Oops!

Greetings,

Even though I'm trying to stay off the streets of Blogland to concentrate on trip preparations, I still have an active hamster who has his own Chromebook for checking challenges. That means in spite of my best efforts, sometimes I have to drop everything and play cards with him.

Like this.
BTW, that's spose to be a pee-pee puddle, regardless of the sediment. The message works for pee-pee, too. I don't want you to think I am being gross while you are trying to enjoy your tea and toast! My thinking was that grandma is on the move, stepping over the doggie puddle to take him outside. But now that I look at it, I see it looks like everyone is having an oopsie moment! Hey, don't judge until you're a grandma!

While looking through my stamps to find something that might be original for Less Is More's challenge, Hammy spotted this Art Impressions stamp, which I watercolored with my Ziggies. I went looking for an "Oops" sediment, but I don't have one. I could have made one with my Concord & 9th alphas, but when I spotted this Stamping Bella sediment, the search ended. (This fun sediment is meant to accompany a diapered and bottled toddler image, but I thought it was apropopo for this card's wee-wee splatters.)

You'll have to pardon my errant pink schmear near the right edge. Paint happens.

A Squirrel By Any Other Name

In critter news, last month the Mister hollered in the door on his way to work that a couple of squirrels were playing in the front yard. I grabbed my camera and enjoyed several minutes with them. There was a big fluffy squirrel
and a baby squirrel.
I thought the baby squirrel looked a bit odd, but I've only seen grown-up squirrels visiting, so what did I know? He or she was certainly an imp crawling up inside the wheel well of the Mister's truck!
A couple of weeks went by and then we saw two more baby squirrels playing in the back yard among my potted plants near the Playhouse. So cute!

Until they both took off and dove under the corner of the Playhouse.

Odd, I thought, why didn't they just scamper up the tree like their parents would do?

The next day they were back. I got a picture of one of them edging out from the corner of the Playhouse while the Mister was off on a motorcycle ride.
When the Mister got home, he told me that he had seen baby squirrels just like ours out along the road. And then he said, "The reason they aren't scampering up the trees is because they are GROUND squirrels!"

Oops.

We asked Mr. Google just to make sure. The tails aren't as fluffy and their front legs are much shorter. We've never had ground squirrels in the neighborhood before, but a nearby highway is being widened and we think they are being forced out of their own neighborhood. I feel badly about that and Hammy is thrilled to have new playmates, but I don't want them nesting under my Playhouse!

