Stenciling Through the Seasons

Hello Stamplings!

I sure hope this finds my European friends feeling much cooler! What a terrible heat wave in areas that are not used to it. (I'm not going to talk about how nice the weather has been here!🤫)

This is a rare fifth Monday of the month as we close out June, which means it is S = Stencils week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar.

Onefer
I used a NBUS stencil from Papertrey Ink called, "Wandering Petals." Now, I don't do much stenciling, but I enjoy it. Even though they all sit organized in pretty stripey binders right to the left of my face, I tend to ignore them. It's like the thigh-bone-connected-to-the-knee-bone situation, but in this case, it's more of an organic disconnect from eye to brain.

Which brings me to sharing a dumb thing I did when stenciling this card. I'm telling you because after I embarrassed myself, then I was amused. But, also, tell me the truth, am I just getting too old for this job?

This is a simple two-stencil stencil. Two. One stencil is the stems and leaves and the other is the petals. It doesn't get much easier than that. I inked the stems and leaves, picked up the petals stencil and the phone rang. After the call, I absent-mindedly lined up the petals stencil over the stem stencil ... and loved how perfectly they lined up! This was a revelation!

But then I lifted the petals stencil and realized why no one else had shared this wonderful technique. Like a do-do, I had simply inked the petals onto the plastic of the stem stencil!🫣

Once I properly inked the petals, I used the stencil to outline the flowers with my fine-point black pen.

And where were my little helpers, you might ask? I clearly need them, but this is their vacation time and they are off to see the cousins. Hammy is slowing down, so I'm glad we have Stanley back to help him on their travels.

Playing in: Addicted to Stamps and More (Die Cuts and/or Stencils); Just Us Girls (Stencil Week); and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday (Anything Goes).

My Christmas design was schparked by the current sketch at Jingle BellesI hope you can see the snowflakes. The snowflake stencil is without packaging so, you know, it fits in the above-mentioned binders. I didn't start out planning to go mono chrome, but one minty green thing led to another.  The sweet little snowman is NBUS from Pink & Main.

Also playing in: ABC Christmas Challenge (L = Let It Snow); Christmas Kickstart Challenge (Snow Day); and Rudolph Days (A/G Christmas).

Enjoy your week! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!

I have a busy week ahead with a special July NBUS on the 1st, my birthday on the 2nd, and the 4th of July weekend, so I might not see you next Monday. Stay inky!

Mwah!
*Life is too short!

What a special week for you, my friend! Your cards are wonderful, fun "new" inking technique and all. Thank you for sharing!

Love your stenciled florals, and am very impressed with your black outlining! That must have been time-consuming. The snowman is among the cutest I've ever seen. You have a good start to your week. Enjoy all the festivities this weekend!

You can't be too old, Dolly, because we are the same age. Doing crazy stuff sparks more creativity (or a full trash can)! I have done the same thing with my stencils and in fact even crazier. I have a stencil that is heat embossed! I'm not sure how that happened. Outlining your flowers was a creative fix and all is well and a fun and playful card to boot! Your snowflakes make a perfect background for this sweet snowman. Enjoy your week and a very happy birthday, my dear, dear friend! XOXO

Super post! Love your stencilling, especially the flowers!!!
We are in for some heat over the next few days, 30-C - 40C
so guess where I'll be - indoors, crafting and watching
Wimbledon tennis coverage on TV!!!

Funny about your stenciling on the first card, Darnell! :-) I love the way you used your stencil to add the black outlines. And what a delightful Christmas card!

You crack me up! Gotta love it, Darnell. I mean, I've never done this but I can absolutely see myself doing this! Meanwhile, two wonderful cards have been made. And no, you are NOT too old...

Great cards and thanks for the laugh. We all do stupid things, so I am glad you are part of the club xx

Well, you certainly made the stencil look pretty, and in the end you have a pretty card, too! I love the sentiment. Happy upcoming summer birthday to you! Moving right along with the Christmas cards, that's a cute little snowman in his minty snowy world. The sunny setting for your card photos looks wonderful.

