Pink Lilies and a Christmas Cardinal

Hello Stamplings!

How are you this fine day? I do hope Mother Nature is treating you to some beautiful weather, wherever you are!

Onefer
It's D = Dies week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar and I was inspired by a few challenges to bring out my "Lovely Lily of the Valley" die by Lawn Fawn. The Beautiful Blossoms Challenge Mood Board features lilies and the Color Hues Challenge colors are pink and turkoice. For the base and frame, I used some hoarded paper which has a soft fiber texture and the pretty paper I used for the flowers and leaves is from Craft Consortium.

The NBUS frame die is "Embossed Skinny Frame" by Ink to Paper and the sediment strip is from Memory Box.

I'm sure you've all heard the wonderful news that my dear friend Loll has relaunched her CAS Christmas Challenge! I love this challenge and I definitely need the nudge to keep rolling on my Christmas cards. 2026 is rapidly whooshing by, so thank you, Lolly!
For the first challenge, the brief is BIRDS. The furballs and I went through the Bird Drawer and suddenly Stanley got to giggling over an old wooden stamp called, "Bluebird," by Stamps Happen. The artist is Caroline Shores Wright and I love her images.

We never have cardinals in this part of the country,
but Hammy suggested I paint the bluebird red and turn her into a cardinal. Well, why not? After painting her with my Ziggies, I remembered there was black somewhere on a cardinal's head, so I used the Googler to look at photos. Eep! I forgot they also have spiked hairdos! By now I was committed, so I used a fine point pen and did the best I could with that!

After wards, I noticed her hooded eyeballs disappeared in all the red and black, so I added some tiny googlie eyes so she could see to fly. And I didn't have a small poinsettia die to cover the flower, so I simply fussy-cut the image and snipped the flower off and gave it to Stanley to decorate his cage.

For the layout, I used the sketch from the current 52 Christmas Card Throwdown Challenge, using snowy vellum for the stripey background and then the boys went to town schplattering snow on the image to play in the current Christmas Kickstart Challenge

We had a blast with this one!
~~~
Enjoy your week! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse
and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!
Mwah!
*Life is too short!
Well it’s tipping it down with rain where I am, but your pretty pink lily of the valley card has brightened my day already, and what a pretty photo of them too. Your cardinal made me smile too, and your facelift on him works a treat 😂xxx
Oh Darnell these are two totally different and utterly fabulous cards!
Love your pink Lily of the Valley - and why not!
As for your bluebird turned cardinal... he's quite the character with those googly eyes.
Glad to hear 'the boys' are both helping you craft - the results of their labours are stunning
Two fab cards Darnell, love the LOTV in the Color Hues colours and your googly eyued cardinal made me smile! Sadly the weather here is far from summery, the OH is thinking of firing up the kitchen range it's so grey and damp, a far cry from the soaring temps of only 10 days ago!! :)
Very pretty floral card and love how you worked with the bird stamp to come up with a cardinal for Christmas. He's looking a tad startled I fancy 🤣. Maybe he's wondering where the snow came from in June??
Your lil of the valley is so pretty. It's too bad we can't get the scent of real lily of the valley. They smell so sweet. That cardinal cracks me up. He looks like he ran smack into the patio door, which they do sometimes here.
ahhhhh, le Miguet du Bois!! My mom just loved them in her shade garden and a dab behind each ear, D! If I concentrate, I'm able to remember their fragrance. What a gorgeous little bouquet on your card today!
You've done a bang-up job of changing the bluebird to a cardinal, my friend - right down to the last standing feather on his noggin!
LOVE your pink lily-of-the-valley flowers. I thought they were always white, so thank you for letting me know. Your flowers are beautfiul and I love the framing. Your cardinal is awesome. Great work using your bluebird stamp ... he looks awesome in red! :) So beautiful on the piece of vellum with polka-dot embossing. Thanks so much for joining us at CAS Christmas, my friend! xx
So fun to have the time and make the time to visit you, you always inspire with your words and creations. Both cards are fabulous and I too am so glad to have a reason for making Christmas cards year round! I love cardinals, we don't get them here either, but I still love them and I love how you altered the blue bird to the cardinal. thanks for joining us at CAS Christmas!
Beautiful dainty pink lilies in your valley! They fill the embossed frame (love that!) just perfectly, and look stylin' with their turquoise leaves. As for your cardinal, I never would have suspected there was any fixing going on there. He's lovely and perfect! I adore the original stamp, too. I'm excited for Loll's challenge and have cards in the works. Thank goodness it's a month long opportunity. I'm not so good at CAS.
Your pink lily of the valley are just as lovely as they can be, Darnell! It's such a feminine card. Great job on your cardinal too! So happy to spot him in the CAS Christmas gallery today!
We have lots of lily of the valley around our house, but it has only white flowers. Sure wish some of it was pink, like your pretty bouquet. Also, you did a bang-up job turning that bluebird into a cardinal. I love seeing the red cardinals against our winter snow. I used to watch a cardinal pair (male and female) outside my office window when I worked from home. Seeing them always made my day brighter and better!
Your Lily of the Valley card is gorgeous - love the interest of the patterned paper on the leaves and that frame is stunning! Your cardinal is fabulous too - even if he does look a little like he's been caught doing something he shouldn't have! Hugs!
I'm a day late to this party, but I'm glad to have been invited in! Love the pink Lilies of the Valley--a perfect choice for our Color Hues Challenge. I love all the dimension and the textured paper and frame. The transformation of the bluebird to the cardinal is amazing! Although the bluebird is the NYS bird, I've only seen one of them in the over 50 years I've lived here. I used to think cardinals lived here only in the winter, but they are here year-round. Yesterday there were two flying in and out around our patio, and they are frequent visitors to our feeders. Thanks for adding your beautiful florals to the gallery at Color Hues! Have a fabulous week!
I love this pink lily of the valley and you were so clever to cut them from patterned paper! They look right at home on the textured paper. I love seeing this in the Color Hues gallery! And I'm pickled tink with your cardinal and I swear he's blowing us a kiss! Yay for adding to the Christmas stash!
Darnell, what a beautiful cardinal holiday card you've created! I agree that those googlie eyes give her a fun facial expression. It's so very clever how you used the dotted embossing folder to create the "stripes" in the inspirational sketch. Thank you for sharing with 52CCT!!! -Donna
I love lilies of the valley. They're so delicate and understated, yet they surpass other flowers with their captivating scent. Your card is a beautiful tribute to the charm of these flowers. And the second card. Few people have the creativity to transform this sweet little bird from the stamp you have into this ruffled cardinal! You're a genius, because if you hadn't mentioned the modification, I'd be sure it was the original stamp. Hats off to your creative inventiveness.
