We are going to see the offsprigs for a belated Father's Day dinner later on and I've a
I love the late-afternoon sunshine on the warm colors. I had to wait until then because we started the first few days of summer with sizzling temps. It was 105F (40C) yesterday, ugh, but thankfully the temps are spose to drop ten degrees today.
Anysizzle, where was I? That pretty old-timey pen is fussy-cut from a piece of pp. The MFT frame is cut from another piece of pp. The sediment is from Hero Arts. Remember those? I kept all mine; to me they're, well, timeless. The schplattered background was made with Gelato sprays I made a few weeks ago for another card and found in Bob, my box of bits.

If you missed my post here where I described how I made Gelato spray, I'll tell you a real quick shortcut. When you're at Max's Frozen Dessert Stand, ask the lady who waits on you if she could put the drippings from the trays under the different cartons of Gelatos into cups for you. When you get home, everything will be all melty and perfect. Don't put them in the freezer. Line up several sheets of cardstock on plastic bags in the back yard or on the patio and then holler for your kids and the neighbor's kids. Let them fill up straws with the different colors and blow them all over your cardstock. Not only are they pretty, but they smell delishus! (The tiniest tots might eat the paper.)
Don't forget to put the dogs and cats and hamsters and fence lizards into a restricted area before you start. Ask me how I know. Oh, and also, you'll need to strip down the kids, hose them off, and do a load of laundry, but that ain't no thing when you get such pretty results. And bonus, you'll have a fun video to share with your closest relatives and, you know, the world.
Challenges
- CAS(E) This Sketch: below.
- Just Add Ink: Just add a window/frame.
- Less Is More: Use something from your "bits" box. I think my background is soft and subtle enough to be considered white. Or no?
- Retro Rubber: Tic Tac Toes. Diagonal: Romantic occasion (anniversary card), patterned paper, and gem/enamel shapes. My sediment is from 2005.
- TIME OUT: Warm.

The last few days I've been putting together the last of my June cards and getting halfway through July, so I thought I would show you a few more simple Penny Black Stickeroo makes.
ETA re Comment Notifications:
I noticed this morning that once again I was NOT receiving comments in my email. So frustrating when we thought someone had found the solution. I went back into my Settings / Email and under comment notification, my email address had been removed!! I reentered it, click save settings and now it is working again. WTH? Do we now have to do the Settings fix every time we post? How could my email address have been removed when it was there and working yesterday and I haven't been to Settings since I saved them?!
Please let me know when you post if the fix is still working for you. If so, it must have been a glitch just for me and I hope that's the case! If not, we all need to get on the Blogger Help Forum and blast them with hundreds of complaints!!

ReplyDeleteWpow Darnell, this old-timey card looks stunning and so very elegant!! Love the backkground! And you always make me laugh with your posts, they are so fun and this isn't an exception! :D :D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful array of your June cards, too!
Have a fabulous, happy and fun Sunday!
Hugs
P.S. Thanks for your post about fixing blogger email notification problems, it works perfectly!!! Now I received TWO email for any old comment (!) but I'm sure that this will not be so for the next ones :)
Just fabulous Darnell, and thanks for such a fun post too
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday
Kathyk
Hi Darnell: I'm so happy you shared this gorgeous card over at the RETRO RUBBER CHALLENGE, love the amazing background you created with the Gelatos, thank you for the tip and for the laugh, I can only picture the kiddos busy spraying your card stock with the delicious concoction.
ReplyDeleteThe pen is beautiful, reminded me of my middle school History teacher who asked all of us to write our homework assignments with a fountain pen, this is waaaaay back when we actually had to sit and write with pen and paper, I recall the feel of a fountain pen as the ink flowed onto my paper, those were the times.....
Thank you for playing along with us at RETRO RUBBER, I hope you join us again next time.
Big Hugs,
Maria Rodriguez.
Hiu Darnell, Well you sure have been busy. Loving all the cards.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely meal out with your family. Sue
Love that fountain pen...classy for sure. Makes a fabulous man card. Your stickeroo cards are so pretty as well. Have a fabulous Sunday!
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Such an elegant and classy card and great use of the background found in Bob the bits box x.
ReplyDeleteNow I loved reading your post and the Gelato's spray fun...You are so clever how you tell and write a story and I love reading them!
