Hello Stamplings!
I hope you've had a wonderful two weeks! It's been busy here, but a very productive and fun kind of busy.
I missed die cut week on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar, so today is all about E = Embossing. But, of course, die cuts and ink like to be included whenever possible.

I went with another sunflower this week. I have several of them, but this one is NBUS from Scrapbook.com called, "Sunflowers." I'm actually using it pretty quickly after buying it on sale. (I'm afraid if I turn around, I'll see all the old virginal items on Mt. NBUS glaring at me!)
The background embossed flowers aren't sunflowers. I could tell because Altenew put "Daisy Bed" on the 3D folder. But what the heck, I think they do a fairly good job of impersonating sunflowers. A simple sediment, a black frame, and, of course, lots of winking by the lads finished it off.
Playing in Krafty Chicks (CAS); Seize the Birthday (Add a Sediment Strip); and The Card Concept (Sunflower Delight; I was inspired by the sunflowers for my CAS design style.).
Twofer
This delightfully sketchy Christmas tree is NBUS from the Tim Holtz's set, "Season of Magic," in collab with Simon Says STAMPtember. Something about the set really grabbed me and I starting using it right away. It's versatile and so far I've made some cards in simple black and white, some gold heat-embossed, and some watercolored with the Distress Stains.
Tim is having a video demo on Saturday, which I can certainly use, but I couldn't wait to have a play.
For the tree background panel, I used a snowy e/f and then backed that with a v.o. piece of bumpy green paper I found. To make the texture even bumpier, I embossed it with a pebbly Sizzix 3D e/f (662825). That was a bit much for the thin pp, so some of the bumps popped, showing the white core. That was a happy accident because now it looks like colored bubble wrap.
I think you can just make out that Hammy and Stanley sprinkled the tree with some snowflakes that came with the kit. This was their first time flaking together, so it was a bit of a blizzard. You don't know until you try and now they will be finding snowflakes in their cornflakes for months to come!
I'm delivering my card to the Snippets Playground, along with a thermos of hot toddies and a blankie now that the evenings are drawing in and getting cooler. I used snippets for all three layers. (Not the sediment, which is premade from Memory Box.)
Getaway
It was perfect! And that handsome man you see is celebrating his 77th birthday today by heading off on a motorcycle tour in Europe, one year since his bad accident. I'm so proud of him for all his hard work to make it happen and I thank you for all your prayers this past year. (We would appreciate a few more to keep him safe until he is home again.❤️)

Enjoy your week! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!* As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse! Mwah!

Always great to see a bright sunflower and this one is lovely against the daisy embossing. Tim always comes up trumps with his designs and the sketchy tree is a wonderful example. Hope your handsome chap has a happy trip to celebrate his birthday
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous pair of cards Darnell - Love the 'happy accident' on the second card to form 'coloured bubble-wrap' :) as for the boys finding snowflakes in their cornflakes, I'm still giggling over that :) I will think of them as I eat my flakey muesli tomorrow morning!!
ReplyDeleteThe sunflower card is a delight, and yes, the daisies do masquerade well as sunflowers... glad to see the boys behaved themselves while winking on that card ...
Your get away location looks amazing - so pleased to hear you had a wonderful time.
You are very brave to let the Mr get back on the bike, and then to go touring again - well done to you both!! Prayers assured
Blessings

