Hello Stamplings!
And Happy Monday to you as you begin your week with high hopes! Whatever they may be, I hope they come to fruitition. (Which makes more sense than fruition. What's a "fru?")
All around our neighborhood, hydrangeas are blooming with their many tiny little flowers all balled up into one huge flower. They are one of my most favorite flowers and I was inspired to bring out an old favorite stamp and paint.

This stamp is Essentials by Ellen Mondo Hydrangea. I stamped the flower and leaf in black, heat-embossed in clear e/p, and then painted with my Ziggies before die-cutting.
The lads went to town winking and then all three of us schplattered with diluted guache on the flower and leaf and with diluted purple ink on the background panel. That panel was embossed with an SU Sizzex e/f and attached to a lavender card base. Finally, the flower was attached using foam squares. The sediment is a foil greeting from Memory Box.

For this QACAS design, I used my NBUS gingko leaves 3D e/f from SSS with a panel of watercolor black paper which gives it a lovely texture. Then I simply swiped the raised bits using a piece of white chalk turned on its side. The circular sediment is also from SSS.

Your hydrangea is lovely. It's the favorite in my front yard garden, and around our patio. Ours are just leafing out, so it will be awhile before I see the beautiful blooms. They last all summer, though, so it's worth the wait. Love the embossed panel on black watercolor paper. Will be CASEing this idea for sure. Have a great week!

ReplyDeleteThis year is whooshing by way to fast! I've always loved this beautiful hydrangea and you've colored it beautifully! Great job on the splatters! The embossed ginkgo makes a wonderful background and it was a brilliant idea to use a piece of chalk to highlight those leaves! A great masculine card, my friend. Happy Memorial Day.

Your stripes with the embossing folder for the background really highlight that lovely Hydrangea and I'm so glad you shared this with us at The Flower Challenge! Your ginko leaves look fabulous on the black cs and I never thought of using white chalk to highlight raised areas (thought it was white pigment ink till I read your description!), but it worked beautifully! ReplyDeleteThere is something so lush about a big head of hydrangea blooms. They are also a favorite of mine. We left 3 lovely blue bushes in MD, but have a white one here...we'll see how it blooms. Right now its lilacs with such a lovely scent when the wind blows. YOur hydrangea is fabulously colored, and the ginko leaves have the perfect touch to them. Two lovely cards.

Gorgeous hydrangeas beautifully coloured with lots of light and shade Darnell, and the striped EF looks wonderful in the background, and then the dry embossed gingko leaves on black card and highlighted with the white chalk are really great, and the chalk works brilliantly and a great finishing touch with a white circular sentiment frame over the top. x

ReplyDeleteYour watercoloring of the hydrangea is so beautiful in the rich purply-blue. Stunning really. I cannot get enough embossing. It just looks good with everything, and those stripes make a wonderful background for your hydrangea. I would not have thought to use chalk as you've done on your gingkos. Love the look with that beautiful folder. Enjoy your holiday weekend!
ReplyDeleteI can read you are a little bit further in the season; the hydrangeas here are just getting little blooms between the leafs, but I do enjoy the smelling roses! Love your coloring! That hydrangea is so pretty, it took my breath away! Shades of purple are my favorite, so I was drawn to it immediately. Your second card is lovely, too. I love to emboss and then add a color to the raised portions of the embossing. You've inspired me to head down to my craft area first thing in the morning and emboss, emboss, emboss!

ReplyDeleteI'm always wowed when I visit, Darnell and this time I'm double wowed. The painting on your beautiful hydrangea is awesome in those rich colours and I love the yellow centres. The embossed card looks wonderful in black and why would never have thought of using a simple chalk stick that way? Genius lol!

I have a pad of black watercolor paper that I never use. I'm going to try your trick although I may have to do it with white ink. Thanks for the inspiration.

ReplyDeleteBeautifully colours hydrangea flowers Darnell... my mum had these growing when I was 'younger' - gorgeous blues.. and your Gingko embossed card is fabulous too.... must remember to check out my chalks hidden in a drawer somewhere.. I love the blue hydrangeas. Your floral branch looks beautiful. I love how you varied the intensity of the color on the flowers, it gives such a natural effect. The second card is equally amazing. I love the added dimension and the beautiful whitewashing of the raised elements.
