Cheers!

Hello Stamplings!

I hope this finds you well and I hope you had a wonderful Father's Day weekend! The family came for dinner and it was a treat to sit down just with them. (We normally host bigger gatherings.) We were blessed with beautiful weather, which I know isn't the case for some of you. I hope it calms down and cools off where needed!

Today is "Anything Goes" week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar, so the sky's the limit. I might be weird (I see you cocking your head at the modifier!), but I don't do as well without boundaries. I have too much schtuff!

Thankfully, other challenges give me guidance when my mind is going in a million different directions. The current Color Hues challenge by Carol is yellow and black. I've been wanting to bring this very old set from Altenew out of mothballs. This one is called, "Painted Butterflies." They are from 2014! They are easy to layer and since the invention of the MISTI, it's even easier now.

I decided to use the whole set to make my own DSP. The lads did a light ink schplattering and I used a gold and black birthday sediment strip from Memory Box to finish it off.

I'm also playing in: Addicted to Stamps and More (Any Occasion).

For my Christmas card design, I used the sketch by Narelle from Freshly Made Sketches, but to make it work for my die idea, I turned the sketch on its side.
The die is "Moose & Pine Trees" from Cottage Cutz. To cut the rectangles and silver panel, I used "Dotted Rectangles" from Sizzix. I struggled with whether to add a sediment and, if so, where, until I saw this teeny tiny "cheers" stamp in the "Holiday Greetings Mix 1" from SSS. It's really a fabulous set of varied sediment stamps.

~~~
I was going to launch into an essay about why deer remain deer even if there is more than one, yet tree becomes trees, if there is more than one. Then, when I typed the above, I saw from the name that the critters on the die were moose, not deer. Still, why don't moose get an 's?' Cows get an 's.' Or, at the very least, shouldn't moose become meese in the way that goose becomes geese?
And who gets to decide these things? They didn't ask me for my opinion. Did they ask you?
Which reminds me. Did you know watermelons now come in yellow? On the inside? I tried one and it did my head in. It looks yellow, but tastes the same as the traditional red ones! But that begs the question: if it tastes the same as a red one, why make a yellow one?
~~~

Enjoy your week! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!

*Life is too short!

Terrific cards, contemplative commentary and surprising fruit! I didn't know that about watermelon. Thanks for a very interesting and fun blog post. Glad you had a fun Father's Day celebration! We did, too. :) Have a wonderful week, Darnell!

Love the pretty yellow butterflies. Reminds me of a butterfly garden where there are so many butterflies flying around. I like the dotted rectangles and how they set off each image. You know, I have contemplated those same grammatical questions. And why don't we ever get input on those questions.

You never fail to brighten my day with your musings! Ask any ESL learner about the oddities of the English language, and I'm sure they'd have something to say about the difficulty of trying to master the English language. Love your whimsical butterflies--beautifully stamped. It's not showing up in the Color Hues gallery--so be sure to get it posted! It's just delightful. Love the Christmas card as well--it's a CAS delight! I finally made 10 foiled background panels for Christmas cards this weekend. Last year at this time I had 50 completed Christmas cards.

Two lovely cards, one from the Supplies Archives and the other as cute as a bug! I'm a little partial to the meese... They work beautifully on the layout.
I have not seen a yellow watermelon, but am so glad it tastes "normal", as the purple asparagus does not -- such a bummer when you love the original (in both cases)!

We had beautiful weather for Father's Day, too, and our son was here to visit. That's always nice! Your butterflies are so beautiful in black and yellow, Darnell! Such movement in those stamps. I can relate to setting boundaries and so I always have a self challenge of sorts going on to help me focus -- somewhat like your I.D.E.A.S. Calendar. I love how you cut apart the Moose & Pine Trees! It's such a cute die. It looks like you even cut extras for layering. I could be wrong, but thinking I see the telltale shadow. Love it! The English language is full of confusion, oftentimes seemingly slapped together with so much of it a memory challenge rather than phonetics. "They" say it's the most difficult language to learn. Oh, and I did not know about yellow watermelon!

You always make me smile with your musing over the strange things we find in our language. It all makes you think. Love your yellow butterflies and yellow watermelon. Your little moose are rather cute too. Glad you were able to enjoy a small happy family gathering too xx

The butterflies are fabulous, so bright and happy. I love your moose card too. Great take on the sketch. Thanks for clearing up the taste thing about the yellow melons. I always give em the side-eye at the grocery.