The Penny Black Stickeroo cards are amazing...I am not familiar with the stickers, so I shall explore further x
Thank you so much for your help and Kath with the blogging thingy...I did mine and it worked...Ye Ha!! Now there are supposedly 'people' from blogger trying to work out the problem and have got nowhere...just hire Kath I say x
Enjoy the belated Father's Day dinner, make memories and try and stay cool...105f/40c...way way too hot so I hope the temperatures drop for you x
Hugs

Oh, this is so cool! Wonderful take on the sketch, Darnell!
ReplyDeletePretty card! Love the pen!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Marilyn❤
Darnell, this is so elegant! I love that pen!
ReplyDeleteA few quick comments: I love your wonderful card. I love the name for your card parts:) Great story about how to make the background. And, your sticker cards are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour way of splattering sounds like lots more fun than mine, Dolly! It think that would work well for using glitter too! This card is so classy with the soft splatters and that timeless pen and sentiment. Somebody needs to make a stamp of that pen! Those Stickeroos make such pretty QACAS cards. I need to look into them. Glad it's cooled off a bit for you!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards! The one with the pen is very elegant and lovely. The Penny Black ones are wonderful. The story about creating the gelato background, priceless! Thank you for the giggle. And while I am at it, thank you so much for the tip about Blogger. Seems to have worked for me in that I am getting comments emailed to me without having to leave a comment myself. Thank you SO much. Hope you have a marvelous and delicious dinner with your family. Big hugs!
ReplyDeleteBoB!!!! ROFL HUGZ
ReplyDeleteI love the pen on the splattery background and framed beautifully with the stitched frame, and the turquoise enamel dots are just the perfect touch to finish it with aplomb (and not a plum of the eating variety)...lol. Sorry, couldn't resist! I can remember using pens with nibs at school, and I hate to say it but I do remember using the ink wells in the wooden desks with lift up lids where you kept your books...lol. x
ReplyDeleteWho knew that splattering could be tasty too!!?? I love this elegant card and the stickeroo collection too xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great take on the sketch Auntie! I am totally in love with that beautiful calligraphy pen stamp! I have a passion for calligraphy pens. lol Love that beautiful background you have made with the gelatos and the stitched frame frames it all perfectly. Hugs, Brenda

ReplyDeleteWonderful card Darnell, I love the image and the soft colours, a design that colour be for anyone and for any occasion, Kate x
ReplyDeleteHope you have fun with your belated Father's Day event. In the meantime, we have the pleasure of looking at this lovely, warm, gelato spattered card. Tell me, did you have to roll out the plastic sheeting to keep the mess out of your lovely backyard. If so, it probably looked similar to a crime scene until you cleared it up. Crossing fingers for cooler days.
ReplyDeleteGreat CAS card Farnell!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a classic and elegant card - gorgeous! Stunning Penny Black cards too.
ReplyDeleteI love those Stickeroo cards. I loved working with them last year for Christmas. And, I had to laugh at how you got the Gelato designs made. As far as I know my comments are still coming in okay as I got a few again today.
ReplyDeleteGelatos dripping seriously ?? He he..your posts bring smile on readers face :) I loved the elegant n classy take on the sketch :)
ReplyDeleteYour card for each of the challenges is just so stunning in its' simplicity...I just love it! You nailed the challenges with one card so completely.
ReplyDeleteVery nice masculine card! The splatters are a great way to fill the negative space, but think I will stick to the traditional way of doing it LOL! Thank you for playing with us at Retro Rubber and hope you will join us again soon.
ReplyDeleteYou gelato background is gorgeous Darnell and that fountain pen looks great spanning the frame. I too have those lovely stamps from long ago and you remind me that I should hunt them out! 40C!!!! - I don't think I would be able to do anything in that kind of heat. Stay cool my friend.
ReplyDeleteHugs

So classy and fabulous with that pen cut from PP - a good tip to look more closely at some of my more fussy PP and see if I can use the images. I have no idea what is going on with the commenting. I did as you suggest and I get them, but only after I've approved them so I still have to go into my blog and the awaiting moderation section and approve them. C'est la vie I reckon. I'll have a look to see if there is anything else I can do. Keep blogging and have a nice time with the kiddies. xx
ReplyDeleteThose Stickeroos make an elegant card, don't they?
ReplyDeleteOn the comment front, after your last post on how to fix the issue, I went into settings and found my email address blank, just as you did, so I updated it. I haven't been posting a lot lately, so I'm not expecting a lot of comments, but your segment on this post reminded me to check to see if there were any pending, and there were two. I hadn't received any email notification, but as soon as I approved those comments I got two email notifications for each of the two (four total emails) letting me know I had pending comments. Gah!
