Poinsettias and Friends ~ DJKASE #15 and #16

Good Day!

Here we are whooshed around to another Fri-YAY! This is an extra long post coz I've got one booboo and two Friday DJKASEs for you today that fit into several challenges.

First up, I am delighted to be copylimenting my bloggie friend and amazing card artist Kim M. of Art Keeps Me Sane. Kim has been blogging since July 2012. She is oft published and has won many awards! I think she can best introduce herself:
I'm a SAHM just trying to stay sane by any means possible. I will pretty much try anything crafty. I have a B.A. In Fine Arts and specialized in painting. I have tried my hand at many types of arts and crafts like, stained glass, lithography, scrapbooking, rubber stamping, cake decorating, and much more. There are a lot of things I still want to try. I would have to say that my two favourites are card making and painting.
A long time ago, Kim used a poinsettia image on a  beautiful card and when I commented on how much I loved it, she generously stamped off several images and sent them to me.  (Another example of this kind and caring stamping community we blog in!) I have used some of the images on cards and even posted one, but I have not DJKASEd one of Kim's cards until now. Today is the day for that!

Here is the gorgeous card of Kim's that I've selected to DJKASE. She posted this card on July 28, 2013.
Kim's card
And here is my DJKASE #15 of Kim's card:
Darnell's card

***

ETA: Kim has written to let me know the poinsettia image is a
Jumbo stamp set by Stampendous.
They still sell it on their site.  Here's the link

***

I have to share with you what happened while I was making Kim's DJKASE. The card was completed, adhered, and wrapped in a bow. The only thing left to do was apply some red liquid pearl drops to the center of the poinsettia. That's when I found out that Hammy had been playing with the two-tiered lazy Susan I have for storing my liquid pearls and my reinkers.

Since the bottles are the same size and they look very similar when they are upside down, I make sure they aren't mixed up on the tiers.

So, okay, it was getting late and my focus button is out of order (see below), so I reached for the red liquid pearls and turned it over and applied a drop ...oh, no, he dinnut! Oh, yes, he did! Here is what happened to my beautiful card:

It was a lucky* thing that I had another stamped off image of the ones Kim had sent me because I don't own that stamp and I needed to cover up the booboo. Apparently, even after all these years, I'm still too dumb to finish my card front completely before I put the card together! Phew! Another save for the team! And a hamster who is having a loooong timeout on his Naughty Boy Chair!!

====================================================================================

I'm also thrilled to be copylimenting another bloggie friend and outstanding card artist, Barb of  Barb's Studio Creations. After being a well-loved cheerleader for others in Blogland for a couple of years, Barb finally started her own blog in October of last year. We were all happy to see her take that step on her own. Her blog is fantastic and her card art is divine!

Here is Barb's pretty poinsettia card which she posted on November 10, 2013:
Barb's card
And here is my DJKASE of Barb's card:

Darnell's card

You will be doing yourself a favor to visit and follow these two lovely ladies who will provide you with unlimited inspiration!! Thank you, Kim and Barb, for following me and for all your wonderful comments of praise and encouragement! I hope you are both pleased with my DJKASE tributes!!

~~~
Challenges:
That's a lot of fun challenges! There were even more I found, but enough is enough!! Since there are two cards, it takes up a lot of room to show you the challenge logos, so I'm skipping them today. Please click on the links to the sites where you will find all the details on rules, sponsors, and prizes. I hope to see you in the galleries!
*******
I would also like to remind all of you that Mr. Linky is still open for a couple more days here on my blog, if you would like to add a birthday card for Anita's surprise party. I'd love to see more cards in the gallery!
Bad News, Good News
The Mister and I were feeling a little punky earlier in the week. He was sneezing his head off, which was really unfortunate because he put his back out on Sunday. Nothing worse than sneezing when you have back pain! We just thought it was the beginning of his annual spring grass allergies. NOT. It turned out to be a cold.
On Thursday I woke up with the nasty thing (meaning the cold, not the Mister) and it has knocked me off my cankles. I'm sad I had to miss a wonderful milestone birthday luncheon for one of my friends. I feel like I'm walking under water and I'm not that speedy when I feel good! This post took me two days to write, for goodness sake, so please forgive me if I am tardy getting around to visit and chat with you.
The good news is that we have the granddog Duke for a couple of weeks and having him around makes us feel better! Mwah!
~~~

Enjoy your day! No, seriously, enjoy.  LITS!**

As always, thank you for coming by to visit the Playhouse and special thanks to you if you take the time to leave a comment and /or join as a follower!

Please let me know you came by, so I can be sure and return the flavor!

Oh Darnell, I hope you feel better soon! That nasty cold visited my house a week or so ago and it was NOT welcome. He's taken his leave of us but didn't mention he was stopping by at your house or I would have warned you. :-(. Thank you soooo much for the kind words and the fabulous case of my card! Your card turned out lovely! Both cards did! You have used your poinsettias well. :-). If you ever want more or another image I have let me know! Hugs!

