Roses Are Any Color!

Hello Stamplings!

O jp[e upir javomg ... oops, right fingers, wrong keys! I hope you are enjoying the long Memorial Day weekend here in America! We will always remember and be forever grateful to all the men and women who have bravely given their lives in service to our country.♡

During the week I did some spring cleaning which I find weirdly enjoyable, but I also made a few cards because, you know, I'm not completely nuts. Did you snicker or was that a hairball in your throat?

You might recognize both Jen's sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and the colors from Color Hues. My friend Lynette made pretty cards recently using one of my favorite techniques. It is known by many names, but I've always referred to it as 'direct-to-stamp' because you apply color directly to your stamp with markers, spritz the stamp with water, and then stamp the image onto paper.

I happen to have a NBUS stamp which I thought would be perfect for the technique. It's called "Rose" and it's from Art Stamp (carabelle-studio.fr). I had success using classic red and pink markers for the rose and I was mulling over design ideas for those images when, by some miracle, I remembered the Color Hues colors and wallah! Did you know purple roses symbolize enchantment, love at first sight, royalty, mystery, and spiritual growth? (I think AI got a little carried away there.)

You can't see it, but Hammy gently winked the rose, being careful not to let the colors run. Hammy has very short legs which work great on the wheel, but when it comes to chasing running colors, he just sits and watches. Ask us how we know! The frame is from Papertrey Ink and the sediment is from My Favorite Things.

I'm also playing in the Allsorts Challenge (Anything Goes). Allsorts is celebrating their 17th birthday! Congratulations!!

I used a NBUS book die from Pinkfresh Studio called "Floral Tale" for this design. It comes with lots of stencils and flower dies, but for this inaugural outing, I made a Christmas card design using evergreens. The NBUS 3D e/f is from SSS, called "Delicate Pine Branches." The tiny evergreen stamp and sediment are from GKW.

Today is the 25th, which means it's the start of this month's Rudolph's Day Challenge and the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar is A = Anything Goes. I'm also playing in Addicted to Stamps and More (Christmas).

Stanley Redux

Just as a reminder Hammy and Stanley went to stay with our neighbors last year while The Mister was laid up. During that time, their little girl Daphne fell in love with Stanley, so he continued living with her and we walked back and forth often to let the lads have time together.

Last week we learned from Daphne that her Dad had been transferred and the family was moving to Sydney. Sadly for her, hamsters are not allowed in Australia.
We had quite an emotional goodbye with lots of stories, hugs, and tears.

We will miss Daphne, but happily for us, Stanley is back home and the two critters are elastic to be back together again! And Hammy and I can use the young 'un around here to keep us on our toes!

~~~
Enjoy your week!
No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse
and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!
*Life is too short!
Two fab cards Darnell, love the soft, stamped rose inspired by the Color Hues colours. Glad you're enjoying your holiday weekend, over here its our Spring Bank holiday and it's cracking the flags, most unusual. Currently I'm inside with all the curtains closed to keep out the 30+' C from outside! Just watched a programme about a trip on the local canal, Had to stop it a couple of times to see if we made the cut!! :)
You did an amazing job with your rose, Darnell! I marvel at your skill with the direct-to-stamp technique. It's been a minute since I did this technique, a year, in fact (I looked it up). What a gorgeous purple rose! I love your idea of using the book for a Christmas card! I know I have a similar die, but now I'm mulling over possible sentiment stamps... feeling inspired! Girls just wanna have fun. Thanks Darnell!
Your beautiful purple rose makes quite the wonderful statement on that wonderful card! The green frame is just perfect. I had no idea how many things a purple rose can represent. Good to hear the critters are back together again, but how lovely that you shared Stanley with Daphne. Thanks for sharing your talent with us at Color Hues!
That purple rose is absolutely divine, my dear! (Don't I sound posh?) I don't know that I've ever seen one IRL, but I'm certain they exist.Your holiday card is also charming and refreshingly different from the usual. Love them both! It sounds like Hammy and Stanley are once again your right hand twosome, busy overseeing the work in the playhouse and adding their sparkle whenever and wherever possible.
LOVE your purple rose, Dolly. I have never seen one in person, but have seen photos, and yours is a beautiful as I've ever seen. Perfect technique for colouring your NBUS image. The lime green looks so amazing against the deep purple. Love the framing and the sentiment. Beautiful card! And I love your book die. This is so pretty with the soft pine branch stampings. xx
Love both of your fabulous cards, I didn’t know that about purple roses 😳. Glad to see the boys back together, but poor Daphne 😢, maybe she could have a koala instead 🤔 xxx
That rose is stunning, Darnell. The technique gives lots of lights and darks that make it look more realistic. The book die is a fun way to send holiday greetings and I can't wait to see what else you do with it. Sorry you're losing great neighbors but so glad Stanley is back with his buddy.
Congrats on another wonderful Christmas card done! I love the first card, and the technique. :-) I have several stampings that I need to get on cards. (I actually have most of the patterned papers picked out and should be able to get them finished pretty quickly - when I get a chance to work on them!) Beautiful.
Love that purple rose! But even more I love the book die - it looks fabulous layered on those various backgrounds. So glad to hear Hammy and Stanley are reunited!
Love that single rose, it is lovely. The book is fantastic and I'm thinking I have to have that die. Daphne leaving almost brought tears to my eyes, how sad to have to go so far away from her friend. Thank goodness Stanley has Hammy and they are so close.
That rose is stunning as are the colours. The roses are all blooming early in my garden this year. Courtesy of the current heat wave I think xx
Love your rose Darnell, your shading of the colours before spritzing is exquisite, and the misting must have been very light for such clear definition!!
So glad to hear that the boys are together again - I had missed that Stanley was next door....
Blessings
First of all a belated thank you for joining in with the birthday celebrations on the Allsorts challenge - yet again this post has only just come to my notice because I was having a trawl through my blog list in search of some of my 'regulars'. It's so annoying when Mr Blogger seems reluctant to bring names to the top of my list when people put up a new post. It is so random too🙄. Fabulous cards as always and good news that your 'lads' are back together.
