Have A Heart and Enjoy the Ride!

Hello Stamplings!

In the middle of winter with bone-deep cold, rain, sleet, snow, and gray skies for a lot of people on this side of the world, I just love seeing all the hearts and flowers beginning to pop up all over Blogland. It's very uplifting at a time when we need it!

So thank you St. Valentine for being the next holiday to distract us with all kinds of heart art! Here's my first of 2019:
The star of this QACAS Valentine design is a relatively new NBUS from Poppystamps (Embossed Love). I usually like to keep my stamps and dies for two or three years in order for them to become atmospherically tolerant of the Playhouse thermodynamic conditions before I subject their tender surfaces and edges to abuse. Wait. What? It sounds good though, right? You may borrow that as your own excuse for having lots of NBUS (never-before-used-schtuff).

But I digest. The beautiful paper is another vo piece from my stash which I'm determined to stop hoarding. The little heart was cut from red fun foam and glossified.

Twofer
Another QACAS design, this time using a really old (but still fun) stamp and die set from PTI called Road Trip. Obviously the rather well-built and possibly scary person I put behind the wheel has gone over the hill and it's all downhill from here! I stenciled the cobblestone road with a TH stencil and Hammy did his special winking trick all over the Bug.

ETA: Hammy picked a name out of the hat and the winner of the butterfly die from this post is JoAnn. Congratulations, JoAnn!

Your cards are beautiful. Love the butterflies on both cards. And why not have a butterfly on a Christmas card, it looks lovely with the silver embossed tree.
Thanks for sharing about the thyroid.
Have a wonderful day. Hugs, JoAnn

  2. Hi Darnell, don't know if it is just me, but I am not getting told when you have updated your blog. It's twice now, that I only knew you had when I clicked on your blog to see if you had.

    Fab cards.

Hope you have a nice day. Sue

Good to see Hammy is still helping out, even if he tempts you to use your new dies too soon for them to acclimate properly... :)

  8. Hahahahaha ... atmospherically tolerant ... tee hee, Darnell ... woe to anyone who doesn't acclimatise their crafty goodies before use ... it probably invalidates the guarantee! What a fabulous cobbled road your bug driver is travelling down ... he sure looks determined to get to the bottom of that hill! Love love love your embossed love over that luscious textured blue ... and that heart ... gorgeous! Who knew craft foam could be glossified so deliciously ... well, you of course, but you are a trend setter! LYAMYLMA! Big hugs and bisous, Anita :)

  18. Two lovely cards as always Darnell. I acclimatise my NBUS stuff too...first to the craft room (several months)..then to their new home (filed away...more months), then when I think the shock will be greater for me than them...I actually use them! ...lol..IF I can remember where i have put them. LOVE (sorry the first card with its tiny heart...great die, and I think the second one is very ingeniously thought out. Hugs xx

  21. Fun post Darnell. It's very cold our end and there is snow in the distance on the mountains, which look very beautiful. Such an elegant first card and the texture is gorgeous and love the die cut sentiment and that squishy red heart. What a fun second card and loving the vibrant colours, the stencilling and the bug and sentiment x

  22. Two fabulous cards Darnell, and I love the die cut sentiment with the pretty red foam heart appearing to dangle from it, and the background blue texture card is glorious. The sweet little car journeying along the road is an inspired design for the LIM Challenge especially, and the stencilled cobbles works well, if a trifle bumpy for that cute little car..lol, and what lovely bright colours too. I must admit I do have one or two NBUS items which are waiting to come out to play. x

  23. I love the simplicity of the Love card and that bright, shiny heart. Your cobblestone road is great and I love that little "bug" going over the hill. Such a fun card.

  24. great twofers, the over the hill really made me smile :)

  25. TFS your Twofer cards, Dolly. Fun and cheerful cards to brighten our day. I am off to camp (trailer) at the beach for 3 days to celebrate Denny's birthday. The sun is even suppose to come out. No...we will not be wading in the water and will be bundled up, but still enjoying our hikes on the beach and in the forest. Especially enjoying the evenings by our fire:-)

    Hugs..Nancy

  26. both cards are so sweet. I love the first one with the blue and the heart.