Wow, the cards you chose to CASE are gorgeous and you did a fantastic job of CASEING. Grabbing the wrong thing would be easy with them right next to each other and with copycat bottoms! It's not nice to fool you. The card came out perfect though. Hope you're feeling better by now and hubby too. Cuddle on the couch with the granddog and rest up.

Mrs Harry said...

What fabulous cards Darnell. I hope you and the Mister drink lots of hot toddies and feel better really soon.

I love Kim's card, and your DJKASEing is beautiful too. I did a very similar thing the other day and the air was definitely a little blue! Barb's card is very pretty too and yet another wonderful DJKASEing. That is a gorgeous Poinsettia and a lovely sized bloom. Sorry to hear that you are not feeling so well at the moment Darnell, and that DH has problems also. Hope you are both returned to full health shortly. x

You did a great job DJKASEING both cards, boo boo and all. Too bad you couldn't have spread the reinker around and made a dark center in that poinsettia. The vellum one is gorgeous.

Two beauties Darnell - even when created through the haze of a cold - you've still got it girl! Haven't we ALL made a whoops at the very last minute on a card - mine is usually dropping an inked stamp as I finish up by stamping the sentiment inside the card - (so THAT's why so many of my cards have extra panels on the inside?!)

hope you are feeling better soon!

Cornelia W said...

Great cards - as always, Darnell! I especially love the vellum Poinsettia - swoon!

Darnell, you are such a lovely bloggy friend to pop over and tell me about my mention at OLS and I was delighted to see that you had also been showcased with a real stunner of a card!

While I'm here I've had fun looking around the Playhouse and how lovely these two CASEs are! Much amused at the mix up with the liquid pearls and the reinker - did van Gogh have this trouble?! (don't know why I suddenly thought of him...) Sorry to hear you and the Mister aren't feeling 100% but feel sure the Duke will soon have you both on the mend - he's adorable! Vicky x

Aww, sorry to hear you're both unwell Darnell, at least you got it together and can be miserable together! Beautiful cards too, and I do a lot of glittering or liquid pearling after everything is finished too. I tired of turning my topper over to put glue on the back, and turning it over again to stick to my card only to find that the Stickles or whatever wasn't quite dry and has smudged everywhere! Anyway, if you check your front porch there might be something there already to cheer you up! Maybe, just sayin'!

Hugs to Duke

Oooh Darnell I love the poinsettias - especially the translucent one! So stylish. It's a beautiful flower, isn't it, and you've more than done the stamp justice.

Sorry to hear you and the Mister have both had the cold - I had a throat infection at the end of Feb. and am still coughing, although not so much now, thank goodness - quite exhausting. Hope you are better soon.

thanks for your visit and your lovely comment - very nice to hear from you again! I haven't been on WOYWW every week but try and get there when I can. I'm so glad you like my Zentangle teabag stain art - love your suggestions and have already decided to do just that. They are fun to do but you do need a magnifier if your eyes aren't going to go squiffy!

Have a great weekend.

Love your cards and those you DJKased - especially that dreamy vellum poinsettia.
I can go relate to the bottle mixup - I had Glossy Accents and Alcohol Blending Solution on my table and reached for the Glossy Accents and instead of a little dab of glue coming out I poured alcohol blending solution all over my alcohol inked and collage stamped background. I did my best to cover the worst bits with embellishments but I've learned my lesson - don't have the two on the desk at the same time !!!

Kim's card is gorgeous and you done did it proud. I can see why you wanted to copyliment it. And such a naughty Hammy! Also, I mistook reinker for eye drops once. I saw it coming so I only managed to get it on my face, but yeah..... DON'T make that mistake. I love poinsettias on vellum so the second card is a big winner too! Woot!

Hope you are all better now! I'm over the cold but it went into my lungs and I'm asthmatic so I probably have few more days of hacking, wheezing, and sucking on the "peace pipe." I feel so much better! Now if I could only catch my breath!

Hi, Darnell!!
I've been away from Blogland for a full two weeks spending all my spare time knitting and crocheting and falling behind on blogvisits terribly!! I'm busy catching up on what I've missed out on, so I'll be visiting all 11 posts you have done while I've been 'away'!! Can't wait to see what you have been busy with!!
I'm sure that by this time you and hubby are both better and hopefully feeling 100%!
Both the DJKASE cards of you are beautiful!! Enjoying working with vellum so much lately myself, I really like your vellum poinsettia!! And oops for the booboo - terrible when that happens, hey!! Lovely cards!!

Kim S said...

I know that its been a month since you posted this - but I do hope your cold is better. I'm entering my third week of coughing and I have friends telling me that their crud is lasting five weeks...yuk!

I've made a lot of mistakes on my cards, but I don't think I've ever mixed up a reinker and liquid pearls. But they are the definitely the same size and shape, aren't they? I can't imagine how you felt when one of your special "limited-edition" images was ruined.

I absolutely love your use of vellum with the poinsettia. It is such a delicate look and beautiful look!
