SCUBA Birthday Dude

Greetings, stampers!

Happy middle of May! I'm not even going to talk about it. Instead, we'll just think of today as the start of another fabulous week stretching before us with limitless possibilities!

Wellllllll, not prezackly "stretching" before us. More like whooshing by us! Does that mean we have limited possibilities? No, of course not. We just have to be quick, that's all. Like the lizards I'm going to be sharing with you today.

But, first, for those of you who just stopped by to play cards, I've got one of those, too.
This NBUS SCUBA dude with the googley eyes is a stamp sent to me by my friend Lottie ages ago. It's from Stampendous. It gives me the giggles because that's either a little baby or a balding grandpa! But then I lay my head on my right shoulder and ponder, is that a tail? And, if so, is it a monkey^ with a human head? Has growing up in the 60s caught up with me? No matter what he is, he's having fun! The fishie, wave, and bubbles came from Paper Smooches "Surf and Turf" set. The sediment is from MFT "Framed Greetings."

^ETA: Thank you to my friend TK who let me know that it is indeed a monkey: Changito The Monkey! Apparently, there are a whole series of Changito stamps from Stempendous. So about the face. Let's just say Changito is sunburned!

This was a super QACAS card, put together for a few challenges and to spread the word that today is the 50th birthday of a special friend to a lot of us: Sandie Munroe of London Days! Happy Birthday, Sandie! This is not the card I sent to Sandie, but she has a great sense of humor and she would have liked this one all the same.

Sandie's DT over at TIME OUT are hosting an extra special challenge to celebrate Sandie and over on Kylie's blog you can also find a linky tool (open for a coupla weeks) to add your birthday card to Sandie's greetings!

Challenges
We'd love you to display our bannerPlease Grab Our Badge!Grab Our Badge!

Hammy forgot to remind me that there is also a sediment stamp that says, "s.c.u.b.a.: super creative unexpected birthday acknowledgement," which is right up my aackronym alley. But that's okay, I let it go. Hammy is still not himself.

Lizziezzzzzzz

While Hammy's busy looking at scrapbook photos of his furballs, I'll sneak in some overdue lizard photos. (I told you I was a 12-year-old boy half the time and I know lizards aren't for everyone, so it's okay if you skip to the end.)

Here in California, we have tiny little lizards called "fence lizards," because they climb our yard fences and dash across the top. I think that fact makes them one of the less intelligent critters in the kingdom, considering we also have a substantial population of hawks with eagle eyes and eagles with hawk eyes.

Long-time readers have met several generations of "Lizzie." We seem to have more than usual this year. Every time they appear I am mesmerized all over again. As you know, it doesn't take much to mesmerize me!

For scale, you can see that they are quite tiny and not the least bit scary.
Can you see it?

How about now:
Then there was the time the Mister came to show me the surprise he got when he went to get the pail:
Now how the heck did it get in there? You'll really scratch your head when you see where that pail is kept in the garage!
We never know where we're going to see them:
or their toys:
But we do know where they come from. One day I saw this guy in an uncharacteristic huff. Check out the beautiful color of his belly:
Then I noticed that his huffiness wasn't directed at me:
And things progressed as these things tend to do:
Can't find what I'm talking about?

Can you see the itty-bitty baby now?
This time of year when I'm taking card photos, I usually have nearby company:
We all share the yard very amicably.

The end.

