Christmas and Springtime

Greetings!

It's happy weekend time! The hamsters are back and filled with unrequited creativity. I did my best to let them requite themselves. Whoa, wait a sec. The word "requite" was not underlined as misspelled by Mr. Blogger spellchecker, which surprised me because I thought I made it up. What? I'm off to ask Daniel Webster what it means ...

Okay, so those of you who thought it meant to be quite all over again, you would be wrong. It means: a) return (a favor); b) repay or reciprocate (a service or wrongdoing); and c) respond (to love or affection). Obviously, when Dan W. was thinking up the meanings of requite, he only had the use of words that began with the letter r! I wonder if that made him feel unrequited?

Turning now to the reason you stopped, my onefer:
This adorable little guy has cold ears, in spite of his stylish stocking cap with ear flaps. He is made by Stampendous. I watercolored him and his ornament bauble with Ziggies. I used some white paint and a stamp from SU to make the snowflakes. The sticker snowflake is from my stash and the gold-embossed ornament holder is a NBUS stamp from Avery Elle's "Merry & Bright."

The fishtail banner is a panel covered with a piece of Washi tape and then die cut. The consensus was to stop at that point and not add a sediment, but I think I will override the consensus and add one on the Washi banner. I know you can imagine it.

This card is in honor of the 200th challenge happening over at Merry Monday Christmas Challenge!! Congratulations to Lesley and her Team and all the wonderful Guest Designers! Cheers to the next 200! This challenge has inspired many a Christmas card in the Playhouse!

Here is the Inspiration Board we were given. I chose the top two squares.
~~~
My second card was sparked by the Muse: Christmas Visions challenge where my friend Chriss Blagrave is the Muse.
My pp is from SU, the NBUS sediment is from Stamping All Day, the holly die is from Penny Black. The label dies are also NBUS and I got them free with the We R Memory Keepers Genius cutting platform.
It's too hard to see in the photo, but I made three die cuts (in the pp, and using black and white snippets) in order to inlay the focus pocus label sediment into the pp. I did it that way so I could join in the Addicted to CAS challenge (inlaid dies), but I see that they have closed the linky door right in my slow-pokey face. On the other hand (thank you, Carol), I'm not too late to enter both of these cards in the Happy Little Stampers April Christmas Challenge, which is die cuts!
Here is Chriss's card to inspire YOU:
First of all, I love this classic design. I also and especially love that Chriss used her Christmas pp front and center, so I hopped right on that. I copied followed the rest of her design elements because, Shuckz, why mess with perfection?! I hope you get a chance to join in the fun!
I'm also racing over to Pixie's Snippets Playground before the gate closes. I seem to be making a bad habit of being a straggler there and I may have to sit on the naughty step. I hope one of the dearies slips me some hooch to warm my hackles.
And where does Springtime come into play today?
Well, spring is on display over at another fun blog: a photo blog challenge called Our Beautiful World. I couldn't decide which photo to use so I made a collage of everything on springtime display in our backyard right now.
~~~

I apologize that I have forgotten about my Giveaways page. I will resurrect that next time and continue with my New Friends Corner.

For now, Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy! LITS!*

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!

Hi Dolly. So weird to be the first to comment. I'm woefully behind on my commenting, so started at the more recent and there you were with two fantastic Christmas cards. :) Love that adorable snowman ... so cute as part of a bauble. Love the design and can imagine a sentiment on that sweet washi tape banner. :)

And great job CASEing Chriss's Christmas card with the patterned paper. Love the design and great job with the inlaid labels.

