WOYWW 278 for October

Hi there!

Welcome to October. Like I say every month, don't look at me. I don't understand how it happens either.

I haven't been able to participate every week in the super fun What's On Your Workdesk? Wednesday (WOYWW) blog hop this year, but I had hoped to play at least once a month. Typing this just now I am horrified to see that I totally missed September! It's ridic how fast time is slipping away. I heard a weird noise this morning and looked up just in time to see the hands on my clock spinning so fast they flew right off the face of the thing!

The last time some of you Deskers were here, my desk was clean as a whistle. Which is one simile that I've never understood because, if you think about it, whistles are pretty filthy with all that spit and salvia blowing through them.

Well, it turns out it doesn't make any sense because the original phrase was CLEAR as a whistle. And, yet again, we have another plexame of how typos can alter the course of conversation forever. Be careful with those ginfers, people, and if that brings a simile to your face, I'm glad.

Today that sparkly desk is nowhere to be found as I've been on a card-making binge the last few days:
Except for Helen, we know it's a mess when our crap spreads out to the point where we have to get down on the floor to use our Big Shots and paper cutters!

One of my sweet bloggie friends got such a kick out of my desk drawer full of American chocolate kisses that she sent me some proper British chocolate so, as she said, I would know what really delicious chocolate tastes like! Thank you, Claire, for the yummy gift and the pretty card!
And in other news, I had to share all the excitement of this wet deck:
Why the excitement? Because here in California we are in the middle of a nasty drought. We only got a whistle's worth of moisture, but, oh, the smell and the freshness was so welcome, even if just for a minuet!
Enjoy the hop! Thank you, Julia!! Have a choccie!

A Bloggie Break

I'm going to be away for much of October. For one thing, I have a two-week vacation planned to middle America where I will be cavorting with my sisters and friends. I'm hoping to get some posts done and scheduled before I leave so I can post some photos I've been wanting to share and I may throw in a card or two. With the NBUS Challenge, there just hasn't been space on the pages.

