS design of your sailboat is colored so perfectly. Love the waves as well. As for your snowman, he is so darling and brought a huge smile to my face and made me dream of cooler temps right about now. He looks super framed in gold. As for your ground squirrel problem...You reminded me of something my father did when he got angry at the squirrels for eating the bird seed. This would not be safe for Nellie though. He electrocuted the pool that lead to the bird seed and it only took a few small zaps for them to get the message. 🤣 Happy Birthday to sweet Nellie and thanks for joining us at Color Hues.
Both cards are sheer perfection! They are the perfect amount of QA and CAS to suit me... I love the frame you've used too, PTI has some great ones imho.
As for the ground squirrels, sorry... I kinda think they're adorable, but then again, I don't have a retaining wall to collapse or a deck to hide under (currently)!

Hi Darnell.... again wonderful cards... that is one really nice frame die that you've used on both cards...a terrific CAS Friend card and I just love your gold snowman. No help with the ground squirrels problem... none of them here in Australia but we have the same problem with those oh so cute possums...hubby had to block up alllll the holes accessable to the ceiling to stop them nesting up there. Happy Birthday, Nellie! She still looks like a beautiful young woman! I'm loving your sailboat and how you used Donna's sketch! I'm loving the watercoloring and all the texture! And this snowman is "da bomb"! He couldn't be more perfect for this Color Hues challenge! Thanks for sharing him there. We have regular squirrels that are such a nuisance. Bruce traps them when they get too plentiful and takes them to the park. I'm not sure if they come back or if some neighboring squirrels move in, but we always seem to have a few. Good luck with getting yours to move away. Maybe call a different animal removal company?
A great card for a friend Darnell with the beautiful blue sails of the yacht and the white frame is such a pretty shape, and great with the wave border behind and the blue textured card is just perfect. Your Christmas card is wonderful too with that oh so cute snowman and the frame in gold this time which works brilliantly, and with the added gold colour on various parts of 'Button' it looks so bright and shiny. I love the photo of cute little Nellie. She is far to sweet and gentle to frighten the ground squirrels, but perhaps you could find a friend or neighbour who has a large dog with a ferocious bark who might give them the feeling that they could be a lot happier elsewhere...you might need to keep it for a few days to convince them..lol. x

Ground squirrels are new to me, we have the regular ones that taunt the dog by running up the tree .
Absolutely stunning cards Darnell - especially the second gold one. Love love love that frame. If the car hadn't cost me an arm and half a leg this week, I may have been tempted to pursue a purchase...
I had never heard of ground squirrels before - they sound potentially destructive wee varmints! All the best with deterring them - maybe try some curry powder or chilli flakes around the place = lashings of it! I know it keeps the cats out of my peony planter!! Desperate times call for desperate measures

OMgosh, words can't even say how much I love your first card! The second is mighty cute, too, in a totally different way. I love the frame set a lot. We just recently started seeing those little ground squirrels in our yard whereas we had only Douglas tree squirrels before. I don't see any evidence of them other than the squirrels themselves. Nellie doesn't look a day over two, sweet girl! You've been taking good care of her.
So much going on here, Sis (as usual!) A lovely sailboat summer card, your golden snowman - which I came to see as your entry in CAS Christmas: Snowman - love that golden frame and the cutie patootie snowman waving gleefully at us! Thanks for joining us at CAS Christmas! and then you animal stories! We just have big squirrels here in MA and ours just climb our trees and hang out at our bird feeders - and I also throw them about 6 walnuts in the shell daily as a treat - your little guys are cute! but their burrowing is a problem I can see - in NH I have heard of little red squirrels getting into summer cottages during the winter and eating through the wiring (UGH) so that's not fun either. and finally - Happy 15th Birthday to Nellie - she doesn't look a day older than 3! Hi Darnell, Sorry about thos ground squirrels, that seems like a real problem! Hope you can get rid of them. I just LOVE your sailboat card with the soft colors, beautiful blues and great textures.