Thanks for your visit over at my blog. We did get to see Mama Mia in Vancouver last weekend. Had a fun time ... the music was so awesome. I'm still humming the tunes every day. :) Then out for a lovely seafood dinner. It was a wonderful day spent with hubby, Jer and Alex. :) Hope you and Mister are both doing well and feeling good. Lolly xx

ARE his ears cold? Or is he trying to drown out the sounds of the rehearsals of the Hamster Christmas Chorus? I think we should be told....
Both cards are gorgeous and your spring flowers look amazing - a far cry from an English spring

What a darling snowman he needs a pair of ear muffs. Gorgeous flowers on display in your yard. It is devastation in mine with the drought we are experiencing. They forecast late afternoon rain here today but at nearly 5pm the sun is still shining and it will be dark in another hour.

Hi Darnell, Loving the cards and the collage.

I think requite comes in books of the type Jane Austin wrote, as in requited love.

Hope you have a lovely weekend. Sue

Wonderful cards Darnell - I think the wee snowman is trying to keep his hat ton!

Loving your snippets card, a lovely design and clever to inlay the panels as you did.

And it's great to see you in the Snippets Playground!

Thanks for the info in requite... Never paid much attention to that word!
Definitely a cute snowman, and your watercolored ornament looks great... But wth is he doing with his ears? :-) Stampendous owes us answers!
Great xmas case.
Beautiful flowers in your yard! Yay!

Stunning cards as ever I think a sentiment rather than a sediment would work well on the fishtail! Your second card would fit in with the 52 Christmas card throwdown challenge that started today, Christmas foliage. Glad to heR you have the hamsters under control for once! Cara x

What a great pair of cards Darnell. Love that cute snowman with the funny smile on his face. I think he just heard one of your risque jokes and is covering his ears. You just forgot to add his blushing cheeks! Your second card is so stylish and would fit beautifully into the current Happy Little Stampers Christmas Challenge for die cuts too!

I'm glad the Hammies are back home.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Darnell - it's been a while since I stopped by (busy with house move) but I'm getting back into blogland. Your little snowman pulled me in with his cute expression. Cold ears indeed! :) And your MUSE card is just gorgeous - love holly! Love the spring photos too - looks like spring's finally arrived here in Northville! Yea!! Hugs, xxx

Hi Darnell, it's always a pleasure to stop by here, especially when your blog visitors are jumping into the conversation. Reading their contributions is just as much fun as reading your post that triggered their reactions. Thanks for reminding me of the 2 challenges that I wanted to play along with this wekend. I'd better use my crafty time wisely this weekend if I want to link up in time. I tend to be late, if not too late lol.
Hope your health issues are all under control. Things are definitely on the mend here, although DH's bowels may take a few more months to be fully back to normal, so we haven't been out for a meal yet and are not venturing too far or too long away from home.

Two gorgeous cards Darnell and your snowman looks great sat on that circular bauble and pretty painted snow in the background and perfect complementary turquoise embellishments too. Your Muse offering is a beautiful CASEing of Chriss's lovely card and I adore that pp and the inlaid embellished sentiment plate works beautifully. Congratulations for being one of the favourites last week too with another fabulous snowman. I wish my back yard looked as wonderful as yours but there is still the occasional frost at night here so no summer bedding yet - probably need to wait until towards the end of May. x

Awwwww...LOVE your sweet little snowman and his cold ears Darnell! He is just too cute and you water colored him just beautifully! And I think a sediment on the washi tape would look fantastic! Love your DSP Christmas card too...I have got SOOOO much DSP and really need to make a point of using it or get rid of it....nah, can't imagine getting rid of it, so I guess I better get using it! And I'm jealous of all the beautiful color in your backyard...Spring has just started this week in West Michigan and I am patiently (ok, not so patiently!!) waiting for my Daffodils to bloom! Maybe this weekend?!! Hope you and the Mister are both doing well. Take care my friend!! :0)

Do you find it as difficult as I do to come up with Christmas Cards when it's so beautiful outside? With absent mojo, I really struggled with Merry Monday this week, until yesterday when the wind was blowing with hurricane force. Yes, I exaggerate but that's how it felt while I was trying to dead head the roses and peonies. Anyway, saw that adorable snowman over at MM and fell in seriously like. So darn cute I want to pinch his cheeks but I'd probably come away with a drippy hand. Love both these cards (aren't you clever to use the patterned paper and a freebie die). Take care...be well.

pretty Christmas cards, so your are ready with christmas cards until december :-)
It's hard for me to make them now in springtime! Beautiful flower collection.