  27. Now that is the perfect CAS Valentine. Lots of dreamy blue, ideal sentiment and that adorable little, shiny red heart. #LOVEIT! As for the bug and the mystery person (probably a Uber serial killer) that is the best, most imaginative care I've seen for that challenge. I smell a winner...or is that just exhaust...hmmmm.

  28. Both cards are beautiful, I love lots of colour at this time of year so you have really hit the spot. I just love how you were inspired to create the LIM card, very clever thinking there and a wonderful result! Hugs, Annie xx

  29. I really love your VW Bug card...so reminiscent of my past. Owned over the years 5 different ones and learned to drive on the first one. Happy sigh. Hugs from cold MN.

And how creative to turn this sketch into a road way! LOVE IT! Your description of it being over the hill made me laugh ... so many of us are just that! :) Great design with the cobblestone stenciling. LOVE that lime green card ... need sunglasses! Love, Lolly

  34. Oh how cute are these CAS cards! I love them both but can really relate to the over-the-hill beetle! Fun idea :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. The first is perfectly fabulous and CAS, the second is too much fun! A terrific pair Darnell!

  36. Nothing better on a valentine than a red, puffy, glossy heart. It pops off the blue and I love that word die. Fabulous road for that car to travel down.

  37. I'd say your reasoning for not using new items immediately upon purchase is spot on! They definitely need time to acclimate to new surroundings and atmospheric conditions. Two great cards today. The NBUS "Embossed Love" is really nice. It will work nicely for engagement and wedding cards, too. Or even for new babies if you put a "little" with it, as in "Little Love." The over-the-hill card will be great for a masculine birthday. I struggle with those so your card is just the inspiration I needed!

  46. Its been yucky all over the country Auntie and I think everyone is glad to see some "springy" cards in blogland. I know I am too! I am totally in love with your beautiful Valentine card! The die is amazing and so cool looking! I love the beautiful blue paper you used too, but I never thought to use foam and glossify it! lol Clever girl you! Your twofer is so cute! Love the little bug car and love that you put a driver in it. Glad he is on the down hill now. lol Love the bright green background and the blue bug. One of my favorite color combo's! Hugs, Brenda

  47. Oh, fun! Love the love card with color, but still CAS. That little dangling heart is so cute! Sorry to hear the Cards in Envy challenge is closing. I played that occasionally as I think it's such a good idea. Get those cards in the mail! Super cute card with the sketch, too! Leave it to you to come up with a great idea and use fabulous colors in the process!

  48. I'm so glad to hear that I'm taking proper care of my stamps by getting them "atmospherically" ready for use!! Many are currently patiently waiting! Both cards are fabulous. Love the die cut 'love' and that precious heart! The fun bug seems to be on the downslope on your pretty cobblestone road--hopefully not to bumpy a ride. The bright green is wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Thanks for the excuse for why I take so long to use all that NBUS! I knew there was a good reason. (It may be that I buy too much to, but Nah, that couldn't be it!) Love your die cut LOVE with the shiny red heart and the soft blue background paper! And your cobblestone road is brillian! The bug looks like the one we had when we were first married except we didn't have any sparkles.

  50. I also like colorful blogland in this days. :-) Your Valentine card is so sweet with the big word and cute little heart on blue background. I am impressed at fantastic road trip card. It wakes up sweet memories. Our first car was VW beetle and as children were small, we took a lot of road trips in this funny little car. :-)
Have a nice weekend! Hugs, Sonja

  55. Again, fabulous creative cards! I like your excuse for the NBUS that you have...must remember that one...I thought it was just the wood that we purchased for our hardwood floors that had to be "acclimated"

I had a good day today. I found two craft items that had "Missing" for a long time. (I found them in rooms other than my craft room! (so why did I keep looking for them in my craft room? I should have known better! smile