Yes Darnell it is still working for me, touch wood.
ReplyDeleteThe timeless card is stunning and lovely June and July cards, can't get PB sticker's over here anymore which is a great shame as they are really great for a quick and forgotten card.
Kath x
That is a timeless card, Darnell. So elegant and classy. I hope the fix is working for you because I just commented on all your posts since May sometime. Then again if you don't see them all it's NBD.
ReplyDeleteThe Stickeroo cards are beautiful and I really love the card with the vintage pen, it is gorgeous - I do remember those stamps, I always thought they were very elegant...
ReplyDeleteOh no to the Blogger issue!! I really hope it was only a glitch, I guess the next few days will tell you one way or the other... got my fingers crossed! Hugs, Annie xxx
Fab card Darnell.....love that pen! I've had the same problem with blogger...i thought I was Billy no mates till i found all the un moderated comments that had failed to hit my e-mail box. My address was still there though , so I had to remove it and start again...why do they play around...they should get crafting if they are bored!! Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteDarnell, your card is gorgeous, that pen is so elegant and as you said timeless :)
ReplyDeleteI've never seen Pennyblack stickeroos, so intrigued. they look gorgeous
BTW I howled at your gelato mix now I have all these funny images of kiddies and ice cream paper.
Your timeless card is lovely. I really like that old-fashioned fountain pen and the warm colors. You certainly went through a wild process to get the colored spots. Not sure I could replicate that!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat artistic card with the pen & love how you've used the Stickeroos, Darnell! My email is still there, so hopefully yours will stay now.
ReplyDeleteYour gelato background sounds hilarious to make.... according to you this time around ;-) Did Hammy put you up to this?
ReplyDeleteLove your card - that is a classically elegant masterpiece.
I have not received notifications until I have visited my 'comments awaiting moderation' page and published them, then only some of them will be sent to my inbox, so it is not just you Darnell. I just keep that page open on my computer!!
Blessings
Maxine
Hahahahaha ... I'd be there with the kids splashing, Darnell ... you got me at gelato ... slurp, slurp! What a beautifully elegant card ... the soft colours have such a lovely warm glow ... looks as though they're glinting in the casing of that chic fountain pen ... timeless indeed! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Time Out with this beauty! What a gorgeous collection of stickeroo florals ... you always do dress them up so wonderfully! LYAMYMA ... OHDTGT! Big hugs & bisous, Anita :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure to be ready to use Gelatos !! Although my children are now bigger, I'm sure they would enjoy to try this technique, even my husband (he is my third child for this kind of things !!). But your gelato background is delicious and so delicate (surely done by a sweet girl ! 😄). It highlights beautifully this fountain pen (I love them and still use them, my children too !), it seems so real and the sentiment is perfect ! Fabulous. Thanks so much for sharing and for playing along with us at Less is More !
ReplyDeleteWell for goodness sake. Just went to check my settings was still ok to find myself logged out of Google blogger at another site. Just had to renter my details and now back in. Something not quite right going on here methinks. Still got my address entered but I had to wait until today for all yesterday's comments to appear in my email box.
ReplyDeleteAny ways your card with the pen is absolutely splendid . Not sure bout rounding all the kiddies up though and you never menshund what you did with the hubster. Garage door being fitted today. So far only a six inch slab of concrete has fallen down when they took the old door off.
Oh happy days! Hugs Mrs A.
Love the warm colours on your beautiful CAS-card!
ReplyDeleteMaybe I am lucky, buit posted a new post and the comments still come in my mail....
Always a pleasure to read your posts...gives me a nice pauze from work! Hugs, Gerrina
Beautiful card, as always, Darnell. Re the comment fix... your original worked for me, for about 5 minutes! I repeated it and also followed the same steps in the comment moderation box, and so far it seems to be working...