Thanks for sharing your "perfectly lined up stenciling" story, Dolly. I thought things like that just happen to me. :) In the end, your stenciled card is beautiful! A fab way to start my day. Your amusing story, pretty stencilled card, (love the outlining), and adorable snowman card. Have a good week, a fabulous happy birthday and a great July 4th xxx

Two smashing cards as always. Love the fact that you'd 'found' a new way to use stacking stencils - think we all have such moments of inattention but don't own up to them!! Made me smile anyway and the end result is very pretty.

You aways make me smile when I read about your makes Darnell. Your cute snowman is my fave. :)

That is something I probably would have done too. Great cards. Enjoy your birthday week!

I'm sure you're not the only one who has done that, or worse, Darnell. You're never too old to get crafty even if it doesn't turn out exactly like you pictured it. I love how you outlined the flowers on that sweet stencil. Thanks for sharing that card with us at Just Us Girls. And monochrome works anytime, especially with a winter card when everything seems to be shades of one color anyway.

I think all regular crafters have used their supplies "creatively." We just don't all admit it! Loved your stencil story and the photo of the "stenciled flowers on a stencil." I think that stencil could be featured in the National Crafters Museum of Original Ideas. The cute snowman gave me a brief moment of feeling cool when it reminded me of a Minnesota winter on a 90+ degree summer day! Happy Birthday, my friend. Celebrate with all your might.

Both stencilled cards are wonderful Darnell and I laughed at your faux pas by not removing one stencil before adding the next, something I would most likely do too...lol. The colours are so pretty too. The snowman on the second is so cute too with the dotty paper and the added softly stencilled snowflakes on white added on top, and finished with the stand out large sentiment and two sweet little pearls top left and bottom right..beautiful cards. x

Sweet stenciled flowers on card one, Darnell - had to laugh at your struggles because you are not alone (ask me how I know)! Cute little snowman on card two also! Glad you're enjoying nice weather - we're having a heat wave and it's not fun with humidity!!

Love your flower stencil happy accident card, Darnell, and the cute snowman is perfect for our let it snow theme. The stenciled snowflake background adds a lot of texture and I love the bold sentiment.
Sending love and hugs, my friend and thanks for sharing with us at ABC Christmas Challenges.
Hugs,

Great cards, Darnell. Had to smile when I read about your little mishap with the stencil, that's the sort of thing I would do!
It was was so incredible hot here last week. No air conditioning anywhere, so it was just as hot inside as outside, many schools closed for a couple of days. Thankfully it's much cooler this week. We even had a rain storm this afternoon and it was lovely to be out in it.

Hi Darnell, like you we're having wonderful weather - not so in other parts of our country either. You've again inspired us with your lovely cards... featuring 2 step stenciling - something I haven't tried yet... but it looks like you had some fun... super cool Chrissy card to add to your stash too... have a lovely day - and and especially wonderful one tomorrow... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, hugs Robyn

Oh WOW what a fabulous CAS version of Stephanie's sketch! I love the way you've made the chunky sentiment part of the horizontal element and then let your snowman shine in the "accent" spot. So clever and beautiful! Thanks for joining our Jingle Belles fun this fortnight!

Ha Ha! That's definitely the sort of thing I would do with stencils :o)
Pretty cards. Love the mono chrome snowman. Makes me feel cool - even though it's been scorchio for us in Yorkshire xxx

Thank you for the giggle re the stencil, Darnell - sounds like something I would do!! As I have a couple of folk who ring me and talk for ages, I tend to put those calls in particular on 'speaker phone' and carry on doing whatever, and i could see myself doing something very similar!!
Love those flowers - and well done on letting the boys off for a holiday - sorry to hear Hammy is slowing down a bit - maybe he needs the help of a 4th of July firework??
Your minty snow card is gorgeous - there's snow in the South Island at the moment - it can stay there - the wind and rain are cold enough up here, after a series of frosty mornings followed by sunny days...