Glory be! So happy for your wonderful getaway and the time you two spent together! Also, your cards are pretty fun too, especially since they reflect on our changing season, especially since the first asteraceae (also known as Compositae or the daisy/sunflower family) are cousins. And your tree is perfect, a great showcase for the season flying in before we know it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to The Miater, for his healing and such a GREAT ride!
Beautiful sunflower card Dolly! Love the embossed flower background that does look like sunflowers. :) And your Christmas tree is awesome. Love the sketchy design and just a little colour makes it perfect. The background is so cool. Happy accidents happen a lot in art ... and this is one of them. Lovely photos of your recent trip of relaxing by the sea, my friend. Sending love, hugs, and best wishes for Mister's wonderful trip. So proud of him!! Love, Lolly
ReplyDeleteSo pretty Darnell!! I love your repetition of sunflowers and "fancy" sentiment strip. This is such a happy card! Best of luck to hubby. He is very adventurous! Thanks for playing with Seize the Birthday.
ReplyDeleteD, I do love your happy little sunflower - even those daisies couldn't help but turn their heads to gaze at it!
ReplyDeleteI really loved that set for the TH class but, alas, gone before I could get my hands on it! Grab it and your toothbrush and come hang your hat at my place for a bit while Kevin is galivanting! I am amazed at his recovery and wish him a safe and wonderful journey, and happiest 77th!

Lovely cards as always, Darnell! Your embossed flowers easily pass as sunflowers IMHO. The real ones are giving us a great display in the garden this year. I'm loving the background on the modern Christmas tree card too - so creative my friend. So glad you had a good getaway and Kevin looks great! I'm very taken with the sunset picture - what a fabulous spot!

ReplyDeleteFabulous getaway photos, too! So amazing The Mr. is off on a European motorcycle tour just one year later! Happy 77th birthday to him! 🎉🥳🎁🎂🎈
Gorgeous cards, Darnell - thanks for the inspiration! Love your getaway photos - you and Kevin look great & I'm so glad he can finally go on his trip!!
ReplyDeleteBoth cards look beatiful! Love the texture and ofcourse the sunflower on the first one; they useally bloom here into late simmer, but this year they were so fast gone again due to the early verry warm weather... My whole gardensheme is off; had to cut the lavender early august; they were already two weeks gone, while they normaly start blooming in August. The nights are shorter and colder here too, but mostly there are 1-2 days a week that are warmer, so I just enjoy these late summer days whenever they are there and whenever I got time to enjoy them... Hope you will have a lot od thise too!
ReplyDeleteI keep your hubby in ming and hope he returns all in pne peace and all parts working as they were ment to do... Both have fun times and good days apart from eachother; that makes coming tohether again fun and filled with stories...
Hugs, Gerrina

ReplyDeleteLove that sunflower EF and the stamp, all looks so pretty together. The Christmas card is also fab and that background, I think you are onto something there as I thought it was sequins. So very glad to hear that you had a great holiday and even more so that he is off travelling on his bike! What a wonderful thing to read. Happy belated Birthday to him. L x
ReplyDeleteI love your happy sunflower, Darnell, and the impostors in the background. My Tim kit has been sitting on my desk for two weeks. I'm anxious to take the class and see what he does with it. It looks like you had a beautiful vacation. I''m so glad that Kevin is well enough to take his European motorcycle trip that I'm sure helped pull him through all the hard work. Prayers that he and the rest of the group have a safe journey. Happy Birthday, Kevin. Here's to many more!
ReplyDeleteI think that embossing folder is doing a lovely and fine job of impersonating sunflowers, and they're playing very nicely with your pretty new sunflower stamp! It's always interesting to see your NBUS, whether new or 'been there a while'. I like seeing what catches your eye. Such is the case with your new TH/SSS collab set. Nice images and beautifully watercolored with those Distress Stains. It can be so fun to just sit and color without a card in mind. The bumpy paper gave you an interesting layer which I thought for sure was designer paper, but this is much more fun! Love how it turned out! Happy 77th and safe journey to Kevin! He's going to have an amazing time!
ReplyDeleteLove your sunflower and that background. I am so glad you have enjoyed a good break and am happy that your mister is now completely better and able to go off on his bike. I am sure he will have a wonderful time. Happy birthday to hime xx

ReplyDeleteThis is such a pretty sunflower, Dolly, and you've colored her so prettily! I'm loving that embossed background too! Such a lovely winter tree with the snow laying on the branches! The embossed pp turned out to be a perfect frame for this tree. Looks like you had a fun play with this set. Prayers for a safe journey for Kevin. He is amazing and had a super nurse!
