A site for my handmade cards, accompanied by my photos and written meanderings which are occasionally witty, often tongue-in-cheek, and rarely profound. Beginning in June 2013, you'll also see lots of NBUS, which is an acronym I coined for Never-Before-Used-Schtuff. Feel free to join in, use the acronym, and use up your NBUS too! Thanks for coming by! Have a beverage and enjoy!

NBUS Challenge #12 ~ Day Two

Hello, Stamplings!
Welcome to Day Two of our ten-day challenge to USE NBUS! For all the details on the history, rules, and prizes, please go here. If you have a card to enter today, the linky tool is below!

My card for Day Two:
I have so many friends who would love this naughty Halloween card with a NBUS sediment from Riley & Company! Somehow those frolicking giggling ghosts make it less offensive!

I'm entering this card at Moving Along With The Times, where the brief is to use a sediment as the focal point with no other stamped images.

~~~
Oh, wait, speaking of shenanigans, I forgot to show this photo the other day:
Are we all looking in a different direction?! That's funnier to me than my attempt to do the hokey-pokey and shrink myself because they put shorter Lois behind me! You can see she is on her tipply toes. Too bad you can't quite see Hammy in my right hand!
~~~

Off you go now! Use that NBUS!!

Enjoy the challengeNo, seriously, enjoy!

My card.

Mother Nature has put us through a few rough weeks with fires and floods and earthquakes and wind all around the world, so I will be focusing on HUMOR with my NBUS cards for this challenge.

I love snarky sediments and have accumulated a few over the years, but they can be hard to use for specific challenges or events, so this will give them an opportunity to feel some inky love and hopefully bring you some smiles!
Is this perfect for opening day of this challenge, or what??!!

I can't remember now where I first saw this hysterical sediment, but I had to have it immediately. It is from Simon Says Stamp. The little crazy stamping lady ("Mad Stamper") is from Uptown Design, and the "Life is Good!" border is simply a double layer of Washi tape from Mike's.

I can't wait to see the amazing creations you make and enter below using one or more item of Never-Before-Used-Schtuff!! Thank you very much for participating and for being incredible followers and supporters and friends! Your friendship and your encouraging comments keep me going! MWAH!

If you have any questions, please use the Contact Me form on the side bar or email darnell dot knauss at gmail dot com.

A Pool Boy and a Snazzy Silhouette Dress

Hi Honey Stamplings, I'm home!

Did you miss me? Did the dog run away trying to find me and the cat go up a tree?

I squired Hammy away with me in the suitcase and we had a blast while we were away! Wait. What? I wasn't in the suitcase, he was! More reunion talk below, but for those who just want to see cards in this space, I have a couple that I made before I left which I didn't have time to post.

Onefer.
This old gas bag is no doubt known to a lot of you and I never tire of her! I used to draw a ciggie in her hand, but that's so last century and no longer acceptable. When I recently got the NBUS sediment from Verses Rubber Stamps, I immediately thought it would be perfect for her. I meant to add some clouds, but I, well, I forgot.

Challenges
  • CAS Mix Up Challenge: Watercolour wash (sky and lawn) + stamping + die cutting (scalloped border).
  • Double D Challenges: Sentiments/Quotes. They can be silly, right?
  • Retro Rubber: Anything goes. I've been stamping this lovely lay-about lady laying out for years and years. She is a vo stamp from Art Impressions.
  • Stamp Ink Paper: Watercolor. In addition to the background washes, I watercolored the image with my Ziggies.

Twofer.
The jewel-toned background of this card was in my UCB box. I made it ages ago by smearing my Ziggies onto an acrylic block, spritzing it with water, and then stamping it onto paper. I actually still have a few of these spritzed arty backgrounds in the box. When I saw the challenge at Just Us Girls (which I missed, darn it) was "Block Watercolor Stamping," I pulled this background out and attached it to a coordinating colored card base. Now what?

I turned and whistled over my shoulder for Hammy, who was busy in the neighbor's fig tree. (Figs are like crack for the field mice, roof rats, raccoons, and little domesticated hamsters in the neighborhood!) With the promise that he could go right back to stuffing his face, Hammy cleaned himself off in the birdbath and sat on the window sill to see what my panic was. He is so great at remembering the challenges, he immediately told me to add a silhouette.

The NBUS silhouette die I chose was "Princess Dress" from Memory Box. As my friend Lolly says, silhouettes can be any color, but for this background, I felt black was best. The NBUS sediment is from Paper Smooches.

Reunion Memories.

One of the many pleasant experiences of my trip back to the Midwest was meeting my bloggie friend, Pat McCleary.
Pat is a lovely lady who makes beautiful cards, but she doesn't have a blog to share them. I found out she was a fan when she sent me a complimentary email in 2013 telling me how much my blog brightened her day. Well that made MY day! I feel blessed to have finally been able to meet her on this trip!

We all have silent friends out there reading our blogs who we don't know about because they either don't follow us or don't have blogs of their own. I haven't said so in too long: to all of you silent supporters, thank you very much!

~~~
I only have a couple of photos of me at the reunion because I was busy taking photos. Here is a group photo of all of us. I'm over on the right.
And here I am with two of my oldest friends ~ not in terms of their age, but the age of our friendship:
That's Glenda on the left and Mary Beth on the right. I made the photo black and white because I couldn't figure out why the color photo gave us all neon green hair! And, yes, for the eagle-eyed among you, the buttons Glenda and I are wearing are made from our senior class photos. Fun idea!
~~~

Enjoy your day!  No, seriously, enjoy!  LITS!*

I'm going to sleep for two days and then I'll be back on Sunday for opening day of NBUS Challenge #12! See you then!

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower!  Please let me know you came by so I can be sure to return the flavor!

Rainbow Butterflies and A Bonkers Bee

Hello, Stamplings!

I hope your second full week of September has started off well and you're not in the middle of some new natural disaster. Prayers continue for everyone struggling to return to some form of normalcy.

I had to finally turn the television off to find our version of normal here. The force of Mother Nature is mesmerizing and terrifying. So I turned to something lighter.

Onefer.
When I saw the current TIME OUT Challenge was to CASE (copy and share everything) my friend and owner of Uniko, Beverley Brown, I knew I needed to take time out to play along. The NBUS butterfly frame is from WPlus9 cut from a background I made by schmearing rainbow colors of DI onto my craft mat, spritzing it with water, and then laying the watercolor paper into it. The pretty outline blossom is from Uniko's "Building Blossoms II" stamp set.

Here is Bev's beautiful card for us to CASE:
I'm also playing in Paru's Card Making Challenge where the brief this month is "Rainbow," and in Happy Little Stampers Watercolour Challenge, which is "Anything Goes" with the optional twist of "spritzing."
Grab Our Badge!

TwoferAnd now for something even lighter!
This is more like the world where Hammy and I live! For this one-layer card (OLC), I stamped my NBUS sediment (a gift from my friend Shaz!) from Visible Image onto watercolor paper. Then I stamped the whimsical bee from Paper Smooches upside down and colored it with my Ziggies. Finally, using a metal ruler, I drew a yellow line down each side of the card to give it the appearance of a matted layer. No combing necessary. You can't tell, but the bonkers bee is liberally Winked.