I also want to continue introducing my new followers in my New Friends Corner. Even though I'm away, I hope you will come by when I post and then pop over to introduce yourselves to our new friends who have been patiently waiting to meet you. Thank you!

~~~
Enjoy your day and every day while I'm away! No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS!*
As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment and/or join as a follower! Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!
Yep, you desk does look busy - and the floor! I will miss you during October but I do hope you have a wonderful trip and enjoy yourselves (well of course you will!).
So pleased to hear that you got a little bit of rain, I can only imagine how dry it must be. Anyway, have safe journeys and have lots of fun! Lots of love and Big hugs, Annie xx
Oooh nice busy desk there and how nice to be in California with a smidge of rain! One of my favourite places to be. Glad you like the British chocolate - I only live a few miles away from the Cadbury factory and go there quite often. Sunshine Girl #6
I do love your craft room.
We had rain the other day and my dad was pleased, as the garden needed it.
Hope you have a happy WOYWW. Sue #36
Now I'm not a fan of Cadbury's chocolate (far too sweet for my liking, I'm a dark chocolate kinda girl), but compared to what one can find on your side of the pond, I have to agree, that is *proper* chocolate. Enjoy! :-)
Maybe crafting desks are like children? "A messy desk is a happy desk"? Mine would be over the moon!
Enjoy your cavorting Darnell, you shall be missed! x
Hi Darnell,
Firstly thanks for visiting was great for you to drop in and say hi. I love the sight of your desk so full of activity and the mess of playing fun, creating up a storm and a storm you did, it rained woo hoo. Spit in the whistle makes me want to puke, gross stuff thinking about it. Anyway I am planning on a trip soon, might even head your way, you never know, if not before Christmas it will be January.
Hugs Eliza, Yoda & Flat Susan
Yes, the smell of wet earth after a long period of dry is just gorgeous! Glad you have had a little rain - trust you get some more - not torrential, just nice soft rain!!!
You have no idea how reassuring your pictures were today, Darnell. I thought I must be the only one who works with desk drawers left open to catch the unwary, with things all over the floor, and keep having to move things to do the "next stage"! Thank you!!! I, too have been having a card fest over the past few weeks - 170 Christmas cards made so far - 140 of which have been given away - so now "just" have my own to do!
Have a wonderful time away - and we look forward to seeing you when you get back.
Take care. God bless.
Hmm, only when you have cleaned out a brass instrument can you understand how wrong 'clean as a whistle' is - it's not a sight for the faint hearted! I have to put my tuba in the bath and leave it soak for an hour and then I put the pressure steamer nozzle up his tubes (!!) and give him a good blast out. Nothing to do with craft, but just sharing some info :-)
Have a good holiday - come back refreshed and raring to go!
Hugs, LLJ 30 xx
Hi Darnell, love your craft space. Really hoped you enjoyed our British chocolate! The 'clean'vs'clear' as a whistle reminded me of another mutilated saying, which always drives me nuts. The original one was ' See a pin and pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck'. Obviously because all those years ago, pins were made from silver, so it was indeed a lucky find. Nowadays, I hear people saying 'See a PENNY, pick it up, etc'- irritates the life out of me, lol. . Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #43 xxx
Hi Darnell Happy WOYWW.....oh you messy lady, just makes me chuckle because that not an uncommon sight in my room too...drawers all open and stamp folders no bench space and then you have to tiptoe through the floor overflow.. SO just you have a wonderful holiday, take some relax time too- you honestly run a fabulous blog. Cheers see you around soon, RobynO#40
I'm so glad that I'm not the only one that has stuff on the floor, drawers open, and every available surface covered when making a card or two! Hope you have a really good holiday!
It seems as though we all leave drawers open and use the floor as an extension to our work desks, it certainly happens here and I thought I was the only one.
Have a fabulous break with your family and friends.
Hi Darnell
Was the whistles worth of moisture you had the spit from your clean whistle? Here in the UK there's a saying about laughing like a drain. . . . How many laughing drains do you know?
Its bad when you need to spread to the floor for crafting but I do like the idea of a chocolate drawer (I'm a Galaxy rather than Cadbury girl but any will do in a pinch) even with Hershey Kisses but I am partial to a Butterfingers bar. . . . . or two lol!
Have a great break away.
I would gladly come and clean tomorrow for some chocolate today!
I am so jealous of the precipitation you got. All we got was the promising smell of damp air! But I am glad CA is getting rain SOMEWHERE!
I find my Oct. calendar is looking very busy too, lots of events and weekend trips planned. We won't even be home for Halloween, so I'll miss the GDs in costume this year.
Hope you have a great trip, look forward to pictures when you get back.
You know, I keep telling non-crafty friends that this hobby (? for want of a better word) is not for the sqeamish neat freak. I'll put my messy-nest up against yours any day. Hah! Wasn't that lovely rain...well, lovely. Made a huge difference to my lackomojoitis. I even got a card or two made. Enjoy, enjoy your time away...have a cocktail (maybe two) on me.
Wow ... you have been busy. How come we have these fabulous work spaces with large areas to work on, but it's never enough??!! :) I have resorted to using the floor too, you are not alone! :)