I think it might be time for me to get a mini-doxie to chase them out of the yard. I will housebreak him or her first so I don't look like my card! (Wait. Is that a poem?)

~~~
Thank you for all your good wishes concerning my upcoming trip to England! Some of you thought I was leaving on June 16th, but I'm not leaving until July 16th. You will still see me here in the coming month, just not as often.
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
  1. Now wiping tea off the screen. Brilliant and hilarious card! Just thinking about my 90 year old Mum and wondering whether *all* those piddle puddles have come from the dog, or is the poor thing just getting the blame?
  6. Darnell I am still smiling over your card - so glad Hammy persuaded you to play!
    I had never heard of ground squirrels, and I am surprised that they are so tiny!!
  7. What a great way to start my morning. Cheered me up no end. We don't have squirrels but pesky rabbits! Just watched a family in our front yard. Why they like it there I'll never know 'cos the gravel stops all but the hardiest of weeds from poking through!:)
  8. Hahahah! Brilliant! It's enlook on her face - have had that with small children when removing a nappy before bath time..... It's the 'why, why now?' Am doing what I can to find kiddie care :) xx
  9. Such a fun and fabulous card, Darnell, and a brilliant one layer card at that!
    Last winter we woke up (a few times) to the sound of a barking dog and a rattling noise under the roof of our toilet. As it turned out, a weasel was making havoc under the roof tiles. After poking the roof with the end of a broom stick, I saw him (or her, no idea) rushing down the wall, across the terrace, over the wall and into the field next door.
  10. trust good ole hammy to find a "relly kewl" challenge to play in and spit does happen hence the pink spit on the side isn't it, Darnell??
    Ah ground squirrels who would've thought.. do agree re the nesting under said playhouse though might be play for them not for you, should that happen.
    Thanks so much for the inspiration... and praying on...
  13. Cool card Darnell, love the spit as you said it spits out one way or the tuther. Never having seen a squirrel I couldnt even see that there was any difference till you pointed it out. Watch they dont set up under your little cottage and turn it into a home for all orphaned squirrels. Ohh and on the card the pink , isnt that just another splat!!
  14. Adorable card and beautiful coloring Darnell! I think I need to take Zig lesson's from you! And cute, cute pics of the critters...my Brinkley isn't much of a fan of squirrels, so mostly we just see them racing by as Brinkley is yelling at them! :0)
  15. What a fun card Darnell and love that quirky image and your water colouring is great. I love your photos of the ground squirrels too. We don't seem to see many squirrels here even though we are close to the countryside, but our community gets lots of house martins although we don't have them nesting on our house. x
  16. Oh, Darnell! I am laughing lots! Your card is so funny! Loving those squirrel pics. I have not heard of ground squirrels before, a nature lesson and a laugh, thank you! xxx
  19. Oh my goodness, what a funny card! So glad Hammy got you to play a bit. I so enjoy your animal tales...watching the squirrels scamper about can be fun, but hope you get them out from under your playhouse, though. Thanks so much for sharing and spreading smiles!
  20. Oh my, your card just about made me piddle from laughing so hard! Brilliant! We have ground squirrels here...and bunnies. Wild bunnies that are as cute as the dickens but they are pests for those who have gardens. I, not having a garden, think they're adorable. Another thing I consider adorable are mini doxies...and yes, I think you should get one. Another friend for Hammy AND a squirrel-chaser-outer. Perhaps Mister will surprise you with one upon your return...
    Hugs and love~c
  23. "Ground squirrels" is what my husband calls chipmunks, and I thought it was some odd regional phrase, not a real thing. Good old internet, you learn something new every day.
    And I must say, I don't think those were the splatters LIM had in mind. Thanks for the laugh.
    ReplyDelete
  24. Ha ha! Brilliant card! Love the look on her face! And the squirrels are SO cute! I didn't know about ground squirrels either. Your blog is like an educational nature show!
  27. Big vote of yes for the Doxie...I think they are so cute.
    Then you will be making lots more cards like this adorable "Spit happens" card! Amazing how they can piddle at the most inopportune moments...and then chew everything up in the house!
    This is such a fun card.
  28. Pardon me, I'm still laughing over your card...aaah, brings back disconcerting memories. Hilarious. Ground squirrels, hmmm. Didn't even know we had them in Northern California. Clearly, I need to update my critter knowledge....or not. Anyway, hope they're not building nests under your Playhouse...think a daschie may be the right solution...not sure how they handle hamsters, though. And yes, that was a lovely poem.
  29. Holy smoke this made me smile!! This happens in our house!! Our darling Suzy has been having little "incidents" lately and we all tiptoe around the kitchen and utility room in the morning...just in case xx
  30. Not only do I come here to be amused and enabled, now I come here to get educated too! Ground squirrels? Who knew! All squirrels are of the PITA variety where I live - always moving my flower bulbs elsewhere, digging holes in the ground and scampering across my feet while sitting on the porch! AACK!!
    Your card is hilarious too! LOL
    ReplyDelete
  31. OH Darnell! That is too funny! LOL Enjoy your upcoming trip! :)
  32. I love AI images, but will admit after reading your ponderings over whether it looks like both granny & pup had an accident, I can't "unsee" that version :)
    ReplyDelete
  33. I think your card is a "hoot". I can just imagine this really happening with both puppy and Grandma. In fact, it hits might close to this grandma right now where sometimes we just can't walk fast enough to reach our bathroom destination! And, heaven forbid if we cough or sneeze. No hope then. LOL
  34. Ha, Ha, Ha!! Oh my gosh!!! Been there with my doggies, LOL!!
    Super adorable image Darnell and yes.....I can relate to both scenarios, LOL!!