Because lizards took up so much space here today, the "New Friends Corner" will return in the next post. Thank you.

~~~
Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor as soon as I can!
Hi Darnell, Love the card.
Hope you have a good start to the week. Sue
Hmm I was wondering about the tail on the scuba dude too, lol! Regardless of species, he's adorable and makes for a very fun card! TFS the lizard photos. We have loads of them in Florida and I'm very fond of them also.
First if all I love your card! It's adorable and funny! I think it's a monkey but I can totally see the baby or grandpa too! LOL. Anyway, it's a great design. :-). The little lizards you have there are awesome! We have black salamanders here but we don't see them too often. They are very shy and are good at hiding. Which is probably for the best as our dog would most likely try to eat them! ;-). Sorry, I haven't been by lately! I've been terrible about visiting all my favourite blogs. :-(. Bad me! Just know I see your awesome cards and love them!
Wonderfully fun birthday card! I like how quick and easy it looks. And your commentary has me giggling bright and early on a Monday. Great way to start the day. Your lizard photos brought me back to my childhood. We had lots o lizards around our house, too and one of my brothers really enjoyed finding and inspecting them. I am proud to say that I found all the ones before seeing the photo with the circle. Yes! My lizard spotting eye is pretty good! Ha, ha! Have a happy Monday and thanks for the fun post!:)
That is a fun card, and it reminds me of a monkey for some reason. I love that he's under water and wearing goggles! Too stinkin' cute! As for the lizzzzerds.........keep 'em in Cali please! I'm sure they mean no harm, but reptiles are not one of my favorite things :)
This is soooo fun and I didn't notice the tail to be honest!! and if I'm being honest at first wondered did she buy it or make it ??? is that a compliment not sure as I think handmade is soooo much better than shop bought but i did mean it as a compliment.... it is that good! x
Cute card and sure to bring a smile. And, thanks for sharing photos of your lizards. We have a few but not as abundant apparently as you do and they are much bigger. Years ago we had them in our basement but since we cemented it out we no longer see any.
Bonnie said...
I think this scuba guy might be a hairy tadpole! Maybe he's a CA variety of tadpoles and when they grow up to be frogs they have mohawks!?! That's hairdos not Indians.) I can't say I love the lizards. Ours are a bit bigger and one was in my studio a couple of weeks ago. My studio is upstairs so he evidently liked to climb. We chased that guy for over an hour and lost him. Found him in Pop's office across the hall. I constructed a barricade, put some shoes on and kept working. Pop named him Charlie and gave me nightmares about him keeping it as a pet. Quite late that night as I was about to drop off to sleep, Pop announced that he had Charlie! I opened the door and made sure he was really in that towel and gladly watched him skedaddle. We haven't seen him since. Hopefully he has moved well away from the door. End of lizard story. (And I'm not telling about all the squealing I did.)
It's hard to say what mammal your little swimmer is. All I know is that he's cute. I'm sure Sandie will be impressed with him...in a belly laugh sort of way. We, too, have lizards, hawks and eagles but my mate dislikes reptiles so I don't mention it to him. Suffice it to say, I love having them in the garden for a myriad reasons (because I think their cute, they eat nasty insects and the neighborhood kitty chases but never catches them, providing me with hours of entertainment). Not sure if they breed or not, but since they continue to be there, they must. Right????
so fun, I love that you have the bubbles going all the way off the card.
O, dear Darnell, what a funny and sweet and nice card you have created. :-) I like the diver with a monkey body and human face. :-) O sweet crafter freedom! Your yard is big enough also for lizards. :-)) Nice fellows. :-))
This is such a quirky card, but I am so confused by his monkey tail and his human head. It's a misfit if ever I saw it, but it is fun nonetheless. I love seeing your lizards. We don't have these much in the UK. We did have a common newt in the garden last year with a lovely orange spotty tummy, but sadly this year I found him squished on the pavement outside the house :( I hope he had a chance to reproduce like yours! Xx
What a fun little card - yes.. I didn't notice the tail first of all - maybe he is a monkey ??
Your little lizards are wonderful. I have loads of those here and some bigger spiny ones which are amazing. The cat bought one in last year. I found it clinging onto my lace curtains. She was about 9 inches long and I had the devil of a job trying to undo each claw from my lace !!!! Got her off eventually and sent her on her way. I have no idea how the cat managed to get such a spiny girl in her mouth - she definitely was prickling up MY fingers !!! I called her Linda Lizardi hahahaha :-D
Have a great day
Hi Darnell, I do love your lizards they look like our water dragons as we call them we also have penny lizards and geckos. I don't like the geckos, actaully I'll qualify that, the native geckos are fine, it's the Asian ones I can't stand they're so flipping noisy in the middle of a summer night. I have to sleep wiht the window shut, cant cope.
But worked something out this year. If you keep the lights away from your place of repose they won't click loudly outside that window, so use light in other side of house prior to bed, and our neighbours have them for serenade....
Or will not actually as their room isn't that side. :D
I keep thinking I must try this water colour card again soon and haven't done it....too many techniques to play with. Lovely cards, great CAS. Thank for for popping over too dear friend. Trust you're picking up ..must go back and catch up...:)
Thanks for the inspiration,
As to the lizards...cute, as long as they stay outside. And since they're not huge, I wouldn't be afraid of them. Did you see the four foot one on the side of the house on FB a while back? ICK!!! Hope you never have any of that size by you! Hope you're doing well, and jingle me when you can. xoxo Miss you!! Bev
Nothing like a googly-eyed scuba-dude, monkey-like creature to brighten my day! Too cute! As for your little lizards...not scary (big birds that prey on them: now those are scary!), but I'd be worried that I'd sit or step on them! How nice to have such a marvelous array of critters to share your yard with. Harmony with nature: love it! My brother, sister-in-law, the kiddos and my MOM (first time!) are at our place! We're a little crowded with an extra five people living in our 'postage stamp' home, but oh the fun we we're having...and they only arrived yesterday! The weather, of course, *has* to be cold and rainy, but that's okay: just an excuse to bring out the 'brellas and go for hikes (or whatever) anyway. Happy me being Aunty C!!
Hi Darnell
A scuba diving monkey eh? That's definitely something lurking from the 60s lol!
A fun card to raise a smile to anyone's face.
Make sure non of those little lizzies stow away in your luggage in July!
Have a great weekend.
This is such a fun card - is this a monkey disguised as a scuba diver or a scuba diver disguised as a monkey!
Love your card and of course, your sense of humor! I have those lizard-things all over my deck, too. That's also where I take my pictures. Many times I refuse to sit out there in fear one will come inside with me, stuck in my hair. (That actually happened!) I've seen them huff out a giant orange bubble. Have you seen that? It's a mating call, I believe.
Hope you see this one Darnell - I've just seen it and I absolutely love lizards myself so I think you really are lucky to have these little cuties in your garden. We have newts in our pond which are about the same size and look very similar to these but I just would love to see them popping along the fences etc. lol!!!
Hugs to you Soupie xxxxx
Oh that card made me laugh!! I LOVE the way you colored it in!!
I wish we had lizards!! Then maybe they would eat the dang bugs in my veggie garden that I get every year!! I only get one growth of cucumbers and zucchini because of the stupid cucumber beetles that I cannot seem to fend off every year. Alas, our climate is too cold for these critters to be in.
