Annual Anniversary Toast Post!

Hello and Happy Weekend!

As we gather together today, let us raise our glasses in celebration of 45 years of wedded bliss between me and the Mister! (Remember, on the planet Zardoff where we were wed, the common age of nuptials is minusten. I know it's shocking to you Earthlings, but the air is thinner there.)

I made Himself this lovey-dovey card:
and the inside:

I used the pretty blue mat because it sorta matches the color of the handmade royal blue crushed velvet dresses I handmade for my two bridesmaids. Hey, don't judge, "Romeo and Juliet" was a hit movie back then!

I used my NBUS Papertrey Ink "Phrase Play #5" happy die. You might wonder why I didn't glue down the letters, but IRL, they bow out from the circle in a lovely way. The blue mat is impressed with a PTI linen impression plate. The chipboard heart embellie is from my VD stash and the photo insert is a copy of our actual wedding album photo of the bouquet and rings. For fun, I placed a little "diamond" gem over the engagement ring in the photo.

On the inside, the NBUS sediment is from STAMPlorations (I think) and the corner image is from Inkadinkado.

Speaking of diamonds, have I told you the story of my engagement ring? I thought I had, but I'm not finding it in my old posts. I do know I've shown you this photo of 21 year-old Mister Kevin when I first met him:
You're welcome. We met on September 5, 1969. On my birthday, July 2, 1970, we became engaged. In order to pay for my engagement ring, the Mister sold that beloved motorcycle. Oh, you didn't notice there was a motorcycle in the photo?

Years went by as years do and the prodigal grew up and went out on his own, so the Mister resumed his beloved hobby of motorcycling in 2003.
Still lookin' good, hmm, ladies? So then what happened was, a week after that photo was taken, we were pruning and doing spring cleaning around the yard. During one trip to the recycle bin, I looked down and noticed the diamond was missing from my engagement ring! For a second I was upset, but then the irony of the whole situation made me laugh.

When the Mister came around the corner with his armload of garden clippings, I held out my hand to show him. His eyes widened in horror and then confusion as I started giggling.

"What ... ?" he asked.

"Don't you get it?" I said. "When we got engaged, you sold your motorcycle to pay for my diamond! Last week you finally got another motorcycle and now I've lost my diamond! Apparently, we are only allowed to have one or the other!"

Well, that was 13 years ago. This year, along with a beautiful handmade card, the Mister got me a new diamond ring ~ which I promise I'll remove when I'm gardening! He did good and I think I'll keep him!

But that's not all!

Congratulations on your Anniversary - a good marriage is even more precious than a diamond, not that I would turn a diamond down if DH were to give me another after nearly 42 years.
So glad I found your blog and another congrats on your 4th year of entertaining us with your delightful humour
I do hope you have let Hammy join in the celebrations, and don't let him choke on the diamond, should he find the one in the garden.
Blessings
Maxine

I also want to wish you a happy anniversary for your blog. You have done so much to bring all of us bloggers together. I think of you like Oprah and Cher. When someone says Darnell we all know who they are talking about! Keep up the great work with your blog and the happy years with hubby. Wow! How did you ever catch that stud? Think he's definitely a keeper even without the new diamond ring...it does sweeten the tea, though. You're right, hardly noticed the motorcycle in the photo and I love motorcycles.
Think your card to him is genius. Using the wedding photo was truly brilliant. (Blue crushed velvet, Shakespeare must have been happy. Handmade by your own delicate paws. Wow...again! No judgement intended as mine were yellow dotted swiss with giant dots, yuk! Also handmade, but by my mother.)
Clearly, this is your month. Anniversaries abound. Many congratulations to you both for your years together and beyond, plus a big WOOT for 4 years of this wonderful blog of yours.

Mega congratulations on your new diamond.....I mean your wedding anniversary (and if the Mr still has that 6 pack, I congratulate you again).
The pair of you don't look anywhere near old enough to be married 45 years. Is that the same planet as Cocoon?
Felicitations on your blogaversary too. I can always guarantee a smile when I read your stories.
Here's to many more blog years and with the Mr too.
With all good wishes.

Well Dippy, looks like I'm going to be the 100th devotee to comment on your gorgeous card you made for Kevin to celebrate your 45th wedding anniversary. I find I can write this now my heart has stopped beating fit to burst at that photo - wow, no wonder you snapped him up; he's absolutely gorgeous! Had to laugh with you at the ridiculous situation of your engagement ring and his motorbike. So glad that he's bought you a replacement although I'm sure your original one has a very big piece of your heart.

Love & hugs.

Awesome card - such a cool idea to use the actual photo! GREAT idea adding some faux bling to the ring in the photo!

Congratulations on 45 years! I love the either a diamond or a motorcycle story and, after 45 years, it is time to have both :)

The card is so lovely & personalized - the "happy" is happier being allowed to move a bit. Thanks so much for playing along with us at the CASology challenge this week!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you and your handsome Mister (and yes, that photo is incredibly distracting; I certainly see how the motorcycle caught your eye..bwahhahahahaha. Your hubby is a looker, that's for sure!)! Your card is milestone anniversary perfect and how sweet was Kevin to sell his bike to buy your an engagement ring. True love! And now, a new diamond ring adorns your hand! WOW! I know we'd all love to see it AND the handmade card he designed for you. Pretty please? Congratulations, too, on your 4th blog birthaversary. Your sweet comments about our visits and comments, I'm reflecting back to you! You've made quite the positive impression on so many of us, with your entertaining posts, outstanding creativity, encouraging comments and all-around friendship. Truly, I don't think I could have made it through losing my dad as "well" as I did, without you by my side! For that, I am eternally grateful! Wishing you many more anniversaries of all kinds...and many years of all of us being together! Hugs, love and MWAH to you!

Happy Anniversary to you two! I love the diamond story. My daughter lost the diamond from her ring and then a few days later a glint caught her eye as she was getting into the car and there was the diamond on the floor between the seat and the door. Love your card and the hands almost brought tears to my eyes. I am having bracelet beads (Pandora-like) made for some of the girls in the family with Mom and Dad's hands on them. Unfortunately the post office has lost or torn the package and I haven't gotten them. Hopefully the company will remake them for me at no cost.

BIG (belated) Congratulations on your 45th Anniversary, Darnell! Wish you and Mister all the happiness, love and health that you can handle, and hope that you celebrate this day for many, many years to come. As you know I'm from a planet near Zardoff - Fryptol - but my spaceship is approaching Zardoff fast... my Anniversary may seem a bit distante from yours, just because we get married much later in Fryptol.
Love that you added a heart shaped photo to your lovely card, and the greeting inside is just too sweet.
Congratulations on your fourth blog birthaversary!
P.S. - My Mister is a motorcycle lover just like your Mister. I told him your story and his eyes widened in horror and confusion too... really don't know why :).

My Mom made my wedding dress and my one bridesmaids skirt and blouse and guess who it was? YES!! LINDA!! We have been besties for almost 59 years!! She was my matron of honor and I was one of her bridesmaids! Your picture sure brings back those wonderful memories...I remember sewing shirts for BIL for a Christmas gift!! Oh yes, we knew how to save, didn't we? Congratulations on your anniversary and so glad to hear that the Mister is getting better every day! Heart Hugs, my friend!!

Mister - so lovely - and I'm sure your bridesmaids looked stunning in the blue dresses (and you made it yourself ...I'm IMPRESSED!!!!)