  35. Hilarious card and I, too, thought the granny was losing it, along with the pup! Hahahaha... (Hey, don't get in the way of me and the bathroom first thing in the morning!!!) Do I detect a April Fools Day Biggest Card Blooper in the making??? lol...
    Thanks for sharing your squirrel photos! So much fun, but I would not want them nesting under the playhouse. A doxie might be just what the doctor should order for squirrels in the cellar.
  38. Hand raised....Darnell I know about ground squirrels!!! We had all these holes in the backyard of our house in Scottsdale, couldn't figure out what made them (thinking and hoping they were NOT snake holes!) Finally my MIL (God rets her soul) spotted a ground squirrel coming out of the hole!! Busy time in your back yard with all the hummers and flying squirrels and now ground squirrels!! I just spent some time visiting all that you have been doing and getting caught up. Your cards are always amazing and so enjoy your stories! If I don't "see" you before you leave, I will look forward to seeing pictures of you with all your friends in England! Have a safe journey and stay healthy! God bless!
  39. Cute, cute card! Those of us with doggies certainly can appreciate it.
    Love the squirrel pics. We have all kinds of ground squirrels in our neck of the woods. Hope your fellas find a good home. :)
  41. Roaring with laughter here Darnell! That is SUCH a brilliantly funny card and you sure nailed our splatters challenge (guffaw). Tears were rolling down my eyes when I read your assessment of who had made what puddle. Loved to find out about your ground squirrel too.
    Anyway, thanks so much for the belly laugh and joining us at Less is More this week.
  52. I really chuckled at your card, especially when you said it looked like there had been more than one "oopsie." he he All of us grannies know what that's about!!! We get exacerbated with our squirrels here. They strip our apricot trees of the fruit when it's still green and eat only the nut in the pit. Grrrrrrrr.
    ReplyDelete
  53. Now that I've finally stopped laughing so hard I just want to say how much I love your card Darnell! Thanks for clarification on the puddle because I was wondering! What a fun photo shoot! Love the pictures.
  54. Oh. My. Gosh! This card cracks me up Auntie!!! It is so me with our diabetic dog. lol I love how you colored these two the and "apple juice" is the perfect color. lol Oh my, squirrels are so cute, but they are very destructive. You might have to get those ground squirrels relocated. The squirrels around here will chew the wiring in your cards, homes and anywhere else they can get in. You certainly don't want them nesting under the Playhouse! I hope the Mister can get them taken care of. I can't believe it, but you know the 16h of July is just around the corner! Then you will be off on the trip of a life time. I'm so in awe of you Auntie, cause this old gal here don't go anywhere on her own. lol But I know you will have a fabulous trip meeting all kinds of lovely bloggers! Can't wait to hear all about it.   62. I knew what kind of "baby" squirrels you had there and why then didn't scamper up the tree. You are smart to not want them under your playhouse. They are still rodents (sorry, Hammy, not at all domesticated and refined like you). I didn't think Granny had an accident too on you card. I knew it was all puppy's fault. Your card cracked me up! Thanks for the laugh this fine Friday Morning.
  78. Hi Darnell
    Well, what can I say? I just hope that you don't, as a Grandma have any leakages (of any kind) on our Sunday lunch lol!
    My first thought was it looked like the more solid stuff and they had both participated in synchronised pooping.
    Very funny card!
  79. Great card and I'd love to have ground squirrels too cute !!! I wouldn't mind if they lived under something at all but then I've raised some squirrels and feed the ones that visit our backyard all the time so I'm not a good one for advice you could just make them a home so they could live in that instead :)
  83. Darnell, you have me with sore sides! Glad you could not stay focused on the trip, or we would not have had such a giggle. Oh, and you said one of my favorite things! Mini-Doxie! Took me a year to find mine and she turned out to be a "tween". Mini stops at around 11 pounds and my Della is 16. Look out you ground squirrels! P.S. The drips and puddle look great under a bird on a branch, also. Have a safe, wonderful trip.
  84. Just catching up on your blog posts Darnell, and this one is a complete hoot! Love the sediment and I think the stamp is fabulous! What a fun card :). Reminds me of a "situation" last week when our ageing dog left a little "present" for us in the corner of the room. My sister was round at the time, and my other half Paul said "avert your eyes", so of course we all looked right at it and she said "it'll happen to us all at some point!!!!!" How timely was your card after this event :)
    ReplyDelete
  85. I did laugh at this one, and I LOVE that sediment. Gotta find me one! (or computer generate it!) Perfection in the w/coloring, and the pink is part of the wallpaper in the room ...mimimalist decorating. Good for hammy at finding your challenges, but you probably din't tell him yet, that you gonna be gone and he ain't going???Enjoyed your squirrelies...wish I could send you some from here. They'd climb your playhouse. (can do some serious damage to structures too, cause ours can chew through things). Can't wait to hear about this fantastic trip...I'm so eggzited for you. All the fun you'll have, people you'll hug...Take care, and you do sound like your health issues are better now. HOpe so. Big hugs, TFS & off to see some other pretties here.
  86. Oh you are hysterical! Just love it - what a treat (I meant you.... not the "spit")!
  87. Lol very nearly had a puddle myself after seeing this brilliant card Darnell!x
    ReplyDelete
  88. OMG!!! You made me spit coffee out of my nose!!! Seriously, you cracked me up with your card and your post! The pee-pee puddle(s) had me laughing out loud. But it is her shoes that sent me over the edge! And the look on the dog's face says it all!
    Sweet critter pics too! Never gave a second thought to a 'ground squirrel' versus a 'tree' squirrel in the past. In fact, I didn't know there was a difference. I've been enlightened - thanks!