ReplyDeleteI love the simplicity of the pen card and I remember using one of those. I used to have little pots of ink in different colors and that may have been the beginning of my love of artsy stuff. Well, after crayons. I was able to get some PB stickers, after you told me about them, at my stamp store. Your cards are beautiful and I can't wait to use mine. I hope you had a wonderful time for the Father's Day celebration. I'm off to get gelato drippings.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card as ever Darnell! And an unusual if not tasty way to do the background LOL
ReplyDeleteI simply love the HOT weather but 40degs is too much, sounds like the hose is the way to go ;D L of L Gay xxx
I love this card. How nice to see you use the PB stickers, I have some somewhere I need to find them. Hugs, B
ReplyDeleteWell I'll be derned - I never know that's how gelatos were used! LOL Sounds like fun to me :) Love this card and I love the fountain pen too - I used to love using them years ago for some strange reason! The flower stickeroos are wonderful on your June cards too. I hope you had a great belated father's day dinner, and your tip for getting email notifications is still working for me... thanks much again!
ReplyDeleteYour QACAS cards always look like you've paid so much attention to fab details, and this one is no exception. Love the pen look (does anyone use these pens today? I can remember having one that had a lovely lime green sort of marbled handle that was my favorite). The double stitched frame shows off the design so nicely, and of course the splatted background is gorgeous. The turquoise spots highlight the yellow so nicely - and the other spatters. Thanks for the link to the directions. Finishing up a massive marathon of trying to catch up visiting, so once my behind unsleeps I'll check this out. I forget about using gelatoes, but this is an uber pretty & delicate background. Have fun with the family. TFS & Hugs (oh - x'd fingers, so far, I THINK I'm getting comments, but thanks for the heads up, will go check. )
ReplyDeleteBEAUTIFUL card Darnell and I LOVE that splattered background...I can almost smell it from here! Love the look of that old fashioned pen and the sentiment too...what a lovely contrast between the "vintage" and the FUN background!! And just to let you know (knock on wood!!) that I am still receiving my comments via my email, so I'm really hoping it stays! Hope it was just a glitch for you and that you won't keep having to go into your settings every day...that would definitely be a pain!! Take care my friend. Hugs!! :0)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous way to create a background that smells as good as it looks, Darnell! I love how you’ve kept the focal image CAS so the focus can remain on it too. Thanks for sharing with us at Just Add Ink this week.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful creation Darnell, definitely 'timeless'
ReplyDeleteHappy crafting
June
What an elegant beauty that card is Darnell. you never cease to amaze me with how you pull a card together. Schtuff from many different companies but pulled together they all work wonderfully well. I don't know about the kids, but I reckon I could have a good go at that gelato thing.... it's 30 degrees here today, which is fine, but the humidity is not. urgh. So before I melt into a puddle at my PC, I shall go and stick my head in a bowl of ice. It's not a good look. Lisa xx
ReplyDeleteThe card with the pen is really timeless. Fantastic work! Thank you for the realistic instruction how to prepare Gelato spray. :-))) I also like your cards with the flowers. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteFor the comments I prefer your first suggestion. I make first comment and mark the window "inform". And it works. :-))
Stay in the shadow with a cold drink! :-)
Hugs,
Sonja
I used to have one of those pen stamps. It never looked so beautiful. I'd love to see a video such as you described, tee hee! Sure makes for a fantastic background! All your Stickeroo cards are incredibly gorgeous, too. When you send out so many they sure help with the process. Dang, I'll have to recheck my blog. I haven't posted in forever (almost), so maybe it's still working. Vacations are wonderful, but getting back in the groove of stamping and blogging is a little difficult. Oh, and I love that you named your bits box "Bob". Giggle!
ReplyDeleteThis card is so pretty, Darnell! I love the color palette and all the small details in the background and the frame -it's amazing how much action there is in this card and yet it's perfectly CAS! My comment notifications have been coming through just fine with your instructions. I hope your problem doesn't occur anymore! Thanks for joining us at TIME OUT and Less Is More!
ReplyDeleteYummy. Gelato. Nuff said.
ReplyDeleteLove that fountain pen. What a perfect sentiment to accompany it. What a lovely card.
As for Blogger. I haven't attempted a fix. Sure not getting any notifications due to any Blogger remedies yet though, though I saw in the forum some people were...
And you asked (in a non-notification comment) about keeping the needle unplugged. Ready for this? A toothpick. And when I'm done I pull the syringe back a little bit which probably sucks the glue down away from the tip. So far so good.
Hope things've cooled a bit for you sunny Californians.
The simple details like the stitching on the frame make this such a perfect masculine card Darnell. I love how your pen so perfectly grounds your sentiment! Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful cards Darnell! I like that pen! Have a great time at your belated Fathers day dinner... As for my comments... It didn't work the first time for me but then I did it again and it worked... So far so good
ReplyDeleteI've just spent the loveliest time catching up on your blog posts and wonderful cards - I seem to have missed most of May and June, but I couldn't tell you what I've been doing instead (well, some of it I can't cos it's still secret, the rest of it I can't remember!). Love your timeless pen card with the soft splattery background.
