Hello Stamplings!
I hope you are doing great! We had a lovely Easter and I'm writing this on Sunday night, stuffed to the gills! I don't actually have gills, so I don't know why people say that, but I'm stuffed to there, so this will be a quickie.
The carrot cake for dessert did it. Next year I'm having dessert first!

Today really is California Poppy Day. It is one of my favorite springtime flowers here. They pop up everywhere along roadsides and in yards and by the thousands at the California Poppy Reserve.
This poppy is from "Creative Chaos" by Visible Image. It is the first Monday of the month which means I = Ink on the I.D.E.A.S. Calendar. I used one of my favorite mediums ~ my Ziggies. I had my little helper add the schparkle with his winking and a simple black card base and Memory Box black and gold sediment finished it off.
Playing in: Allsorts Challenge (Springtime or A/G), CAS on Friday (Botanicals), Dragonfly Dreams April Challenge (CAS).
And there are two challenges where the theme includes "E" is for ?. I think the poppy is "E"nchanting" so I'm also playing in: AAA Card (It starts with E) and Inkspirational (CAS with option of E).

The toadstools are from The Greetery called, "BotaniCuts Toadstool Garden" stamp and die set. I'm not sure who makes the postage stamp die; I think I might have borrowed a friend's die at one of my past craft retreats.
The border uses some ancient dotted swiss paper which I cut with my old pinking shears. That's right ~ those huge pinking shears for cutting fabric! They haven't been used for that since the dark ages, but I pulled them out of the dusty sewing box because years ago I donated my 50 pairs of little colored skizzors that we all had with different teeth designs. Ah, the memories of the early craft days before die-cutting and dies and embossing folders.

Thank you for sharing that gorgeous Californian poppy with us for the Allsorts challenge - perfect. The group of toadstools looks great with the offset postage stamp die edges. Oh yes, I do remember the early days of using those dinky fancy-edged skizzors and other gizmos which have thankfully been superseded by more crafter-friendly dies etc.
ReplyDeleteTwo fab cards Darnell! You made me smile when you mentioned those scissors with deckled blades, I had a full set too! I recently found an old wooden block stamp with a price ticket on that made my eyes water, I could now buy a full set of stamps for the price of one wooden block mounted one!!

ReplyDeleteLove your poppy card! I do miss seeing the golden poppies. I've tried to grow them in my neck of the woods with little success, although they can grow here. Your mushroom card is cute, too. I used to have oodles of those "fancy" scissors that never really cut well. Haha. Believe it or not, I asked for and received a nice scallop blade pair of scissors. I have a felt project in mind for them. Have a lovely week, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI remember all those pairs of scissors--mine are long gone, too! Love your beautiful poppy, and the gold diagonal splatter is lovely, too. I met up with a couple of stamping friends last week--we mostly talk, but also share products which is wonderful. We had a conversation about toadstools--the Greetery's in particular. One of the women said it's one of her favorite dies. I've never quite known what to do with toadstools. I have a great stamp set that came as part of a class with Pinkfresh, but I've never used since the class. Maybe I should get it out! As always, thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter a little late. We actually did have desert a few hours before dinner (and again after)! Your poppy card is stunning, like the gold embossing , splatters and your colors, Your mushroom card is eye catching with the red, I kept the postage scissors and donated all my others years ago too.

ReplyDeleteNo matter how old you are, I'm still older than you, Darnell. LOL And I gave away my scissors too. I may still have my Mom's pinking shears though. I never thought to use them on paper. Hmmm. I've always loved that Visual Image flower and it looks fabulous in your Zig colors and winked to the hilt. Is that anything like "full to the gills"? I can just imagine the medians full of those wonderful poppies, my second favorite flower.

That's an exceptionally beautiful poppy, Darnell! An exquisitely stylish CAS card design, and that watercoloring of yours always astounds me. Gee, I still have 3 pair of Fiskars decorative edge scissors and my pinking shears. Love LOVE those mushrooms!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Your California Poppy is glowing! It's gorgeous. Wonderful watercolouring and I LOVE all the sparkle. Hammy did a GREAT job! :) Your toadstooks are adorable. Love them in red. I also have a huge pair of pinking shears! :) And I used to have all those "kid-sized" decorative scissors. Even when I was first crafting, I never used them much, but the pinking shears got a workout back then. :) xx

I love the poppy. On one of hubs trips to CA when were dating we headed to the San Diego area, there is a huge poppy area there. All sorts of colors along the hillsides. Your toadstool card is amazing the colors hit just right. Great take on the sketch.

I slowly have been tidying up my craftroom and keep having 'happy finds' like those kinds of tools! And I hope I'll will use more and more of the oldies allong with all the backgrounds and DP so in my little room it is more clear where i did put everything... (By comming across so many things that I want to use it will take forever to tidy it all up, but I am having a blast in the mean while...) Enjoy spring and all the new beginnings! Hugs, Gerrina

LOVE this card! I grow California poppies in my garden and they always make me happy in their beautiful shades of yellow and orange. You captured their colours perfectly. Great idea to use gold embossing powder. I have that stamp and I love it - must get it out and use it soon. I didn't know there was a California poppy reserve - if I'm ever feeling okay about travelling your way again, I'd love to visit it.

Lovely toadstool card. I love the red and white theme and the texture of the embossed red strip. I'm "horrified" that you used fabric scissors for paper! However, perhaps, one is no longer using them for fabric. That would have been a big no-no, in my home growing up. Thanks for joining us at Die Cut Divas.