Your cards are wonderful as always, Darnell, but the moose becoming meese did me in LOL!! I had a yellow melon last year without knowing I had bought a yellow one. It was tasty, but does mess with you head!

Two wonderful cards, Darnell. The first one is so striking in yelllow and black and I love the cute scene on your second card.
..... why don't sheep become sheeps and shouldn't ox become oxs?

Love both of your wonderful cards Darnell. The yellow butterflies look great. Love your take on the FMS sketch with those cute moose and the trees. We have had yellow watermelons for awhile here in Florida and they taste the same as the red ones to me.

Two fabulous cards, and you are so right about all the oddities of english language 😂xxx

Gorgeous cards as always and I especially like the Christmas one. You've addressed at least two of life's mysteries at the end of your post and no, I've not been consulted on these anomalies either 🤣🤣

You just made me laugh. You are right - why not add the s. And also why do we need a yellow watermelon:):):) BEautiful cards but I especially love the Christmas one.

Hmm...lots to ponder my friend, me thinks you think too much! wink wink!! Just yesterday I was at Costco with Dina and she bought a yellow watermelon...very interesting, didn't know there was such a thing...and if it tastes the same, what kind of GMO did they do to that poor red watermelon? Back to your cards, they are fabulous!! I especially love your Moose and Pine trees, that is so clever and the dotted rectangles really add to the whole scene!! You are amazing!

Thank you for my morning chuckle Darnell and for making me wonder about yellow watermelons and Meese!! Haha! Only you my friend! Back to the cards... Your butterflies are soooo pretty in the yellow and black and totally stand out against the splattered background! I have that stamp set too and think it's been 2014 since I played with it...hmmmmmm?!! But anyway, thanks so much for sharing this lovely card with us at Color Hues! I also love your Christmas card and how you flipped Narelle's sketch...well done my friend!! Hugs. Marlinda :0)

You are so funny, Darnell, and it makes my heart happy to read your blog posts. With all your purging, I can't believe you still have that butterfly set but it is beautiful, especially in the yellow and black. I'm loving your meeses and pine trees. Their size fits the rectangles and therefore the sketch perfectly.

It would be quite the surprise to cut into a watermelon and find it yellow! I agree, WHY? As far as plurals go, it makes no sense. Your yellow butterflies make perfect sense and they are so pretty! Thanks so much for using the Color Hues colors! It looks so pretty in the gallery! The little moose and trees are delightful and your use of the sketch is spot on!

Wow, those butterflies really pop or should I say fly off the page Darnell, and the added bits of black as per the layering looks great. The second another Christmas make and what great use of the sketch with the pretty layering with the Dotted Rectangle set and then the added trees and moose pair and a lovely word stamp used to finish it. Glad you had a lovely Father's Day with the family and who knew a watermelon could be yellow within and not red. I think I would much rather open one up to see the bright red flesh within which you can't wait to sink your teeth into..the yellow one is rather boring I think..lol. x

I am sitting here in a coffee shop on vacation with hubby and I just read to him the end of your blog post and the discussions just blossomed from there. LOL. Speaking of Deers...more than one Doe has an S. It is Does and I don't mean DOES. LOL Anyway thanks for the chuckle from both of us. As for your butterfly card, that set is one of my favorites and I am glad you brought it out to play with for Color Hues, it looks lovely in Yellow and Black. Your Christmas card is darling too. I do not believe I have ever seen Moose die cuts before. Thanks for playing at Color Hues.

Hi Darnell, again you have me chuckling with your witty post.... you just make the whole card making process fun and you've created two lovely cards... glad to see one is Christmas.... and that's a huge fun play with words - the English language is crazy. Have a wonderful day, hugs Robyn

Think the butterfly card is stunning!
I don't know who says how to spell words, most is from how we use them, but it makes it not easier for those which english is not the first (and not the second) language... But what you typed is something I can spent a lot of my time thinking about... Here we are in the midst of a heatweave and I'm longing for next week with 'normal' temps of 28 degrees... Hugs, Gerrina

Two fabulous cards, Darnell - love your black butterflies on the yellow background & your great take on the sketch with the mooses :) As to why the yellow watermelon, maybe more color in the fruit salad? Could take a while to ponder that one along with the craziness of the English language...

l don't like the look of the yellow melon but like you say they taste the same as the red and they are so juicy yummy, like your cards so beautifully put together x