Oh, I love all 3 of your beautiful cards Darnell. I especially love that adorable snowman and I agree with the consensus that you should add a sentiment on the banner. TFS
Have a great weekend.

Your Christmas cards are so beautiful. I love the sweet little snowman image too. Thanks for inspiring me. I don't know if I will get my cards all done as I will have a lot of preparation to do for Christmas with all the company I will be having. I should have started on mine a long, long time ago. I may go simple this year in my card making.

It was fascinating learning about 'requite', I never knew that so thanks so much for sharing!

He is such a darling little snowman and your card is beautiful. I love the second card, I guess I just like traditional - it was a great CASE too!

The collage of the flowers/plants is so beautiful, our garden is just beginning to show signs of Spring but nowhere as much colour as you have!

Hugs, Annie xx

Oh my goodness, I am so loving your little snowman and the ornament! He is adorable and you have color him up and the ornament up so pretty too. Love your take on Chriss's card as well. The inlaid dies look fabulous and even more fabulous that they were a NBUS and free! I always love a little freebie. Loving the spring in your backyard, so gorgeous. We are looking very springy around here as well. No purty flowers from me though. I need to plant me some bulbs as I had a sweet hubby who would spray my flowers....and I don't always think it was by accident either. lol If there was a flower he didn't like, it disappeared! lol So back to the drawing board for me. Hugs, Brenda

Love that little snowman with his cold ears in spite of that sweet warm hat. He's so cute, and yes, I can imagine a sentiment on that washi tape banner. Love this color combination too. This card is a knockout. Love it. And I'm fully and totally in love with your CASE of Chriss' card. Your inlaid dies against that dp is gorgeous, and I LOVE those holly and its berries. Darn wonderful card. Thanks for your sweet words too, on my blog. You always say the nicest things. And speaking of a couple of winners..... these most definitely are! Miss you like crazy. Bev

Cute little snowman - I'm not sure if he's covering his ears because of the cold or maybe just doesn't want to hear the sound of more snow and cold weather on the way. No matter though, because he's a cutie - and I love your card. In fact, love both of them!

Your back yard looks amazing. I usually grow my own veg but have not been inspired to this year. Decided I want flowers but at the moment it is a mess...our backyard is a tiny terrace, you don't get much outdoor space in a London flat, if any! Love the Xmas cards, great watercolouring and fun to see the DSP. Have a fun week ahead and take care xx

Love the washi tape banner and adore the sweet little snowman. I'm guessing that he is a Canadian snowman and knows the quite often a toque alone WILL NOT keep his ears warm! Awesome 'painted' snowflakes and cool snowflake sticker!

ADORE your second card! The paper is divine, but it's your perfect blend of the sentiment, the layered label die and the holly berry collection that rocks this card!

Your springtime display is gorgeous! Can hardly wait to start planting my summer plant pots!

I'm drooling over your excellent zig skills, cause this little Snowy's hat just is perfect. A really cute little fella, and I liked the tiny paint snowflakes too, with the turquoise background. Had fun with the requited stuff. You better watchit if those Hamsters start requiting...just in case you don't awready know that! Loved the washi fishtail, and I think it will be fine, with or without a sentiment. Ask Hammy...he will know. Also loving the dp on the holly tag. And of course I love the bold colored holly die trim. Great way to showcase this pretty die, and you've colored it pretty too. (think I have this one). Happy upcoming week, and I expect you're busy with all kinds of plans, and travel. So have fun! Big hugs & TFS

I should be doing this challenge in that I have a plethora of both Christmas paper and stamps that I rarely use. I always love everyones creations, buy the stuff and then it sits there.