How lucky are you to have a delicious (and incredibly large) chocolate bar in your desk drawer ... your have a sweet, sweet friend (pardon the pun!). :)
The rain is something to celebrate this year ... we have had almost none all summer, but have had a few rain storms over the past couple of weeks. The rain really does make everything fresh and new again ... hope you have lots more soon. Lolly xx
Hi Lovely Lady
You have put a smile back on my face. Yes, I heard about the lack of rain. My friend was reading an email from me where I was saying it was cold (on her birthday 8th Sept) and she was saying how lucky we were when suddenly she heard the patter of rain on her roof. Maybe I should send you an email.
Enjoy the vacation, enjoy the Cadbury's chocolate and just enjoy yourself in whatever and everything you do.
At least you chose a flat surface to put your paper trimmer on...I once had no room on either desk and was in a "mad rush" of creativity, and balanced the trimmer while I cut my cardstock. I don't recommend it; cut that silly thing crooked and had to start over.
P.S. Last night, I dropped an alphabet I had just finished cutting into my tool basket. When I reached in to get it, out popped my super sharp scissors, and they went thwack into the hardwood floor straight up. I had to pull on the handle hard to get it unstuck from the floor. Glad it wasn't my foot.
Hey, enjoy your vacation. Sounds super fun!
Very happy to hear about the rain you received, wishing you more raindrops. We are in the same boat here in Austin. The lake that our drinking water comes from (Lake Travis) is down over fifty feet. We did get a bunch a little more than a week ago, 8", but we are in desperate need.
Darnell, are you Northern California or Southern? I did not realize you were California girl too! I had to laugh when I saw your work space. I looked around at mine with drawers hanging open (I thought I was the only one who did that)and my dies on the floor, (in the containers, but still.....) I guess we all create pretty much the same...the cleaning up part is the least amount of fun! I hope you have a wonderful vaca this month! Have toooo much fun...
So glad to see that other people's workplaces are sometimes almost as untidy as mine used to be all the time!!! Yes, I have sorted out my crafting space and for a change I know exactly where everything is!! And it's a case of 5 minutes to pack everything away neatly and 5 minutes to have everything ready to start crafting!!! What a pleasure to have a neat crafting space now!!
So glad that you had some rain, Darnell!!! Oh, the smell of rain is just wonderful, hey, specially during a time of drought. Hope you will get some more!!!
Have a lovely holiday with your sisters and friends, Darnell!!!
Oh, and I think they say a messy desk is the sign of a creative mind. I use the kitchen table and it resembles yours pretty much and yes, I have drawers open here and there wherever I can stash my suppklies...the utility room, the kitchen and the living room. No craft room for me, so I do the best I can with what I have.
We are going away in four weeks for 7 days and I won't have any crafting gear with me (or access to my blog etc) so will be rather strange but so nice to spend lots of time with the kids. Everytime I go in to clean my room, I start finding things that were missing, etc...next thing you know, instead of cleaning...I'm playing.
Rain, I remember in our trip to california. 7 years ago...when we stopped at a gas station the guy there was doing a happy dance, because it was raining. (Or maybe it was a rain dance?)
Shoshi said...
Lol Darnell and thanks for your fabby comment!!! My goodness if we couldn't laugh I think we'd all go crazy.
I must say I'd never thought of submitting any of my drawings to be turned into stamps. I wouldn't know how to go about such a thing! I was rather pleased with my little houses though. I have some other drawings in mind which might also fit the bill.
So glad you like my various projects!
Thought I was starting to feel better but another bad day today... At least I managed to wash my manky hair and get a meal on the table but apart from that it's been recliner time again. The result of my test says I'm still anaemic so back on the iron again... I'll be magnetic after all this.
Meant to say in my previous post that I simply adore CDM (Cadbury's Dairy Milk). A lot of British people are getting rather snobby about chocolate these days and don't think much of Cadbury's because it doesn't have enough cocoa solids, but I have to disagree - I love the taste and how it melts in the mouth. I don't like Galaxy much, though.
Hope you are having a nice weekend.
I laugh in glee to know I'm not alone in the messy desk area! I clean it and sometime between it being clean something or someone comes in and messes everything up while I'm out. Can you imagine?! Yea, why does creating make such a mess? Why do those clock hands fly around the clock so fast that they fly right off the face of the clock? sigh, Answers no one knows. Don't you just love the smell of fresh rain, especially if you haven't had rain in a long time! I'm glad you got a little rain, but I'm sure it wasn't near enough. I've been hearing how bad the drought it in CA and TX. It's sad. We have had mini droughts that last a month or two and then we will get some rain. Now that fall is here and my farmers is trying to harvest, the rains come. Go figure! lol Enjoy your get-a-away with family and friends!!! Safe travels and hugs, Brenda
Looks like you have been making lots of wonderful creations. Wish it was me...I am in a lost mojo place at the mo!
We are moving about 1 1/2 blocks from the grandkids...I can walk doewn to their house to babysit and take them to school.
DH struggles in the am...especially if it is early. IT is a side effect of the Metformin he takes for diabetes.
So now he can sleep in a bit longer and we can pick him up as we walk past our new house on the way to school. We just walk up the hill and go around the corner and two houses later...we are at mine! Yay.