ReplyDelete"Real' gelatos...how yummy scrumptious is that! Your card: lovely and I can just imagine the fabulous aroma it has. Your PB cards...swoon!
ReplyDeleteFrustrated beyond belief with blogger, to the point where I'm 'this close' to packing it in with blogging, aside from posting DT cards. Incredibly busy with bike races/travel (will be doing 6 back-to-back back-and-forths to Edmonton...and no, staying is not an option) that I can barely think, never mind craft. Oh well...lots of goodies to play with once windows of home-time open up. Also explains my lack of notes/commenting, which makes me feel super bad...sighhhh!
Hugs and love~c
Timeless is right! and beautifully done : )
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of timeless did you receive your birthday card... a bit early? LOL Better early than never?? well.... I finished making your card and collecting some goodies and preparing for mailing it and then .... mailed it! instead of waiting. oopie!
I will be making a post later today and I will check out my settings. This really is frustrating but I sure thank you for the leg work you do to keep us all getting our comments!
BIG THANKFUL birthday HUGS!!
Patti
First, let me say that that old timey ink pen is WONDERFUL! I have some images like that, I need to dust them off! A perfectly beautiful CAS creation! Second, I am going to run to my settings to see if my email address was removed because, no, I am not getting notifications of comments and my friend and I were lamenting this very situation! Thanks for the tip but knowing BLogger, it won't work for me. :( Anyway, so glad you played with our Tic Tac Toe challenge at Retro Rubber!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness...alsways fun to visit your blog but geeze, you are the luckiest girl with all your wonderful chatty comments left too! What great crafty followers you have. I tried to answer your wonderful comment the other day and it keeps saying I am replying to a Carolyn Bounds-I know her well and she is not you...just the strangest thing. Anyway, thanks for the nice comment and I am off to try to fix my commenting issue to see if they will show up after using your fix!
ReplyDeleteWonderful sentiment!! The simplicity and details on your card are amazing! Love the splatters and that vintage pen, a truly classy design. Your temps sound like ours. I went out to get in the car this morning and the inside temperature was 111! We have had rain for a couple of days though so that is a blessing. Try to stay cool!
ReplyDeleteA fab card.
ReplyDeleteWell hello there my old friend - hope you are well? Always a delight to see you in the Retro Rubber gallery. I LOVE your card, that subtle background, totally works with the sentiment and the fountain pen. Thanks for playing along. Claire DT
ReplyDeleteLove your CAS card. Thanks for sharing with Retro Rubber Challenge Blog.
ReplyDeleteYou're joking right? Its not real ice cream on your card? You have such a great sense of humour that i never know!😁 Anyway its a gorgeous card & thanks for the tip about blogger notification, i informed all my teams who use Blogger & it helped them alot. I use wordpress so no problem there.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a thrill to read your posts and have a giggle at your stories Darnell. I'm not sure I'm ready for gelatos either ... in fact I simply daren't get into any new techniques as the cost of maintaining this hobby is crazy! Anyway I'm thrilled that you could have a little delve in your bits box to play along with us at Less is More and what a perfect, subtle and elegant card. Thanks as always for joining us.
ReplyDeleteWow Darnell, your so good with your fussy cutting, I thought that pen image was stamped!! Talk about a perfect card for a guy or gal and love that Gelato splattered background. We don't have anyone here in our little town who sells Gelato, so will have to melt some ice-cream and give it a go and can just imagine Bella and the cats all hanging around.....I finally go around to trying out your fix for the Blogger commenting problem, fingers crossed I will be back to receiving comments from now on!! Thanks so much for this info and for also joining us at TIME OUT, always love to see you!!
ReplyDeleteBetter late with a visit than never, eh! But oh my, what a fabulous card. I love the stylish vintage feel of this. And that font....divine for this card! Oh you do make me chuckle, lady! And you had me laughing at Bob! I'm gonna call my fobs from now on (folders of bits!)
ReplyDeleteI'm still having issues with my comments. They do come through but as I've got comment moderation set up they're now only coming through on email after I've approved them in Blogger, that's a bit pointless then isn't it! lol I blinkin' give up!
Anyhooo...thanks so much for sharing this gorgeous creation over at Less is More xx
