Hello Stamplings!
For all who celebrated yesterday, I hope you had a lovely Mother's Day whether you spent the day with family, friends, or memories.π«Άπ
In addition to Mother's Day with the family, I had a great time with my dear friend last week! Now it is good to be back with you during D=Die week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar!

"Take a Hike" is truly an official holiday, but it isn't until November 17th. That date happens to be son Dan's birthday and he grew up to be a big hiker, but this card is not for him. Instead ...
... I'm borrowing the holiday for grandson Adam who is studying for finals. College is very stressful, so when he can, Adam gets out in nature to hike and fish. When I saw these hiking boots ("Wander Boots" from Spellbinders), I immediately got them to surprise Adam with a card!
The boots die was a bit fiddly for me, but I love how realistic and detailed they are. (Next time I'm going to scruff them up a bit!) The white heat-embossed sediment is from PTI and the e/f is, "Textured Impressions Square Lattice" from SU.
I'm playing in Allsorts (Monochromatic or A/G), Snippets Playground (A/G with snippets ~ I used snippets for all the boot and sediment bits), and 613 Avenue Create (A/G w/ option of May flowers).

AAA Birthday is celebrating their 7th blog birthday, so naturally, I made a cake!
I decided to make a blue velvet cake, topped with a thin blueberry glaze, which I lined with my Wilton Tip No. 26 [fine-line]. I framed the border using my NBUS "Double Frames" from PB, but I only added one frame. The scalloped edge and score lines give the fondant visual interest, which Hammy elevated by bringing out the schprayer! The light dusting of spring colored baking ink was perfect against the deep blue-violet glaze.
But then! Poor thing! Just as he was finishing up, Hammy's foot caught in the tubing and down he went schplat on his face! Oh, my, how we laughed and laughed! (He is still on a sugar high from cleaning himself!) Wiping up the mess and the tears that were running down my leg, I suddenly realized that the client was on her way over to pick up the cake, so I quickly added a second frame layer, which nicely covered the schplat. Phew!
Next, I pulled the whipped cream greeting from the fridge, so glad I had made it earlier! To create the layers of solid and fine lines, I used my NBUS die from poppystamps, called, "Birthday Wishes Moonlight Script," using an off-set spatula and Wilton Tip No. 103 [ultra].
Happy Birthday and many, many more!
I'm playing in: AAA Birthday (A/G 7th birthday!π), Just Us Girls (Die Week: Sentiments), and Krafty Chicks (Birthday).

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!

Both cards are perfect in their execution, and with special meaning for your grandson on the first card -- finishing any year of college is a special feat and needs to be celebrated. Your Birthday card is quite the artistic endeavor with all that baking, frosting, splattering and edging -- it will be held dearly in the recipient's heart. I hope you and Hammy have both gotten yourself cleaned up and put back together!
Great cards !!!!!
Love those shoes !!!
Darnell, I love the cards and your stories! Still can't believe the twins are old enough to be in college! xoxo
Happy Mother's Day to you, Darnell. Your cards are wonderful. Love the hiking boots and I hope your grandson aces his finals. The birthday card and story are absolutely charming! I hope you have a fantastic week.
First of all many thanks for joining us in the Allsorts challenge with those fab hiking boots - so much detail and brilliant choice of E/F for the background. Wonderful cake too and such an amusing tale attached to it. Looks good enough to eat.
These are awesome hiking boots, Dolly! I hope Adam does well on his exams. I know he'll enjoy the card and knowing that you are thinking of him. Your baking experience sounds like mine these days. The added frame was a great fix and I'm getting a sugar high just looking at it!
Happy Mother's Day and good luck to your grandson on his exams. Those boots look amazing. Love the cake card! I always enjoy seeing what you are up to!
Two great cards, Darnell! Perfect one for Adam, for sure. Good luck to him. Love the story about the second one. LOL!
With you on the fiddly die situation but your card turned out great, and he will be so touched at the personalization! Hey, I miss your Twofer Challenge and seeing how creative everyone was - do you ever consider starting that up again? :o) Hugs, Nancy J
I do love those hiking boots! The laces look so real. And your description of your cake card had my mouth watering. If only I had some cake in the house.
Oh my goodness!
What an adventure!
The hiking boots are fabulous, and so is the cake!
Thank you for joining us at Allsorts!
It sounded like I was watching the closed caption of Ultimate Baking Championship with your cake commentary, Darnell. I need Hammy's help with delicate spray like that and the sentiment definitely looks like whipped cream from the spritz can. Thanks for sharing your card with us at Just Us Girls. The hiking boots are great for anyone who loves the outdoors. I'm sure Adam will love that you are thinking of him while he's cramming for exams.
Oh the way you have with words, Darnell. I needed this giggle today. Thankyou.
Your grandson is going to love this! Both cards are fabulous. Thanks for the giggles, Darnell and thanks for playing along at Just Us Girls!
I can't say how much I love that boot card. I'm sure he will too. How nice that Dan honors his birthday date by hiking. That is a fun cake and so colorful. Poor Hammy, he tries so hard. Hope you are both cleaned up and especially your legs!
Two super cards! I do love those hiking boots!
I love both of your cards Darnell and the story you tell with them. The hiking boots look great and I know Adam will love the card. It looks like you and Hammy had a fun time with your birthday "cake". Love it.
Such fun hiking boots for Adam and I love your birthday cake, Darnell - looks yummy!!
Those boots are terrific! In an earlier time, they would have made a great card for my husband who was a serious hiker until his hiking buddy sadly passed away from cancer. Have a great week!
Those hiking boots look great Darnell, and I love the background embosssing and the lovely bright yellow sentiment banner stands out brilliantly. The laces really look as though they go through the eyeholes..a lovely card for Adam with his finals coming up. The cake card is extremely yummy and I definitely see the blueberry and fondant and the whipped cream sentiment. x
I love the boots! I feel sorry for all those doing exams, and I’m sure he’ll appreciate your surprise card. I love your take on the cake theme too, it’s made me hungry π….have a great day xxx
Awesome hiking boots card, nice embossed background too, we almost always hike daily on our vacations. Stunning birthday card with awesome background! Always enjoy your hammy stories!
Adam sounds like a fine young man and I love that he enjoys The Great Outdoors when he has a chance, no doubt picking up that appreciation from Dad Dan. These boots are perfect for either of them, and could even be filled with flowers for another occasion. What a great masculine card! Your blue velvet cake is scrumptious with all the fluff and sprinkles. The sentiment looks just like of those candy cake toppers. I hope Hammy didn't crash too hard from his sugar high. I know how that feels, tsk. Thanks for the giggles, Darnell!
Gorgeous first card Darnell the booths are fantastic so realistic looking with a fab background 2nd card equally as lovey nice surprise too xx
What a fantastic card Darnell. I love the double frames and the die cut sentiment is perfect. Thanks for sharing with us at Just Us Girls challenge. Hugs, Denise x
